  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) If Flowers is major league average offensively at catcher and Abreu's MVP caliber (like Quentin in 2008), then they're not so far away. But yeah, the bullpen and the back of the rotation aren't fixable in one off-season or in the middle of a season. And, despite yesterday's anomaly, the schedule for the next month will probably illuminate the true nature of this team's talent. Flowers' hot start might make him ML average this year if he doesn't completely tank the rest of the year. ZiPS has him projected at a .326 wOBA for the year with a .309 wOBA the rest of the way. That's perfectly acceptable for a catcher.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Not saying someone like Santana/Jimenez, but someone they could hopefully rely on to give them innings if needed. Steve Stone is already concerned about getting enough innings from the rotatio I personally think Rienzo can be an innings eater. He might not be good (4.5-5 ERA), but he can probably go 5-6 innings for you and not make you pull your hair out.
  3. I'm liking the patience from Garcia. See more pitches = better pitches to hit = better hitting. Garcia's patience of late has translated well to results with the bat.
  4. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) Johnson and Paulino are going to make alot of games difficult to win with the way they've been pitching What's even better is that they're starting in between our best starters. So this team will never actually get on a winning streak. Just hover around .500.
  5. Abreu with another hit. If you're a pitcher, you really can't give Abreu anything to hit on the outer third of the plate. Once he gets those arms extended, forget about it.
  6. Erik Johnson just hasn't looked good at all so far this year.
  7. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) Wow, he's gonna take a beating on this one. From the comments section on Hardball Talk: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/04/...iced-this-year/ I'd like to add people who whistle when nobody else is around to the indicators of mental illness. Hope that ain't the case with Frank. Frank did play football back in the day.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) Pee in a cup. All of you. It must be awesome to hit in this thin air every day.
  9. Now we're just teeing off.
  10. What a game by Avi.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) I think the Chauncey for Iverson trade was the first signal. I think that screwed them more than taking Darko.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) Who else do you want batting 4th? I'm not saying we have better options. I'm just saying our options aren't very good.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) Well he's been hitting well... I know. The thought of Conor Gillaspie hitting clean-up isn't a good one though.
  14. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) Per BaseballPress.com 1. Eaton CF 2. Semien 2b 3. Abreu 1b 4. Gillaspie 3b 5. A. Garcia RF 6. De Aza LF 7. Ramirez SS 8. Flowers C 9. Paulino P *barf
  15. QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) Any chance they look at him for the pen? Could really use him as a long man. Or does he go to Charlotte to be the first man up should an injury happen? Unless Hanson completely alters his delivery (I think he tried to adjust it with Atlanta and it didn't do him any good), he's not going to stay healthy. He should probably be used in the bullpen if you want any real productivity out of him.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) He's the poster boy as to why you shouldn't throw 25% sliders. Take note, Chris Sale. (of course, Randy Johnson averaged 38.6% from 02-09) Eh, Hanson's issues are with his shoulder. Sliders usually lead to elbow issues. Hanson has a pretty bad timing problem in his delivery, which is why he's had shoulder issues. http://www.chrisoleary.com/projects/Pitchi...ommyHanson.html
  17. Ronnie Brewer's back.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 08:18 AM) That's the worst FG Community article I've read So. much. statistical. analysis.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 10:39 PM) What's the difference between losing to Miami in the second round or third round? Either way they're gonna get smoked. I'd rather watch the Bulls possibly win two series as opposed to one? It's a pipe dream for the Bulls to beat the Heat more than once or twice, but that doesn't mean we should all just slit our wrists and commit suicide on the season.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 11:20 PM) They're not seeding based on what they think is going to happen, they're seeding on what has happened. Kentucky's regular season was extremely average and they absolutely belonged where they got seeded. I feel as if the seeding has way too much correlation to RPI, which has its flaws (way too much emphasis on SOS). Louisville was ranked highly via BPI, coaches pools, etc., but they were ranked #19 in RPI. There's no other reason why they were a #4 seed. Kentucky was #12 in BPI, #17 in Kenpom (UConn was #25). I think that the methods the committee uses are too old fashioned and not descriptive enough.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 11:11 PM) Given what they did in the regular season, they didn't deserve that much higher of a seed. They still needed late second magic to beat four of the best teams in the tourney. It's not about seeding, it's about momentum and luck. They also have a ton of talent.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 10:43 PM) You clearly don't understand the concept of seeding. Then please educate me on it. This national championship is the lowest combined seeding since the bracket started in 1979. I realize the selection committee can only have so much to go off of, but having a #7 and #8 in the final means they probably didn't do the best evaluation of the field.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 10:34 PM) Really? I felt Kentucky was given a bad seed at the beginning. They gave UMass a #6 seed in that region.
  24. What a great job by the selection committee. A #7 and a #8 seed in the national championship. That said, this Kentucky team is a lot of fun to watch and I hope they win it on Monday.
  25. Wow. Harrison with a clutch 3.
