Why do we open in Cleveland?
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) God I hope it's not snowed out. I am driving 200 miles home from school just to watch my team on TV on opening day! I will be very pissed off if I wasted $65 in gas and 6 hours of driving for nothing! Ummm...MLB.tv? You can buy almost a whole year's worth of that with $65.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Other than CF, I don't see any legitimate weakness on that team. They've done an amazing job in just a few years of building back to their previous dominance. I'm obviously talking about the Braves. McLouth should be due for a bounce-back year. A lot of good young talent on the Marlins and Braves though. That corner OF duo of Morrison and Stanton should be awesome in Florida.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) JVG made a real interesting point on the NYK vs ORL broadcast last night. He basically said Orlando would be as bad as what Cleveland would be this season if they didn't have Howard, which considering how badly the rest of the supporting cast has played this season, I would actually agree with. I certainly don't think Rose will be the worst MVP winner of all time, he is deserving, but it shows you how much playing for a big market team and being the jewel in the media's eyes, how important that type of stuff can be I guess. I mean the reason the Bulls have improved so much this season, isn't because of an offensive improvement (they've only improved from 18th to 12th IIRC). It's because of defense, and that takes the whole team to buy into the system and become so good at it. I really doubt that... I'd think Orlando would be at least fighting for the 8 spot without Howard. That's like homer Bulls fans saying the Bulls would have 15 wins without Derrick Rose. Crazy talk...

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) I'll take Westbrook as a better defender over Rose. I think the Durant argument is an interesting one also. Now that Jeff Green isn't there, James Harden is really the only other guy who can score on that team, and he's a sixth man. Rose doesn't have the quality of player of Durant on his team, but he has more scoring options alongside him as well. FWIW, here's another article arguing why Rose shouldn't be MVP; http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...better-choices/ Rose's defense has vastly improved this season. He's really thrived in the new system, just like everyone else.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) A utility player covers multiple positions. DeAza and Danks can cover LF, RF, CF. Teahen can cover LF, RF, 1B. All three have only 3 positions they can cover, so none of these guys are really all that special when it comes to a utility role, and none are prototypical utility players. Teahen's best quality, and where he has the advantage, is with the bat. The other two have the advantages of covering a difficult position in CF. Teahen can cover 4-5 positions the way Ty Wigginton can play SS or Rob Mackowiak could play CF. His time in CF, 2B, 3B doesn't count. If we're still going to be penciling Teahen in at 3B then we might as well consider Omar a CF and Lilli a 1B. Might as well use Castro in LF. Lillibridge is better than Teahen in that he can play multiple skill positions which Teahen cannot. He's also a better pinch runner option. Deciding who the better player is between the two comes down to the needs of the team. Personally I'd rather have Lillibridge over Teahen and have that defensive versatility, but whatever. A bench of Castro, Omar, Lilli, and Milledge would be just fine with me if it's 4 men. If we have to take Teahen then I'd take 5 bench guys and leave off the extra pitcher since we're not going to be bringing a legitimate major league pitcher up as that extra bullpen guy. Give me the extra bench guy over the extra gas can please. lol @ your sig.

Humber
Way to crap the bed after an opportunity falls into your lap. Oh well, it's just spring training and he's making the roster unless he gets hurt.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) This should get people talkin; http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/3/24/2068...ssell-westbrook Wesbrook vs. Rose isn't even all that close. Rose is beating Westbrook in Win Shares by almost 3 entire wins (11-8). They're very similar offensive players, but Rose is by far the better defender. Westbrook's assist numbers look good because of that dude named Kevin Durant. Westbrook also has a 45% eFG overall compared to Rose's 48%, meaning Westbrook is taking a lot less 3s than Rose (the similar 3 point percentages then don't really speak the truth as to who is the better 3 point shooter). If you look at how each of these guys take their shots, Rose is the better jump shooter and also finishes better on drives and inside the paint. The only thing that Westbrook is better than Rose at offensively is drawing fouls - which is not really a skill, but in the hands of the referees. I don't know how many times people have complained that Rose doesn't get enough calls - well, he has lately and I think that's going to continue as his reputation gets stronger. I really don't think there's much of a debate as to who is better between the two. Only in the ever-so-broken PER do these two look remotely close. Better stats related to win shares show that there's a much higher disparity between the two.

It woulda been nice had the Pistons beat the Heat today. A win on Friday with that would have put the Heat 4 back. At that point, you'd think there's no way they can catch the Bulls.

Sox #10 in MLB value, Turned a $27mil profit
I like how we had a higher operating income than the Twins last year, despite the fact that they were in a brand new park and everything. BTW, the Padres made the most money last season...spending only $40 million on the on-field product helps I guess.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) Honestly, I think a lot of people thought Wilson Betemit was going to be solid. Pretty sure I did as well. Of course it just so happened that last year he did hit like most of us thought he would, he just did so with Kansas City. Betemit was solid...last year...at the plate.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 06:03 PM) I'm not saying it all fair. s***, who was it on the Braves that practically speared Prior in 2003? I forget who. You keep getting hurt, you're going to get that reputation. Marcus Giles.

Peavy had rotator cuff tendinitis
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 05:35 PM) Remember this is a surgeon. He has no idea about normal spring training activities and normal soreness. He only sees clients when they have significant problems. I think the conversation between him and Schneider at St went something like this: AR: I hear Peavy is having problems HS: Yeah he's tender over the rotator cuff kind of like everyone else now AR: Everyone gets sore? HS: Yeah none of them really follow the off season workouts like they should but with meds it goes away. AR: Really. Huh. Well let's rest him a few weeks and see how it feels HS: It only takes a few days then he should throw to keep it strong so he can keep progressing. AR: OK let's do that. So does this mean Peavy might have a significant problem or was Romero just taking a look at the MRI results?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) LOL, I'm heading to a wedding this weekend where I guess Royce is good friends with the bride & groom. Guess he will have a prior commitment with the M's but I was hoping to ask him why his promising White Sox career was derailed. (after a few drinks of course) He was traded for Roberto Alomar...so that's probably why.

Oh come on Kenny...don't be optimistic about opening day. Be optimistic about a bit later, when Peavy might actually be healthy instead of hiding "normal" soreness.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) The Mariners are going to end up taking 6 NRI's with the major league club. They all have major league experience and what have you, but that just seems a bit ridiculous to me. For those keeping track - Adam Moore, Adam Kennedy, Chris Ray, Jamey Wright, Royce Ring, and Ryan Langerhans. This was a team that quite a few people predicted would win their division last year and even more people thought they were turning their team around rather quickly. It's been a year and they seem to be so thin on major league talent that they are taking 6 NRIs north. I don't care who you are, that's bad. Adam Moore's on their 40 man roster. But yeah, Royce Ring is bad...

Humber
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Humber and Milledge are both garbage to this point; it's what they've proven to be. At least the positions they are fighting for don't matter too much overall. No big deal if these chewed-up scraps make the team. Or Lillibridge for that matter- it's all the same big can a garbage with different levels of optimism poured on top. At least Milledge has talent. Lastings just never got it together. Humber's not all that talented. He's like a better version of Lance Broadway. High pick and overrated by the team that drafted him.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
It's absolutely amazing how everything has developed with this Bulls team as the season progresses. Rose's defense is now pretty damn good. He's shutting down CP3 and Deron Williams like they're Carlos Arroyo-type point guards. After playing pretty meh for the majority of the second half, D-Rose has turned it up in the last three games. Luol Deng has turned into one of the better SFs in the league. Remember when everyone thought his contract was terrible and hated him? Well, now just about everyone loves him, his biggest fan might be Thibs and for good reason, Deng's an elite defender. Noah and Boozer hasn't worked out as well as everybody thought, but they've played, what, 20 games together? I don't remember things working out this well for any Chicago team since the 05 Sox and maybe the 06 Bears. But this Bulls team has a chance to accomplish something really special.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 05:52 PM) That was in like 20 innings, though. Humber over the course of 150 innings or so? I'll take suicide over that. Who says he'll pitch 150 innings? I don't think I'd want him to pitch more than 50 and I hope we don't need him for more than 50.
