  1. Rose just proved why he should win MVP. He's ridiculous.
  2. Bulls starting to open this game up a bit.
  3. This has been a very fun game to watch.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) Jays and Bautista near 5 year 65m extension, they postponed their arb hearing trying to finalize it per Heyman Wow, I'm surprised. Didn't think he'd get that many years.
  5. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) Looks like Brandon Allen is as good as gone in Arizona. Branyan signing seems like yet another indication the Dbacks don't see Brandon Allen as a fit anymore. http://twitter.com/nickpiecoro/status/38015940180312064 Branyan's deal was a MLC. That doesn't mean Allen's gone. Probably just insurance in case Allen doesn't do well to start the year.
  6. So FanGraphs just introduced this thing called "ottoneu" Fantasy baseball. One of the games it has is a linear weight scoring type. But that costs $10 bucks to join, so I figured...why not just take their scoring style and use it on a Yahoo! league for no charge? Draft time is scheduled to change, but right now, it's in 10 days, as in February 26th. Scoring Type: H2H total points 10 teams, top 4 make playoffs Roster Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL Batting At Bats (AB) -1 Hits (H) 5.6 Doubles (2B) 2.9 Triples (3B) 5.7 Home Runs (HR) 9.4 Stolen Bases (SB) 1.9 Caught Stealing (CS) -2.8 Walks (BB) 3 Hit By Pitch (HBP) 3 Pitching Innings Pitched (IP) 5 Saves (SV) 3 Home Runs (HR) -13 Walks (BB) -3 Hit Batters (HBP) -3 Strikeouts (K) 2 Holds (HLD) 1 These values are modeled after wOBA and FIP - two of the essential stats in WAR. With this weighting, hitters and pitchers are pretty much valued equally. I had to include saves and holds in there because of Yahoo's stupid eligibility system. This system rewards heavily for innings, so long relievers or starters/relievers tend to have the most points amongst relievers. That's kind of absurd, so I had to have some way of valuing the good closers and setup men. However, I didn't overvalue them. There's a study done on Beyond the Boxscore that said saves worth anywhere from 0-5 points have a .8-.85 correlation with WAR - so it's within reason to include them, I guess. Anyways, if you're interested... League ID: 43516 Password: jennings
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) Someone has a sick sense of humor. That's awesome.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) But you said "bad". I think they could easily be the second best team in the AL behind Boston. Bad as in not good enough to be a playoff team. I think Texas and Oakland are better. When you look at that lineup, nobody wows you at all. Hunter, Wells and Abreu are .340-.350 wOBA guys. Morales is a .370 wOBA guy. Those are all decent hitters, but that's the middle of their lineup. No to mention they're trotting out bad hitters in Boujos, Aybar, and Mathis. One of those guys might even lead off. Plus, they still lack a closer. Downs could be a decent one I guess, but outside of him and maybe Jepsen or Walden, what makes that a good bullpen? Rodney is extremely mediocre and they have a bunch of slightly above replacement guys to fill the other holes. Like I said, the rotation's good. You got two front end starters in Haren and Weaver and then two solid #3 starters in Piniero and Santana. But then you have the gaping black hole of Scott Kazmir and his near 6 FIP. It's a team with a lot of holes at important places, more specifically, the lineup. Best case scenario, they do win the West. But that's best case. I see them as a 83-85 win team.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 05:01 PM) You think they're bad? Excellent rotation. Above average bullpen. No matter how overpaid Wells is, he's an upgrade. If Morales comes back healthy they've got a pretty good team. Oh, that Peter Bourgos kid looks real nice. Dude can fly and he's already above average defensively. He and Trout might be the two fastest guys in baseball. I don't think they're that good. I like the rotation, but the bullpen is pretty eh. Plus, their offense lacks a lot of depth. No OBP up top or at the bottom. Morales is their only very good hitter. Everybody else in the middle of that lineup is slightly above average.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) Sox win 94 games; eke out division title. Lose in ALDS in 4 to Angels. Dunn .230 33 HR 103 RBI Thornton leads team in saves Sox forced to make Sale a starter in May after AAA fodder blow up in every start, then he goes back to the bullpen by late June when ... Peavy comes back, is average for a 5th starter but not an ace the whole season - 4.50 era 9 wins 120k Cooper leaves in the offseason Buehrle re-signs for 3 years at 8 mil per Sox shop Danks and DFA Teahen God I would hate to lose to that bad Angels team in the ALDS.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) The review for Killzone by PSM was killer. 10/10. PSM loves KIllzone. Hell, they gave the first one a 9.4 even though it was really mediocre.
  12. 91 wins, first in the Central. Morel has a good rookie season, Dunn hits over 40 home runs, Konerko declines to near 2009 levels, Rios begins the year with struggles, but has a good second half to recover, Beckham has a breakout season, and Peavy starts 25 games.
  13. If you want to get technical, 2 of the 5 are not like the other 3. And two of the other 3 are not like the other 2. Then you have Joe Blanton.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 14, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) Scary.
  15. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 12:39 PM) I tried the Killzone 3 beta last night. First thing that stuck out to me was the detail in the graphics. Very impressive. However, the game seemed like a lesser copy of Halo. The second one is still one of the best looking games I've ever seen on any platform - PC included. I like how realistic it feels. The weapons feel like they should in real life - heavy. You also get a decent amount of recoil when you fire. Plus the cover system works nice.
  16. Miller missed a wide open 3.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,995467.column Phil Rogers is just...ugh. Why would the Rangers want to take in more payroll in Soriano? He's getting paid $72 million for the next 4 years and he's declining just as fast as Michael Young is, if not even faster.
  18. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Feb 12, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) My video game ratings (overall) Top 5 Rios - 94 Dunn - 94 Konerko - 92 Alexei - 90 Danks - 90 What game is this for? lol

  20. I wonder how good Crytek can make Crysis 2 look on the consoles. It's looking pretty good on the PC right now, but my PC video card is two generations ahead of what's in the PS3 and 360.
  21. So the Beta build of Crysis 2 got leaked onto the internet somehow... Fun, fun fun. Time to see what my PC can do.
  22. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Another list for you all to digest: Top 9 POWER RANKINGS pre-srping training: 9. Brewers 8. White Sox 7. Cardinals 6. Rangers 5. Tigers 4. Yankees 3. Giants 2. Red Sox 1. Phillies SHOCKED to not see the Twins on there.... Shocked to see the Tigers 5th...
  23. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) I mentioned it in the catch all thread when the episode aired, but no Rios is a joke.... And for those who didnt see the SS episode, the reason they mentioned Alexei being so high on the list was "defensive issues..." that's just straight dropping the ball like ignorance.... He had defensive issues like 2 years ago. Do none of the people who write these things do any kind of fact checking?
  24. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) PK's stance is SO different these days. That old one looks weird. He changes his stance on a weekly basis.
  25. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) Yep it was all about Quantity over Quality in the the end, when you come out with so damn many sequels, it's no wonder. Hopefully Rock Band still keeps coming out though. Something similar should have happened with Call of Duty already, but people just can't stop playing a similar game with the same game engine for the past 3 years. I am also guilty of this I guess. The CoD IW engine needs some serious updating.
