Do we ever have a good game plan against pitchers we've never seen? We looked like bIind peopIe at the plate. Gavin pitched like a pussy, what a surprise. You might as well have started Carrasco.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) To me, there are five teams that look noticeably better than the other 25: The White Sox, Cubs, Angels, Rays, and Red Sox. There are ups and downs, three game losing streaks and so on, but those five teams just look really good to me. The Phillies would probably be #6 for me, their record isn't great but they will get going and are very dangerous. The Red Sox are way better than the Phillies.
  3. QUOTE (Cowch @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) The pitcher we're facing tonight has TERRIBLE numbers. If we can't win, I will be very upset. Does Jorge De La Rosa ring a bell to you? The White Sox can hit anybody if they feature a fastball and a bad/no change up. However, we can't hit anybody with a good straight change or an effective off-speed pitch.
  4. Anybody know anything about Mendoza? Looking at his game log, he really struggled in his previous start.
  5. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) Maybe you can say something of substance... Boston, LAA, Milwaukee, Tampa, Toronto, Oakland, Cubs, Arizona all have better starting staffs IMO. I'd have to look a little bit more to see if I could find more teams. I'm a guy who takes quality over quantity. So I look at a team like Milwaukee with two #1 starters and I'm pretty sure I'd rather have their rotation. And Bush, Suppan, and Parra have pitched about as well as Contreras and Vazquez. Maybe the the Sox have the best #4 and #5 starters (Vazquez and Count) in the league but come playoff time that doesn't really matter much. Out of all of those, I would only say the Angels' rotation is better. Arizona's fallen off big time. Johnson, Owings, and Davis haven't done much since their hot start.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) This entire post is absolutely ridiculous. Are there even 10 teams in baseball with 5 adequate starters?
  7. Check out the new ESPN power rankings. WE'RE #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/powerranking
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) Im looking forward to watching Hamilton get frozen on a wicked Gavin curve... And I wish it would be in the first inning. Because when Gavin has his stuff from the get go, it's pretty hard to hit him.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) If by long night you mean long 4 hour game that we win, 12-11, OK. But even if he gets clobbered how do you know the Sox won't outslug them? So if Gavin has a bad outing we suddenly have 3 iffy starters in Jose, Javy and Gavin? How the heck do we have one of the best records in baseball? Sometimes, it's Gavin's tendency to pitch like crap on the road. That's all I'm saying.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:59 AM) The Sox are one of the best fastball hitting teams in the entire majors. If you throw 93+, you, at the very least, probably won't shut the Sox down. On the flip side, anybody who throws like Jamie Moyer has a chance to dazzle us.
  11. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) The roster is all set. If you count up the players, there's 33 including Ortiz. Well, considering that the AL gets to vote for a DH (one more guy than the NL), they get less reserves. So yeah...
  12. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) Our bullpen is one of the best in the league. yes they can pitch over that. Buehrle is known for not being able to pitch over mistakes, but when he did Konerko muffed it. Im not denying that, I know Konerko screwed up, Im just not going to lay all the blame at his feet You can blame the entire team, but with that strike zone yesterday, do you think any team would of had moderate success? You can also blame Swisher, Crede, and Alexei for playing some questionable defense in that inning, but if it wasn't for Konerko's play, they aren't forced to make those plays. Therefore, Konerko has the most blame in this. I'm not saying he's up for 100% blame, but he's got at least 75-80% in this.
  13. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) They better have a ton of WD40, cause his rust has been on him all year. I think this is gonna be another 2003 kind of year for Konerko. You're gonna get 20 homers out of him and he's gonna hit below .250. Hopefully, he doesn't screw the team up anymore. Just hope he's not costing his team anymore games. There were a couple of weird defensive alignments in that 8th. What was Crede doing so far off the line to a right handed pull hitter? What was Swisher doing so shallow against a power hitter like Guillen? Did our coaching staff fall asleep?
  14. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 07:39 AM) i just saw the highlights....no doubt in my mind brenly was joking about it being windblown He was joking, obviously.
  15. There is no way the Sox will or should get rid of Konerko. I think he needs a couple of days off... If anything, he should of had a longer rehab assignment. He looks bad all around right now. The rust was really pilling up over those two weeks.
  16. Floyd might get clobbered. He better have his best stuff or he's gonna be done after 2-3 innings. If he starts messing around in the first and walks a bunch of guys, it's going to be a long night...
  17. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) Did Konerko throw the cookie to Guillen and Teahen? Did Konerko fail to throw the ball in resulting in a inside the park homerun? Im not denying that the floodgates opened after his error/non-error, but there is such thing as damage control, and the bullpen did not provide it. You know this team's tendencies and Mark Buehrle's tendencies. They can't pitch over defensive mistakes. Knowing that, Konerko has to make that play. It wasn't like the throw was terribly bad, he just dropped it.
  18. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) Few days back from the DL and the overeaction begins..... Joe Crede cannot field eithier, time to dump him At least Joe is hitting better than .215... It's not like Konerko was doing anything awesome before his DL stint.
  19. QUOTE (BBaum21 @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Bradley was named to the team initially, correct? People have been saying Bradley is Ortiz's injury replacement on the roster, but I don't think so. I think he's just replacing Ortiz in the starting lineup Tuesday. Can anyone clarify? Ortiz is still taking a spot, Bradley was initially on the team.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 08:05 AM) Really? Hart: .292/.332/.510, 47 R, 15 HR, 57 RBI, 13 SB Rowand: .296/.362/.453, 40 R, 8 HR, 47 RBI, 1 SB Burrell: .279/.412/.581, 48 R, 22 HR, 54 RBI, 0 SB Theres no doubt in my mind Wright should have been the guy and Lee has been better too, but Rowands numbers dont even compare, and although Burrell has more homers, Hart has the base-running versatility so those two guys are close. Burrell leads all outfielders in OPS. His OPS is over 1.000!
  21. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) ^^^^^^^^^ Thank you.... we couldn't win it with "That Jim Thome" about a month and a half ago...but look what happened.... Thome was still hitting homers, plus, Jim doesn't play in the field. Konerko isn't hitting anything! And now, he's not fielding.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 10:09 PM) If this team doesn't make the postseason, it will be due to our starting pitching staff hitting the wall. Like it did yesterday? I know it's popular to blame Konerko, but for all of those saying that it wasn't just his fault, it was. Paulie's not only sucking with the bat, but also with the glove. I imagine his VORP is 20 points below 0. That's how bad he's been.
  23. chw42 replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have a bad feeling about this Texas series. Our pitching will face a real test.
  24. chw42 replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Buehrle deserved better. Paulie needs to get it back together. He's worthless right now. That 8th inning was just UGH.
  25. Paulie, if you suck with the bat, it's ok. If you also suck with the glove and cost your team the game, it's not.
