RotoWorld Suggests White Sox should sign Jim Edmonds
No... We don't need another 38 year old on this team.

Brian Anderson as a power hitter?
If BA can just hit .240 with an OBP above .300, he can be a decent player on this team. Owens is pretty much a .260 hitter with a .320 OBP, not good enough for a leadoff hitter. You might as well have Getz lead off with his .340-.350 OBP instead and have Anderson bat 9th, taking over Uribe's production, which is basically what Anderson will give you, but in centerfield instead of shortstop/3rd base.

CBS Commissioner League
Just to clear this up, this league has no fees. It's a CBS commissioner league. Scoring is head to head. 10x10 format (I will go into detail if you ask). Draft is next Saturday at 3 PM CT, 4 PM ET, 1 PM PT, although it can be changed if we don't get enough members or some of our members cannot make it that day. Some extra details: Mixed format, Lineup-changes everyday, 24 overall players, including 2 DL spots and 6 reserves, you need 16 active players, 2 divisions, 10 teams, 2 commissioners, eligibility is at 10 games started in previous season and 5 started in the current season, and some other things I don't have off the top of my head. If you're interested, PM me. Or you can leave your email in this thread if you aren't so paranoid. Please make sure you are devoted to this league and have the time to attend to it. I don't want members who aren't willing to play. There's 5 spots left (theoretically) and it will fill up pretty fast...

JOE.CREDE. = Twinkie
I never like seeing ex-White Sox players in Twins uniforms, especially one that helped us win it all back in 05. I honestly don't see Crede being real healthy on that turf of theirs.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
The Thunder must have really liked Thabo... How in the world did we get a first round pick in return? It'll most likely be a lottery pick or even a top 3 pick. Wow the Bulls have had it good for the past two years draft-wise. This team better be something next year.

The Count 42 lbs lighter.
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) Contreras in 2000: Contreras in 2008: Jose must have gotten some more ration money from Castro after the 2000 Olympics. xD

The Count 42 lbs lighter.
QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) On the Final Word on Fox last night, Corey reported that Jose has lost 42lbs while recovering from the Achilles injury. And from the video they showed of him, he looks alot better than his previous Sox years. So how will this work out for him and the team? It seems kind of weird to lose weight while having an injury that prohibits you from walking or doing any excessive exercises. But it's good for Jose.

ESPN radio reporting Mets/White Sox talks heating up...
QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) If we could get Murphy, Pelfry, and Martinez for Jenks and Vazquez, as well as Edwin Jackson and another piece or two for Dye, as well as one big free agent signing, I'd consider this to be one hell of a successful offseason. Edwin Jackson sucks. I'd want somebody besides him for Dye.

Danks quote on election
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:37 PM) Brooks Boyer is salivating right now. Every time Obama is photographed wearing White Sox gear, it means purchases will be made in Africa, Asia, South America...all around the world, for those who see his presidency as a beacon of hope and fresh start for the US in the world again after 9/11. I wouldn't be surprised if the upswing meant additional millions over the next four-eight years in additional revenue streams...and even more and more rap stars, hip hop artists will be wearing Sox gear again. Just imagine all the young kids in Africa/Asia growing up with White Sox gear, like they have Michael Jordan jerseys now. Pretty cool. The Game wears his Sox cap a lot. He even talks about it in his songs. I think he mentioned his Sox hat in at least 3 songs in LAX.

MLB To End Coin Flips?
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) This proves the coin flip system is stupid. From the losing team's point of view, yes. From our point of view, no.

MLB To End Coin Flips?
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Your post is a little confusing to me. I'm just saying if the Sox would have beaten the Twins 10-8 head-to-head, and the Twins won the coin flip, Sox fans would have been pissed. But we didn't win the season series... That's what I'm saying. Given our circumstances this year, it was a blessing to do the coin flip, win or lose. I know I wouldn't of b****ed had we lost the coin flip. I would of b****ed at the fact that our guys couldn't beat the Twins once in the Twinkie Dome in three chances.

MLB To End Coin Flips?
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) Absolutely if the shoe was on the other foot, White Sox fans would have brought b****ing to a new level. Why in the world would we b****? What other way could they have done it with the White Sox getting the home field advantage? Our record against the Twins was worse than the Twins record against us. So that would mean they should have home field. We had the same actual records. I doubt they would do record vs. own division. Basically, the coin flip was the only chance the Sox had at getting that game at home. Win or lose, you'll take it cause you have a 50/50 shot. If you don't, you'll have no chance. What would you take? 50% chance or 0% chance?

MLB To End Coin Flips?
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) Coin flips are dumb, had we lost the flip, people would have been b****ing forever about it, period. No, cause if we did it any other way, we would of had to play at the baggy dome.

Danks quote on election
QUOTE (forrestg @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) I listened to Obama"s speech after winning the election but I heard that when he becomes president that Whitesox players will not have to pay any income taxes so many players will come to the whitesox sign for less because they won't have to pay income taxes. The whitesox will be known as "America" team" teal Ha. That would be sweet.

Danks quote on election
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) I worked for an African-American NFL football player (wide receiver from UGA who played for the Broncos and Giants from 92-97) and he was VERY much a Republican. Most of them wouldn't admit to not voting for Obama, but I would guess 75% of them vote Republican because the main issue they care about is taxes. Especially this last election, when Obama was very open/honest about taxing those in the $250K and above bracket at a higher rate. It would be interesting to see which players (NFL, NBA, MLB) voted, and for whom. Exit polls showed that 52% of the population that made 200K or more voted for Obama. Quite surprising if you ask me.

NOT a new name for the IF rumor's....
He's the second coming of Jose Valentin if you ask me.

MLB To End Coin Flips?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) You can always add tie breakers. Go to division records then. I still think they should keep the coin flips in, but not do it in the beginning of September. I think the most logical thing is to base it off of head-to-head record and then have the coin flip there if it's needed.

MLB To End Coin Flips?
How are they going to decide who gets homefield for a Wild Card tie-breaker where the teams played a even amount of games and ended up tied for the season series then?

State of our starting pitchers
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) Sabean aint that stupid, you would have to throw in a bunch of young prospects, even then I think any team can beat our offer for what they need (which is younger players who are cheaper, unless Sabean really believes his team can compete after losing Cain). If we can get Cain for Jermaine Dye (or even better...Swisher), I would piss my pants in joy.

State of our starting pitchers
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) I don't trade Vazquez for him though. I'd trade Vazquez for Hardy and that's about it from Milwaukee. I would like to know how you know he undervalues Lincecum...because I imagine if he did that, Lincecum would be in a different uniform right now. In other words, I highly doubt he undervalues Lincecum. J.J. Hardy's a good hitting shortstop, but he is extremely streaky.

State of our starting pitchers
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Poreda throws a slider and changeup and they are both average pitches. He can start in the majors with his repetoire because his fastball is explosive with movement. An Ace? No. Top of the rotation guy? No. But a 4 or 5? Certainly. Jon Garland: 4.90 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, .303 batting average against, 59 BBs and 90 Ks. Javier Vazquez: 4.67 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, .263 batting average against, 61 BBs and 200 Ks. By these numbers, it is also safe to say that Vazquez underperformed based on peripherals and Garland overperformed. Garland, as much as I love him, is trash. Garland didn't overperform. He had his worst year this season since 2004. I don't think he likes Anaheim very much.

2008 World Series - Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Rays in 6.

CC Sabathia
No. He won't take anything less than 5-6 years. Sox don't give pitchers 3 or more year contracts. He's too expensive and he wants to stay in the NL.

Does anybody know the history of the changeup?
QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) Forget heat - If you have location, accuracy, and a frisbee-like release, that batter is dead to rights at least once, maybe twice. Like Shingo?

OK...so who's worth more...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) David Eckstein also wins rings. Because he's not the only one that always sucks in the playoffs for the Yankees? I understand the whole "he's making 5 billion dollars a year so he should produce" argument, but when you get little to no help from your teammates, it tends to be hard. Anyways, Alex Rodriguez plays 3B, doesn't need to be traded to be motivated, and he annually puts up better regular season numbers than Manny Ramirez. Alex Rodriguez is easily more valuable than Manny Ramirez. David Eckstein also won a WS MVP.
