Montoyo kinda felt like another Rick Renteria.

He's much better when he can consistently throw mid 90s. I thought he would look good one time through the order as a starter but would give up some bombs the 2nd time through on his off speed stuff.

At least they got a run out of it.

I thought it was a matter of circumstance that he hit well in the leadoff spot since he was hitting well when TA was injured. But he wasn't exactly scorching the ball before today and putting him in the leadoff spot immediately got him to hit the ball well. Maybe there is a correlation.

Coming into today, Pollock had a 193 wRC+ in 53 PAs in the leadoff spot.

AJ Pollock just likes hitting in the leadoff spot.

The walks really killed it for him. He didn't get hit too hard, but he had a ton of traffic on the bases.

Carlos Perez should get a shot if Seby and Grandal continue to suck.

Kopech's stuff just went down the drain this inning.

If we lose today you don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow with Giolito on the mound. At this point if we give up 3 runs in a game the offense isn't gonna put up enough to win a game.

Well scoring 4 runs seems impossible for this team...

Usually Kopech has these types of innings in the first and not the 3rd.

He's a poor man's Eloy.

His slider has very little horizontal movement this year. In the last game he was getting on average just 3 inches of horizontal break on it. I'm not sure you can even call it a slider when it moves that little horizontally. It's honestly more of a cutter. He had way better movement on his slider last year. They might have tried tinkering with his slider this year cause they were suspicious that he was tipping the pitch. And it looks like he was. There was a 2 inch difference between his average slider release point vs. fastball release point. Most guys on the Sox have about a 1 inch difference between their release points for different pitches, some even less. Liam has almost no difference between his slider and fastball release point, which is probably how he gets so many guys to swing at his sliders way out of the zone. The problem with the tinkering is that there is still about the same difference in release point as last year, but now the shape of the pitch is worse. It's crazy to me that Katz has gotten Cease to throw what is probably the best slider in the Majors this year, but Kopech's slider has heavily regressed.

Are they freeing up a roster spot for JBJ or Didi Gregorious?
