  1. Yeah, you can easily find an 11 start period last year where he was pretty good. In fact, he had an 11 start stretch where he had a 3.2 ERA from late April to to mid June. Sox will be lucky to get a 4.5 ERA out of him next year.
  2. I'll be very surprised if we get anything useful for him.
  3. 6 bWAR is a vast over value for him. bWAR tends to go crazy when a good pitcher has a good year with a bad defense behind him. I think his true value is probably somewhere around 2-3 WAR.
  4. Miley also collapsed down the stretch for Cincy after pitching really well for the first 5 months. He did something similar for Houston a few years back. His profile of allowing weak contact is intriguing but I ultimately think he's at the mercy of luck since he really doesn't miss a whole lot of bats. The fact that teams didn't want him for 1 year and $10 million in a trade should tell you what his market really is. Good pickup for the Cubs though, since they got him for just the money alone. I wouldn't want to be him when the wind is blowing out at Wrigley though.
  5. Probably. It really nerfed him as a pitcher. He got a bit too predictable as a reliever.
  6. Just because they didn't pick it up doesn't mean they won't sign someone for cheap at 2B. I still think Escobar is the most likely guy they sign to play 2B.
  7. He actually threw more than fastball+slider when he started. I'm gonna guess he wasn't comfortable throwing the curveball without a good amount of time to warm up and get a good feel for it.
  8. Is there a live stream for this?
  9. He declined the mutual option but is still arb eligible for $9 million.
  10. Duvall also had heavy reverse splits in 2021. He couldn't hit lefties at all, but has pretty even splits for his career. A reverse splits right handed hitter might not be a bad idea for the Sox. Much better than a right handed outfielder that do most of their damage against lefties.
  11. He lost a lot of weight last year and it paid off. He probably had his 2nd best season of his career and was a huge positive defensively.
  12. DJJ matches up much better defensively. I also like his energy on the court a lot, even though Javonte is also a high energy guy. The +/- for Javonte in his last 2 starts don't lie though. He's not fit to be a starter on the team.
  13. Yup. Springer was out for a lot of last year. If he stays healthy that lineup is probably just as good as it was last season. We may have less weak spots but we don't have the type of impact bat that Vlad Jr. is. Don't get me wrong, Robert might get somewhere close to that one day, but he's not there yet.
  14. The funny thing is that when they've had huge leads in games, they've let the other team cut it down by at least half almost every time.
  15. c Well said. I don't know how we can look at what happened in the 2nd half and in the playoffs and think that there's nothing wrong with our coaching staff.
  16. I'd easily rather have the Jays offense over ours, even if they lose Semien. Brewers have the best top 3 in all of baseball for starting pitching. Most of those teams don't have the balance the Sox have though.
  17. Wow right after he resurrected his career too. He didn't hit great in the 2nd half but he was still alright. I'm guessing he's just not all there health wise.
  18. I think this was pretty evident after they lost McCullers. We even hit Garcia and Valdez pretty hard. We really did end up facing the best version of the Astros.
  19. Soler just hit a Pujols esque bomb over the train tracks. 446 feet.
  20. I think with the new rules this year, DeRozan and his mid-range game benefit quite a bit just because the efficiency of the league goes down a bit without all the free points the refs were giving to the Trey Youngs and James Hardens of the league. Plus I think there's a lot of value in having a guy who's good in the mid-range late in games. Especially when the Bulls have had so many issues closing games last year. LaVine, as great as he is, really has not shown that he's a consistent 4th quarter scorer. DeMar brings stability to the team down the stretch. What really bothered me with the DeRozan criticism from guys like Hollinger is that he's been an efficient offensive player over the past few years in SA. His TS% was almost .600 last year. It's not like he was scoring 20 points on 25 shots. You'd think he was Jalen Rose or Ron Mercer with the way some people ragged on him.
  21. He had shot the ball terribly until tonight. They really needed him too cause he was one of the only guys keeping them afloat in the third quarter.
  22. Bulls looked dead in the water today down 19 in the third. They're probably gonna win by double digits. Crazy how good this team is.
  23. Can't be walking Martin Maldonado with this Astros lineup. That's your one break in the lineup.
  24. Snitker did what Cash got destroyed for in last year's WS. He pulled his pitcher after 5 when they were rolling. But it worked out for him so he gets the praise for "trusting his gut" while Cash got killed for it in the press and all the old school guys said sabermetrics was killing baseball. It's a results oriented business, I guess.
  25. Ugh. I remember he grimmaced and looked at his hand after one of his shots against Toronto.
