*The Sqwert is Back* GT 6/5: Sox @ SEA

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 07:53 PM) Oh so those calls were the right calls? Hawk can't control them giving up 5 runs... No, they weren't. But you had a HUGE opportunity to win the game, and you gave up 5 runs instead. I don't want to hear about the umpires blowing a call when they shouldn't even be playing this game right now. It should have been over. -

I'm done with Hawk. You want to sit here and b**** about the umpiring?! Here's a clue, don't give up 5 runs in the bottom of the 14th and you don't have to worry about it. I use to love him, but he can't get his walking papers fast enough. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 04:32 PM) Best part is they wont release him to attend somewhere else so they are forcing him to sit out a year. Dick move I have to agree with that though. If you start letting kids out of their commitment, what is the point in even having a national signing day or a letter of intent? And national signing day was what, 4 months ago? -
Can someone explain to me how Mohammed shoves LeBron to the ground and gets thrown out, but Birdman shoulders Hansbrough to the ground and then shoves him, and he doesn't get ejected? This is the type of s*** that annoys me so much about the NBA. The complete lack of consistency. (Yes, I know, it's nothing new.) Edit: TNT answered my question. The NBA rewards flopping.

So I decided to watch Costas tonight after the Hawks game... Is this Paterno stuff really still going on? I wish only the worst for the Paterno family. -
Holy crap, is Stevenson trying to lose this game? Pass the ball, and stop taking stupid shots.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 8, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) On less polarizing matters, why is Rip Hamilton not playing? Has anyone heard anything? If Rip can't play, it really exposes our lack of depth. Daequan Cook can't keep getting important minutes and Marco shouldn't have to be on the floor for garbage time. I wouldn't be surprised if it was related to the fact that when he was hurt this season, he just completely disappeared. From what I remember, no one knew where he was, he wasn't reporting in, or traveling with the team.

This is ugly and embarrassing. The Bulls start the game, run their mouths and trash talk, and then the Heat curb stomp them. Not exactly the response you'd hope for.

One guy writes an article not stating any sources on hoopsworld (which isn've very reliable), it gets national attention, and is almost being stated as fact? You think it would take a little more than that.

And they're falling apart.

LeBron shoulders Nate walking off the court and nothing, but then Nate gets T'd up?

I figured I'd see if anyone out there does home brewing. I'm going to start this weekend. I bought a kit online, and I'm going to hit up Brew and Grow to get some missing pieces. Any advice to first timers? I took a class at Brew and Grow, and I have the book they suggest, so I have a decent idea of how to start. Edit: I thought I was in SLAM, could a MOD please move? Thank you!

TT doesn't seem pleased in that interview.

This is just amazing.

I truly believe Rose NEEDS to play Saturday to save his image. I can only imagine the types of articles and comments that will come out during the offseason if he doesn't play. He's getting all this heat right now while games are still being played. I think a combination of writers running out of things to write during the summer, and upset players not being resigned with the Bulls will lead to some ugly stories for Rose.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) I don't agree with kerr at all. 1. NO, he does NOT "owe" his teammates anything. 2. Comparing his injury with incredibly less severe ones is beyond ridiculous. Bulls management is doing what's best for the organization, especially long-term. And not necessarily over any sort of affection towards Rose. I see it as a joint decision, as it should be. The backlash has been silly. And speaking of kerr, I'm thankful for his contributions to the Bulls those few championship years as I'm sure he is too since he probably doesn't get some of the opportunities he's gotten without that exposure. But he was a horrible GM and is a crappy announcer. Kerr has been with Rose on this the whole time. He is now saying that the other Bulls are out there playing hurt, and giving it all they can. If Rose is no longer feeling hurt, but it's only mental, then he needs to help his teammates and play a few minutes. I think that's a fair comment.

As a buckeye, I am not at all pleased with the new Big 10 divisions. -
QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 11:56 PM) I was more or less trying to say that even though the Bears may not have thought in a vacuum that Long was better than Eifert, the fact that Long is a guard may have given him more value than Eifert at TE. I'm not arguing Long vs Eifert. I'm arguing Long vs every other position of need. There were highly rated DTs, LBs, and CBs on the board. All positions of need. If they thought Long was the best of the bunch, then ok. Again, I disagree, but they have a valid reason. If they said the next guy after Long wasn't good, but other DTs, LBs, and CBs are better than Long, you take the better player that fills your need. You can't worry about who will or who won't be there next round, because it's a crap shoot, and you don't know. You take the best player that fills a need.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 11:48 PM) My point is if the Bears value the OG position like the Saints did (Kromer was their OL coach) and they are left with really nothing there then wouldn't it become a pretty high priority? Not when you have a lot of other positions that need help. Your top 2 CB's aren't under contract next year. You could argue that you can upgrade 2 of the 3 LB positions, and that your DL is aging. If you think Long is a 1st round pick, then good. If you have players that fill your other needs that you rank higher than Long, but you pick Long because the next OG isn't nearly as good, that's a bad decision.
-
QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 11:44 PM) I generally agree, but on some level positional need does play a role. If the best player available was a quarterback, would you want them to pick one? I think we're arguing 2 different things here. No, I don't think the Bears should take a QB if it's the best on the board.

Cubby bear is more of a concert hall these days than a sports bar. Sluggers is a crap hole. I haven't been to Cork & Kerry or the new Hounds Tooth enough to comment, but they seem decent enough. I do love Joe's Bar for sports. I think it should be higher. I find it amusing that 3 of the top 5 sports bars are in wrigleyville. I would throw West End on this list, because I love the environment that bar has right before a Bulls game.

QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) You're right. The best player on the board always black and white. How do you know that the Bears didn't draft who they thought to be the best player on the board? My response had nothing to do with who the Bears had as their best player on the board. My comment was in response to 2nd city, you don't draft a player because the next player at the same position is so much worse. That's also why i said "If that was the Bears thought process, I'd be even more disappointed." What I'm trying to say is, you can't look at the board and say "Well, we'd much rather take Ogletree or Eifert over Long, but after Long, there aren't any OG left." Now, if the Bears legit thought Long was better, then I disagree, but I'm ok with it. If their pick was, as 2nd city said, out of fear, then I strongly disagree with the choice.
-
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 10:59 PM) Had some time to think on the way home and I feel a little better about the Bears pick. Perhaps I'm forcing myself to but I did come up with some logic behind it. The way I'm taking it is the Bears didn't think as highly on Gabe Carimi as I thought they did, or as I do. I also remembered the whole Kromer works the line from the inside out so he needs a good OG tandem. That said if you look at who is left after Long at OG the list pretty much only goes 1 deep with Warford with Dallas Thomas as an honorable mention. Those guys very easily could be gone at #50 and then we're left with some guy named Matt Summers-Gavin as NFL.coms top rated OG. If this was the Bears thought process for their pick, I will be even more disappointed. You have so many holes to fill (OL, LB, CB). You don't draft a G because the next possible G is so much worse... You draft the best player, and worry about who's left in the next round.
-
I find it amusing that Geno Smith, Lacy, and Te'o were not drafted in the 1st round. I thought all 3 of these guys were over rated, but I thought someone would bite on all of them.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 10:33 PM) Hypothetical: if Matt Barkley and Manti Te'o are available for the Bears in 2nd round, which do you pick? I think Barkley will be a good NFL QB, and if the Bears needed a QB i'd take him. The Bears don't need a QB though, so I'd have to say Te'o.
