115 Bourbon Street and Turtles were both on the news yesterday. It looked like they were open and not very crowded, and bourbon street had outside seating, but you may want to call and verify before going that way.

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
SexiAlexei replied to TaylorStSox's topic in SLaM
I took the conversations with Littlefinger and with Brienne in a completely different way. Littlefinger said something along the lines that Brienne would protect either sister in a fight no matter who started it. So if Sansa wanted to kill off or get rid of Arya, Brienne could not be there. Sansa's whole story about sending Brienne as her proxy to this meeting is just an excuse to get Brienne out of the castle. Sansa started to get angry with Brienne in their meeting because Sansa just wants her gone. She doesn't care what Brienne has to say. I expect Sansa to try to kill Arya in the finale. Either that, or this is a huge mind game with Littlefinger. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) But as a Bears fan, Id rather have had them go a different direction, pick Peterman from Pitt and then maybe get a shot at a QB in next years class. This is my major complaint with what the Bears did. They picked a project who shouldn't see the field this year. That means at best the guy will start in 2018. They should have taken BPA, which I think was Adams at the time. They have not done anything to improve themselves this year, so they will most likely be picking at the top of next year's draft, where there are legit QB prospects. So now, when the Bears are picking at the top of the 2018 draft, and Rosen or Darnold are staring them in the face, they're going to pass because they have a project QB who will hopefully not have taken the field yet. It makes no sense to me, and I'll be just as disappointed next year when they pass on true prospects.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 07:52 PM) Bears traded up with the 49ers to select North Carolina QB Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft. Stunning. Owners of the No. 3 pick, Chicago surrendered this year's Nos. 3, 67 and 111 selections and a 2018 third-rounder to move up one spot. It means they faced intense competition. Trubisky (6’2/222) sat behind 2016 Packers camp arm Marquise Williams his first two seasons at UNC before taking the starting reigns as a redshirt junior last season and leading the Tar Heels to an 8-5 mark with school records in passing yards (3,748) and touchdowns (30). A plus athlete with 4.67 speed, Trubisky added five rushing TDs and is a legitimate scrambling threat. On tape, Trubisky impresses as a tough competitor with a quick release, but he showed a tendency to get squeamish when pressured and made only 13 college starts. The small sample makes him a frightening prospect. Nevertheless, Trubisky looks the part of a potential mid-range NFL starter with Ryan Tannehill-level tools. He'll compete with Mike Glennon for the Bears' starting job. Per Rotoworld Glennon lame duck already mid-range NFL starter with Ryan Tannehill-level tools. That is awful.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) They have been making this move for years. But only when it is going to be a big crowd. If they were expecting 11k, this game would have been called by noon. So the biggest fans who took a day off work are who they're gonna piss off? Good luck getting fans in. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) With this kind of open to free agency, hopefully the Bears just say F it, and play for the 2018 first pick. I sure hope that's their plan. Rosen is a much better prospect than any of the QBs in this draft. Pick him and hope you just got your QB solution for years to come. -
QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) Congrats! Ran the marathon in 2015. Didn't get in this year. My recommendation would be to get a place as close to Central Park as possible allowing you to walk back after the race. The subway after the race is free, but it is extremely crowded. When I ran it, I used hotwire to get a place in Midtown near Times Square. Think I paid like $200/night. I liked it because the buses to the start line were located a block away from my hotel, and it was about a 2 mile walk back to the hotel from the finish line. It's an awesome race. Unfortunately nothing is going to be really cheap. Have fun. Thanks! And thanks a lot for the reply. I wasn't aware there were buses that took you to the starting line, that helps a ton.

Can anyone recommend a decent area to stay in NYC that isn't extremely expensive? I just got into the NYC marathon, but I don't know a damn thing about NYC.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) He failed as a 33 year old head coach and even then he did have a .500 season followed by a bad year with Tebow/Orton at QB (and the .500 year was with Orton IIRC). I think he was one of those people who if he looks back, probably learned a lot from that experience and should be in a great position to be a really good head coach. And while he handled the Cutler thing wrong...was he really wrong on Cutler? Yes, I think he was wrong with Cutler. The man decided Tebow/Orton were better than Cutler, which I'd say is pretty obviously wrong. If I'm not mistaken, I also think he pushed to draft Tebow. NE is good because of their head coach, I would be careful giving this guy another try. I sure hope the Bears don't go after him.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) I was referring to the guy up in Michigan. Agree with you on Harbaugh leaving Ravens. I can't be hiring a head coach and not put Harbaugh at the top of my list. Rams are going to throw everything his way. It will be interesting to see if he takes them up on there offer. If he believes in Goff, it is a pretty attractive job (it also is for a McDaniels or Shanny as well) as they will have lots of resources, need help at oline/wideout, but have a quality defense (despite just getting whipped) and will have fantastic resources heading into a new stadium, etc. Key of course is developing Goff. Why would anyone be interested in hiring McDaniels? With the way he failed in Denver, I wouldn't think anyone would touch him again.

2016-2017 NCAA football thread

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 06:27 AM) Expanding has nothing to do with athletics. It's all about tv revenue. BYU, Cincy, USF or UCF would make the most sense out of the rumored schools. I don't know the point in bringing in Houston since the Big 12 already has that market covered. I would think athletics is strongly tied to tv revenue. I don't imagine a school like Memphis would have a strong football following, so you are not picking up that many new tv households (relative to a bigger school). Is that gain in households worth the loss to the conference image? I'd assume there are very few, if any, schools in the smaller conferences left that would be a net gain. They need to find a way to poach a school from another big conference to actually improve. -

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 06:56 PM) I'll go with BYU, Memphis At that point, why even expand? None of those schools improve your conference. As far as football is concerned, it just waters it down even more. -
QUOTE (juddling @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 12:03 PM) So...attended first Sox game of year yesterday (winner!!) and wife got tickets right near right field foul pole. We were right behind the sports bar and i was wondering if anyone knew the price for the seats on the patio above??? i looked at a couple places online and their seating charts just say 'sports bar patio'. Were those seats available to anyone in the bar??? I did notice they had designations (D1, D2, D3) so i assume they needed actual tickets but can't find info??? I haven't been there in a while, but from what I remember, the downstairs benches are free to the first to arrive, and you have to pay to sit at the 2nd level benches. It's first come first serve and they sell tickets in the bullpen bar. When I went, the lady in the back of the bar selling frozen drinks was the person selling the wristbands for the tables. I forget how much they cost though.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 03:14 PM) My pick for tonight is gonna be RB Ezekiel Elliot. My off the board/shock people pick is CB William Jackson III As a Buckeye and a Bears fan, this is what I am hoping for. I don't think Zeke will be available at 11, but it would be fun to root for him for the next few years on the Bears. I also don't think he's the ideal pick for the Bears, but it seems like all the potential picks at 11 have some sort of question marks, so it's not the worst idea.

To me, this season is pretty dull. There's no point in the competitions. If you win, you aren't safe. They can just throw your bloodline in. If you have a weaker bloodline, it'd be better for you to lose, just like in Abe's case. He would have stood a much better chance last night. Hopefully going back to working with your bloodline will make it more interesting.

I have absolutely no idea where to start, so after seeing this thread I thought I might ask here and hopefully someone could point me in the right direction. My dad loves home improvement projects, but doesn't like to finish them. I'd say my parent's home is 30-40% under "renovations" right now and not getting much better. It's been his plan for a long time to do these improvements so he can get the house in selling shape and move to a much cheaper area. However, recently he has mentioned just selling the house as is so my parents can just get out. This in my mind is an AWFUL idea. He'd be leaving so much money on the table. I mentioned that he should get someone in there to evaluate the house, give suggestions on improvements that would increase the value of the house, and then just get someone to do them. He seemed open to the idea, but neither of us know where to start. So this is my question. Who would you hire to come in and suggest home improvements? What I'm looking for is someone to come in, say if you remodel your kitchen it'll cost you $8k, but your house value could go up $12k. Things along this line. Would this be a realtor? Does something like this even exist? Maybe I've seen too much HGTV. Thanks in advance.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) If I had to rank teams right now: 1 Utah 2 Florida 3 Ohio State 4 Oklahoma 5 Clemson 6 LSU 7 Texas A&M 8 Michigan State 9 Baylor 10 Northwestern I don't understand the Florida love right now. Sure, they put a stomping on Ole Miss, but the only reason Ole Miss was ranked that high was because Bama handed them a win with something like 5 turnovers. They beat Tennessee by 1, Kentucky by 5, and East Carolina by 7. If they still look good at the end of October then I'll be impressed, but I wouldn't be surprised if they go 1-2 in the next 3 games. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) The Score this morning said that when the Steelers complained, the NFL went to check out the Patriots headsets (and to tell them to take it off until the problem was solved), but every time they got near the Patriots sideline the problem magically resolved. However, on the Dan Patrick show, this was never brought up, and Patrick was saying that it's the NFL that runs the wireless equipment, so it's on them, not the Patriots, for not sorting it out or making the headsets unavailable for both sides. I was wondering, even if the NFL provided the headsets, how do they transmit? If it's via radio signal, couldn't the Patriots just transmit the game on that radio frequency? I imagine that wouldn't be hard to do. Not saying they did, but just because the NFL provides the headsets doesn't mean other teams can not still interfere with them. Then again, I'm not very familiar with this, so maybe it is impossible to do.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) I'm all for bad mouthing Bielema b****ing about schedules, but why do you need to play strong out of conference opponents to have a strong schedule? Do conference games not count as part of the schedule now? The only part of a teams schedule they can control is their OOC schedule. So if you're going to rag on someone for having a soft schedule you probably shouldn't have as weak or weaker of an OOC schedule. He's relying on the perceived strength of the SEC, it's not like Arkansas went out and scheduled any of these 8 ranked opponents. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) SEC coaches bitter, piling on OSUs schedule this year. Get over it. Bielema is a joke. Who is their great out of conference opponent? UT Martin? Maybe the Toledo Rockets? Or maybe he's upset he doesn't have NIU on the schedule this year? When the only ranked opponents on your schedule come from in conference, you really shouldn't talk about another team's weak schedule. I'll give Bama credit, as they seem to schedule some big OOC opponent every year, but the majority of that conference rests on the perception that they're all so great. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) My buddy just tweeted at me saying he heard people discussing this on the radio (didn't say what station) and that that tweet was meant to be for a fan...... I don't know if I buy that. I heard this interview. It was on Waddle and Silvy. Arrieta said some guy messaged him saying he didn't get a no-no because Castro's error should have been ruled a hit. Arrieta claims he thought he clicked to reply just to this one guy, and didn't realize it was going out to everyone.

Looking at this guy on BR, it won't impact the ML team. He's 29 and not good.
