The bunt call by LaRussa was definitly the right call but you can tell the whole AB Punto was uncomfortable against Nefti or however you spell his name, horrible hack he took at that last pitch. As much as I disliked Punto when he was with the Twins, I've always liked his fundamentals.Unspectacular but an effective player that does the little things. I wouldn't mind a guy like that on the White Sox roster...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 11:28 PM) Umm. So tonight Tony gets owned by Washington? LaRussa makes THE WRONG choices in the pen late. LaRussa calls for bunt in ninth; Punto can't get it down and whiffs. Managing is overrated. Players win games; Rangers won this one late. The godlike Tony got schooled by Washington. Why? Cause Texas won. I won't mention what the reax on this board woulda been if our manager called for a ninth-inning bunt and we couldn't get it down like Punto. I still think St.Louis gonna win, as long as these games are low scoring and not slugfests=advantage Cards...they should be up 2-0.

Catch All Anything Thread
I just watched the most heartbreaking video I've ever seen, a 2 year old toddler in China gets run over and while she's lying there bleeding, people walk by and nobody does anything to help her, then another car runs over her again!WTF is wrong with people! She's lying there outside a market and not one person helps her until her mother picks her up almost 8 minutes after she was first run over. Obviouslly I hope nothing but the worst for the 2 drivers as it was not a simple accident, the first driver just callously ran over her but the people that did nothing to aid her, I pray their souls rot in hell. I'm not gonna post a link to the video, it's on Youtube but it's really hard to watch. My heart goes out to that poor little kid, humanity failed you...RIP.

I dislike Tebow because of all the hype and I just don't think he'll amount to much in the NFL, we shall see now.

Tony LaRussa made all the right moves last night, Washington didn't. Low scoring games, huge aadvantage for St. Louis because it comes down to manager moves, LaRussa all day over Washington.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) Well I think you're wrong. Aside from them both being left handed, which is what triggered the initial thought in my mind, neither have good arm strength, both were mobile QBs who weren't particularly fast but had great vision, and both showed an incredible desire to win. The main differences, and they are big, are Young's ability to checkdown (which we really haven't seen from Tebow yet, but we really haven't seen Tebow yet) and their accuracy. QBs who don't have good arm strength won't succeed in Fox's system, thus, Steve Young would not have succeeded in Fox's system. They quite obviously succeed in Chan Gailey's system, so, while he may not have been as good, he would still fit the Bills offensive system. Like I mentioned, Young had years and years of tutelage under one of the greatest QBs of all time as well as an incredible quote. Tebow would have Ryan Fitzpatrick and Chan Gailey. We'll just agree to disagree, Tebow sucks, IMO, like GoSox05 posted, he's a white Vince Young, another college star player who's talents don't translate well in the NFL.Comparing him to an NFL great is a stretch.

LET'S MAKE A LIST OCTOBER '11 - FAVORITE SPORTS MOVIES
^^Great question, one of my fave movies is the Boxer with Daniel-Day Lewis, does it qualify as a sports movie? It's much more about his relationship with an old flame and her son and about the IRA than about boxing.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) Top 25 Big Lebowski quotes would be amazing. You don't even need any background info from the quote itself, just a clip to the scene of the movie. I quote so many obscure lines from that movie and people still get it immediately. "Oh, and Dude...tomorrow's already the 10th." "Far out." "..." "Ohh, right" This Walter Sobchak is one of the funniest angry characters ever, love this movie, Cohen brothers rock!

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 06:51 AM) Ha, just a little. Tebow reminds me so much of Steve Young that it's silly, but Steve Young also got to sit behind Joe Montana and work with one of the greatest football minds of all time, so he had a lot going for him. If the Bills were to acquire him in the offseason - which I think I'd honestly put at 50% right now because I know that Ralph Wilson really likes him, there were reports that the Bills were looking to move up to a similar spot to draft him, Chan Gailey would work an offense around your abilities if you threw it backwards every time, John Elway and John Fox seemingly don't like him, and there is a distinct possibility that both Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal end up changing teams in the next 48 hours leaving Tebow with virtually no weapons and, like I mentioned earlier, setting him up for failure to justify a trade to the fan base - it would be with the intention to either have him start in the next 2 seasons. If he flops in Denver, I don't know if he'll be mentally prepared for that. Hopefully he would be, because I do think he could be a great QB in this league. And, even though Fitz isn't exactly Joe Montana, he's still very smart and does a great job attacking defenses as well as he can. Tebow is nowhere near Steve Young like, not even close.

2011 World Series Thread
I was asking because I noticed some of the more knowledgable baseball people here at ST would mention that Washington makes a lot of WTF decisions, but yeah, getting to the WS twice in a row means you're doing something right and he shouldn't get fired.

2011 World Series Thread
I wonder if coming up short in two WS in a row where Texas should be the favorite again will cost Washington his job. The Cards don't bother me, I have disliked the Rangers since the Doug Rader "winning ugly" and Ryan vs Ventura debacle, plus, I don't want Dubya's team to win it all. Cards bullpen get's greedy, St. Louis in 6.
