2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) Before anyone starts talking about a new league, they are going to need to hire a bunch of attorneys to try and figure out if the players would be in breach of their playing contracts. Im just guessing here, but I cant really imagine a NBA contract not having a clause that explicitly forbids them from playing in a competitive league. But maybe the attorneys are stupid, but if they are smart there is a liquidated damages clause that states that if the player plays in a competitive league while under contract the damages are equal to the players salary. Once again I dont have the contracts, but I really doubt its as easy as finding new investors and starting a league. Or they could go to Europe like Kobe.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) You guys are ignoring the money involved, not whether TV networks would be interested. At the end of the day, creating an entire new league (which btw, will be set up by SUPERSTAR players for their own benefit...who i'm sure will be 100% in favor of sharing the revenue equally, the % of their own money used to start the league be damned) and all the money and energy and time invested in doing that, to ultimately make less money than the current deal. Why would they do that unless they just want to become investor/owners and probably do the same s*** the current owners are pulling? It's a great idea in theory, and a terrible idea in reality. The players could also try to attract investors, I'm sure there would be intrest from American, European and Asain millionaires wanting to be a part of that... The players have the upper hand, the NBA is a star driven league, no stars=no interest.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Sproles is much, much more than a return specialist. Not even on the same planet as Hester. And havent you noticed when the bears do run specific plays for Hester, they are usually blown up immediately? Either he is bad at hiding it, or the team is bad at hiding it. That's true, they hardly ever surprise the defense. I would also add that teams like GB and NO have many more weapons that the defense usually don't focus on Cobb or Sproles, making their plays more effective. We don't have that with the Bears.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 11:08 AM) Sproles and Cobb are not the same thing as Hester. Both of them know their respective positions as a running back and wide reciever, Devin is never going to truly know the WR position. He is basically a track star disguised as a football player. Cobb is going to eventually be a bigger part of Green Bays offense, he just has guys like Jones, Driver, Finley, and Jennings ahead of him in the depth chart. Sproles has been a big part of the offense in both San Diego and now NO. We have seen the Bears try to get Devin more involved, and mostly we have seen him drop wide open passes like he did last night, and run screens 10 yards in the wrong direction like he did last night. Worlds best kick returner. Thats it. Cutler, you were a man among infants last night. Omiyale should retire from the game right now citing his embarrassment at what he put you through. I diasgree, both are also return specialists, I can't believe Hester wouldn't be used more effectively by teams like GB or NO that are more creative offensively.Hester should be used in about 4-6 special plays designed for him per game, not running reciever routes on almost every offensive play.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) Right, that's what I mean. NO gets Sproles involved. I've seen GB get Cobb involved on a couple of offensive plays. I also fail to understand why Cutler isn't in the shotgun 90% of the time. If that gives him an extra second or two, how is that a bad thing? This The few times they go shotgun it's almost always with an empty backfield, keep Forte back there with Cutler you idiots!Empty backfield = pass, the D linemen pin their ears back and go after Cutler.Having Forte in a shotgun with Cutler can give him extra protection and the threat of a delayed run or a swing pass to Forte if nothing is open downfield.Again, terrible offensive schemes by our coaching staff.Everybody knows our weakness, the OL stinks, create plays that work against the opponents aggresiveness to attack our O line!

So yesterday I bought my 2 year old son his first Bears jersey, #34 , and my wife quipped that that is basically child abuse, raising him to be a Bears fan, lol. She said "let him be a Packers fan, you're just setting him up for years of frustration and failure as a Bears fan"....

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) I don't understand why the Bears can't design plays to get him the ball with some blocking. Some screens, some reverses...anything. I could just imagine how the Saints or Packers would use Hester in their offense, they would know how to use his talents effectively, unlike our sorry ass bunch.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) Can't believe i'm saying this, but it would be nice for the Bears to take down the Lions tonight. To help the Packers. From the Lions. Never thought i'd say that. F that, we will do no such thing, we'll get our asses handed to us so the Lions can keep pace with the Packers, we ain't gonna help you out, no siree Bob. P.S. I hate this Bears team...

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 9, 2011 -> 12:18 AM) Verlander threw 82 pitches. Pretty risky to bring him back on only 3 day's rest, but they might have no choice if they're down 3-0 or most likely 2-1. How many times has he gone on only 3 days in his career? Very rarely if ever, I was reading a Tigers forum where it explained that Verlander has a whole physical routine he goes through to get ready to pitch, that's why he's never gone in as relief, at least that's what that forum said.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) He was 82. Those things just happen at that age. As I said on Facebook, all of the eulogizing (not that it's happening here) of Al Davis seems almost hypocritical. It was the same thing with George Steinbrenner? Two pieces of crap who wielded absolute power and forced everyone to bend to their will. A jagoff who dies isn't suddenly a good person, just a dead jagoff. lol On a sidenote, not feeling too confident on MNF's game...hope the Bears are ready to play or it could get ugly real quick.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 07:55 AM) Stat of the Day: The last seven years, the winner of Game 1 of a Division Series has won the series 25 out of 28 times. I wish they had time to expand all rounds to best-of-7, but that's just me. And this year, 3 out the 4 teams that jumped to a 1-0 series lead eventually lost...

What's so cool about these playoffs now is that any of these last 4 teams can win, there really isn't a super favorite now that Philly and NYY are history. I'd like to see the Brewers win it all.

The morning after poll
I voted no. First thing, I loved me some Robin Ventura as a Sox player, one of a very few bright spots of the dark 90's era of the White Sox. That being out of the way, I feel he'll be unprepared for the rebuilding we are gonna be having in the south side (I agree with those who say KW isn't the GM we need to draft young talent but oh well), I wanted Dave Martinez for this reason, being there with Joe Maddon overseeing the developing of young talent the Rays have done since Maddon's tenure began. I think Ventura can develope into a decent manager, everwhere I've read has it that Ventura has a sharp baseball mind but he's gonna learn in the big stage and that's an awfully hard place to learn how to manage, I wish he would've been coaching somewhere in our farm system before taking on this job. I really hope I'm wrong but we are in for some tough times...and it will suck if Martinez is successful wherever he goes because he will be manager of a MLB club very soon.
