  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 12:58 AM) Good. I hope it continues (not that I expect it to change anything). This franchise has won a whopping 3 playoff series since Jordan's last shot in Utah. The front office has failed miserably in building another winner. The critisicm is deserved. +1 I don't know about the timing so much but someone needs to light a fire under their unimaginative asses. The Lakers FO struck a deal that got them Gasol for nothing and you know Wade was working LBJ while he was under contract with Riley's blessing. You can also add to that how the Lakers almost snatched CP3 and then went out and got Howard (yeah, he's been hurt but when healthy he's the best big man in the league). That's what FOs that want to win do...
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) Magic+Isaiah would still be dominant today. No doubt, I think that goes without saying.
  3. I get that the PG position is deeper than ever but prime Tim Hardaway, KJ, Mark Jackson, Penny Hardaway, Gary Payton etc would still be causing major damage in today's NBA (maybe even more so). Mark Jackson would be considered a top 5 post up player nowadays and that's not a slight at Jackson, just goes to show you how much the post up game has sucked in recent years.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 11:39 AM) I just don't want a team with a bickering superstar and FO, with the star claiming innocence while having his "people" make all the public comments ripping the team. Then have that FO panic and make a bunch of stupid moves in a failed attempt to please the spoiled-child superstar. I don't recall that working out too well for the Magic or Cavs. It worked for Kobe...but then again, it was the Lakers. But yeah, it usually doesn't lead to good things.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) That was just sick last night. I'm starting to think he's the best 2 in the game. I'd still take Wade, Harden is just not a good defender.
  6. QUOTE (BlackJack @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) Chris Broussard ‏@Chris_Broussard I'm told Bulls definitely not moving Boozer & unlikely to do anything Chris Broussard ‏@Chris_Broussard One exec involved in talks w/ATL for J Smith now saying "50/50 chance he gets traded." That's a downgrade from yesterday I watched J Smith last night against the Heat, played a nice game dishing out dimes, real nice passes. Of course he took dumb 3pters but really other than that, played a nice all around game. He is talented but not at the price he's asking for.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) Tiger Woods on golf. But that depends on your definition of major American sports. Maybe Dale Earnhardt and Nascar? MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL. You can include MLS but I don't know if it's that popular. Tiger Woods is a good example but NBA popularity>>>>>PGA Golf.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) It should tell you something about the popularity of today's NBA when a guy who retired 10 years ago gets this much attention, just for his birthday. I can't see this happening in any other sport. Or it could tell you how much of an impact that player had in the overall popularity of the league that they do all that for his 50th birthday... Name me a player that has had MJ's impact and overall world popularity the last 25 years in the other major American sports leagues. No one is even close.
  9. Over/under on when this contract will start to officially be labeled "a horrible albatross"...under 3 years is my bet. Good for him, though.
  10. The NCAA is making a killing on the backs of impoverished kids who, let's face, really don't care to earn a college degree and are trying to make it to the NBA. Most will never get a degree (and most college coaches couldn't care less) nor make to the NBA. Compensate them monetarily for the boatloads of cash their bringing in. That's why I don't care for college basketball, it's a big scam taking advantage of mostly poor black kids, IMO
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 09:38 AM) Jay Williams... Bulls got high before games in his day http://tracking.si.com/2013/02/10/jay-will.../?xid=ob_blogs# That explains a lot of things...
  12. I'm in the overcatious on Rose camp, I get that physically, he's probably ready to go but I just don't trust Thibs on player's minutes. That's my only complaint on Thibs, awesome coach other than that. If Rose is not there mentally, let him work his way in until he's comfortable with his body, IMO. Regardless, really, what are the chances anyone is going to beat LeBron in a 7 game series this year? MAYBE the Thunder, that's it.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) Looking at some research, the re-injury rate for ANYONE who gets ACL repair in the span of 5 or more years post-surgery is about 5%. Odds are already good, then consider that Derrick is a world class athlete with all kinds of resources and a far more vigorous rehabilitation than your average guy. Basketball isn't as unkind to ACL's as some other sports as well. From the looks of it, it seems that his chances of re-injury are about the same that he injured it the first time -- always possible, but not likely. Thanx, good to know that...I was always under the impression that a surgically repaired knee was more prone to reinjury, glad that's not the case.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) I feel bad for Knox. Best of luck to him. ................
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) I'm not worried about Derrick. Reinjury is almost unheard of at this point. It wouldn't blow my mind if he gets nicked up in other ways here and there from being out of playing shape, though. Pardon my ignorance on this but what do you mean by that? Reinjuring the knee he wrecked last year is what has me worried. It's rare to reinjure a surgically repaired knee?
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 11, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) I dont know, Detlef Schrempf had some mad handles and he was 6'10" Toni Kukoc
  17. QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 9, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) When people say that I think they generally refer to the early portion of the 90s. Pre-expansion. There was still running at the time and you had wing players like Jordan, Drexler, (and to an extent Barkley, who was a post player that could play on the wing). You had good PGs in Hardaway, Stockton, Price, and KJ. Then to top it off it was the golden era for centers. Are there any all time great centers today? How about power forwards? The game is pretty unbalanced for wing players. I do agree that it has become pretty entertaining because there are tons of storylines now, but I don't think people will ever stop saying that "everything NBA was better in the 90's" because it will always hold true. Using 1998 as your example isn't really fair to the 90s. Maybe watch some of the early Knicks-Bulls series, or some of the early Bulls finals. You see guys like Richard Dumas (for Phoenix) running the floor and making no-look passes or going behind his back for layups. The guy averaged 16 points as a rookie and I had never even heard of him until I re-watched some old games. Look up his highlights if you get a chance. Look, I'm only 25, so I should be biased towards today's era, but having watched a ton of old film I just can't do it. It was just a superior product. The NBA was more fundamentally sound in the 90s, it's more athletic today. I guess it depends on what you prefer.
  18. I wanted to post this in the 12-13 NFL thread but it got closed. Just one last thought on the Ravens, they are a perfect example of why making it to the playoffs is so important, anything can happen, they beat 3 teams that most of the experts at one point or another in the season considered the best team in football. They were the underdog in every game except against the Colts. It's all about playing your best at the right time. OK, on to next season...GO BEARS!
  19. I guess we can expect to not see SOXOBAMA for a while here, lol
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 07:12 PM) Beyonce is an attractive woman. Thank you captain obvious
  21. Somewhere in IL, SOXOBAMA is s***ting bricks right now...
  22. Ha, so SOXOBAMA was BSing the whole time, who the hell creates a fake internet persona to impress a bunch of people you'll never meet in real life? Damn, that's just sad, and I was actually defending this dude...FP. Kudos to the detectives here at ST, don't lie or you will get exposed! lol
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 08:11 AM) A while back, a bunch of the 49ers players participated in one of the "It gets better" anti-LGBT-bullying videos. After their gay bashing CB came out, they were asked about that video by the USA Today, and 2 of the players in it denied ever participating or claimed they didn't know what they were doing or claimed it was just a generic anti-bullying video. F*** it. Go Ravens. Yeah, I'm sure the Ravens make it a policy to only include players who are pro LGBT...
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 08:20 AM) SoxTalk is known for its unbridled optimism in all things Chicago sports Exactimundo, you could see alot of it over at the NBA thread with the almost over the top mancrush exhibited on a certain player wearing the number 1 of a certain team of a certain city...hint; he's in my sig pic, lol
