  1. QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 9, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) When people say that I think they generally refer to the early portion of the 90s. Pre-expansion. There was still running at the time and you had wing players like Jordan, Drexler, (and to an extent Barkley, who was a post player that could play on the wing). You had good PGs in Hardaway, Stockton, Price, and KJ. Then to top it off it was the golden era for centers. Are there any all time great centers today? How about power forwards? The game is pretty unbalanced for wing players. I do agree that it has become pretty entertaining because there are tons of storylines now, but I don't think people will ever stop saying that "everything NBA was better in the 90's" because it will always hold true. Using 1998 as your example isn't really fair to the 90s. Maybe watch some of the early Knicks-Bulls series, or some of the early Bulls finals. You see guys like Richard Dumas (for Phoenix) running the floor and making no-look passes or going behind his back for layups. The guy averaged 16 points as a rookie and I had never even heard of him until I re-watched some old games. Look up his highlights if you get a chance. Look, I'm only 25, so I should be biased towards today's era, but having watched a ton of old film I just can't do it. It was just a superior product. The NBA was more fundamentally sound in the 90s, it's more athletic today. I guess it depends on what you prefer.
  2. I wanted to post this in the 12-13 NFL thread but it got closed. Just one last thought on the Ravens, they are a perfect example of why making it to the playoffs is so important, anything can happen, they beat 3 teams that most of the experts at one point or another in the season considered the best team in football. They were the underdog in every game except against the Colts. It's all about playing your best at the right time. OK, on to next season...GO BEARS!
  3. I guess we can expect to not see SOXOBAMA for a while here, lol
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 07:12 PM) Beyonce is an attractive woman. Thank you captain obvious
  5. Somewhere in IL, SOXOBAMA is s***ting bricks right now...
  6. Ha, so SOXOBAMA was BSing the whole time, who the hell creates a fake internet persona to impress a bunch of people you'll never meet in real life? Damn, that's just sad, and I was actually defending this dude...FP. Kudos to the detectives here at ST, don't lie or you will get exposed! lol
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 08:11 AM) A while back, a bunch of the 49ers players participated in one of the "It gets better" anti-LGBT-bullying videos. After their gay bashing CB came out, they were asked about that video by the USA Today, and 2 of the players in it denied ever participating or claimed they didn't know what they were doing or claimed it was just a generic anti-bullying video. F*** it. Go Ravens. Yeah, I'm sure the Ravens make it a policy to only include players who are pro LGBT...
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 08:20 AM) SoxTalk is known for its unbridled optimism in all things Chicago sports Exactimundo, you could see alot of it over at the NBA thread with the almost over the top mancrush exhibited on a certain player wearing the number 1 of a certain team of a certain city...hint; he's in my sig pic, lol
  9. Oh you doubting Thomases! edit:This post was meant to follow J4L's...
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 12:53 PM) Please refer to post 8011 Well, he did say the Packers wouldn't win the North the next 3 years and I took it as hating because you can hardly predict what will happen next year let alone 3 years from now...and my post was also tongue in cheek. I'm not getting on him for his 49ers homer posts, let him be, it's not every year your favorite team plays for a title. But anyways, I'm not his lawyer so whatevah
  11. Come on guys, give SOXOBAMA a break. So he's all giddy about his team's chances at winning the SuperBowl, is that so bad? If the Bears were in the SuperBowl right now, we all would be posting stuff like he is. Don't take it so seriously, sheeeeeeesh
  12. We have enough defense, we need offense in the draft.
  13. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) Who's hating on the Packers? Its an opinion. Packers D sucks they have no running game will lose 2 Wr's (Jennings and Driver) But their offense is so good that even a little bit of improvement from their D and they are SB favorites again next year. The Vikings have a bigger hill to climb, they have a decent D, great running back and average QB at best. If the Bears can mantain their D and improve our O, we have a better shot than the Vikes but GB should be favored to win the North again.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) Why is that? Hating
  15. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 11:37 AM) Aaron Rodgers. What separates him from Favre is not turning the ball over. Rodgers almost never throws it to the other team. He has only had one of passes brought back for a TD. It was in his first year, I think. He only averages 9 INT a year over his career. Prime Favre was a beast, killed us almost every time from the early 90s to the mid 2000s but yeah, I agree with your analysis. Rodgers just doesn't give you a chance at a pick. A really intelligent QB. It's just so unfair that you guys go from Favre to Rodgers Even Majkowski (hope I spelled that correctly) and Dickey were decent QBs before Brett. OTOH, had we drafted Rodgers, we probably would have ruined his career by now
  16. Speaking of Favre, GoSox05, who in your opinion is/was the better QB? Prime Favre or current Rodgers?
  17. Don't know if it's been mentioned on American ESPN (I get Latin America's edition down here) but if the 49ers win on Sunday, a team of each NFC division will have won a SB the last four years. New Orleans from the South, Green Bay from the North and the Giants from the East. Excuse this post if it already has been mentioned ad naseum on ESPN, which I imagine it has but just in case it hasn't...
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) full contact link? NM, found it
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) I love everyone hating on SOXOBAMA for going to a bunch of events. Let the dude have his fun - he clearly isn't on Facebook to brag about these things so Soxtalk is his outlet. I'm just busting his balls a bit, but yeah, dude is living like a high rollah.
  20. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) Media Day was pretty crazy... I got the chance to meet several Niners players. Also, Ed Reed is such a great guy.
  21. Ha, RZZZA left with a bang. Dude loved trolling, won't be missed.
  22. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 12:18 PM) I sold a 49 merc for a good profit, that is how I was able to buy Super Bowl tickets. Coincidence?
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) I feel like I go into some kind of trance whenever I watch Kevin Durant play. I've watched at least 20 Thunder games this year. And I stop whatever the f*** I'm doing, including masturbating, when this 24-year old man is on my flat-screen. He's having arguably the single greatest season from an offensive efficiency standpoint the game has ever seen. f*** all that the game is easier for wings/guards, etc. Some of that's true. But there's certain aspects of the game today that dwarfs the 80's/90's, let alone the garbage 60's, when Bill Russell was a beast (scouting, athleticism, etc). I can appreciate how supportive/enthusiastic most of the Bulls fans here are. I can also appreciate what the Bulls have done this year without their superstar. But at the end of the day, this league belongs to LeBron and Durant. They are so much better than everybody else else in the game today, it's not close. Both the Heat/Thunder aren't going anywhere for quite a while. Too bad we couldn't land a Rose/Thibs back in 2002 when it would've mattered. I can see them battling each other for the NBA title a la Larry's Celtics vs Magic's Lakers the next half dozen years.
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 08:32 PM) ...and boom. ...goes the dynamite! I never understood the "players today are bigger, faster and stronger than in MJ's era" argument. As if Jordan played 50 years ago. Yeah, sports medicine and modern nutrition and sports science has helped modern players in those areas but humans don't evolve every generation, that's just crazy talk. If you look at the top 20 NBA players today and compare them to 1990's top 20, you ain't gonna see a difference in size, strength and speed. As if Carmelo Anthony is a way superior athlete to Scottie Pippen, for example. lol
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) Because now the league has 6'10" freaks like Kevin Durant who can run with anyone and score from anywhere past half court. Baloney Gimme a prime KAJ over Durant anyday. A great center is the anchor of the defensr, grabs rebounds on the O and D and if he got offensive skills, is the most offensively efficient position. Even in today's game, if KAJ were 18 years old today, GMs would be chomping at the bit to draft him. and to JFL, I know you hate Russell, no one mentioned him here, lol
