QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 12:33 AM) So then who is in CF and who leads off? Anderson and Getz I presume? Nah, BA in CF and Lillibridge leading off from 2B
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 11:19 PM) I do agree that he could be a starter. However, I'd be shocked if Alexei is moved to CF. I have (my boy) Lillibridge penciled in for 2B. I also don't see Alexei moved unless a Furcal-like SS falls into our laps

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) You hit it on the head. Keeping Uribe around as the utility man instead of some of the current names being thrown around would be great. Who knows, perhaps a Josh Fields, Twig Boy, or 12 ML career AB's fall during the course of the season. Then what? Wilson f***in' Betemit? Keep Uribe, he'll probably come cheap, and has proven himself. Wilson Betemit has over 1000 MLB at bats. and is younger, in-better shape, and has a more fluid approch to hitting then Uribe does. Why would we bring in Uribe when we have Getz, Lillibridge, Betemit, Nix and even John Shelby who could provide similiar production?

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 10:32 PM) Do you get royalties every time you suggest Lillibridge is a starter? Wait, should i??? I do enough rallying for the kid i ought to. My support is of the healthy kind.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) The problem is that Taveras just MIGHT be the best option out of all the worst-case scenarios out there. Jerry Owens also has a better than 50/50 shot at not getting the job done or staying healthy. Anderson can't lead off. Wise isn't a CFer. Are you in the lead off with Getz/Lillibridge (2B) and put Anderson at 9th in the order camp? While i don't think we can discount Anderson leading off it becomes a necessity. I'm in the Lillibridge leading off with BA in the 9 hole camp.

Garland burned some bridges leaving the first time. I doubt he'd be on the top of KW's list of people to bring back.

Kenny's Big Board revisited - Holiday Edition!
ThunderBolt replied to ILMOU's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 08:21 PM) Gone are the days of Adam Russell Adam Russell is going to be in the bullpen this year, and from the looks of it will have to carry a decent weight. -
Haeger? Seriously? Hasn't that ship sailed and sunk?

Kenny's Big Board revisited - Holiday Edition!
ThunderBolt replied to ILMOU's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) it will be hard to trade Konerko and his NTC. That's all. Think they'll manage if they're really out of it. -
Kenny's Big Board revisited - Holiday Edition!

IF we're out of contention by the deadline Konerko and Dye will be gone. That's all i'll speculate about at this point -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) But are you so confident in Pie that you'd trade Owens and/or Anderson, not sign Taveras, and hand him the starting job in CF? I'd be fine with trading Owens and not signing Taveras and having Pie compete with Anderson going into spring training. Pie's upside as a hitter is exponentially bigger then that of Taveras and Owens combined.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) I'd rather have Pie than Gathright and Taveras. Pie + Anderson would be awesome options in CF.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) If we get Willy T, then you get Jerry Owens with a better arm and a recovering broken leg. woo. hoo. And a worse OBP. YAYYYY!!!!
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:01 AM) Right, because Jerry Owens, who's actually older than Taveras, is a much better option. They're both bad ballplayers, but having both Taveras and Owens on the same team decreases the chance of a better option (like BA) getting the role. The idea is to lessen the chance of Ozzie falling in love with another speed guy.

I just started playing MLB 2k8, and after the masterpiece that is MVP 2005 it’s a significant downgrade. Hopefully, the game grows on me. I’m just really excited for 2012 when EA gets its baseball license back.

Let's just hope the Reds like Taveras more then we do.

I came to this thread with every intention of making a Brian Anderson joke. I see that this has been done for me.

Blackhawks step up for Dale Tallon
ThunderBolt replied to scenario's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) Very touching story. Should be read by everyone, even people who aren't hockey fans. This is just an insanely mature and lovely thing for a team of guys this young to do. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) Mike Powers, the agent for right-hander Daniel Cabrera, said he received calls from five clubs on the pitcher between midnight and 12:30 Saturday. Cabrera, 27, became a free agent at midnight after the Orioles declined to offer him a contract. Powers said he has heard from more than 10 clubs on Cabrera and received two offers. Numerous major-league scouts are expected to be in attendance Tuesday night when Cabrera pitches in the Dominican winter league. Cabrera's velocity dropped from 96 to 99 mph to 88 to 91 in September, one scout says, raising concerns that he might be injured. Powers, however, said that his client is fine. from foxsports.com Not sure the Sox are up for a bidding war. Could put Cabrera off the table. Which is probably a good thing.

Is Joey Gathright the next Willy Taveras?
ThunderBolt replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Score has the Cubs signing Gathright. So, Taveras is back to being the next Willy Taveras -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) The only thing I don't get is the sox are preaching young, youth, kids, etc.. It absolutely makes no sense to basically get another outfielder basically the same age as Dye regardless if he's the better hitter when they are trying to dump the high contracts. Personally, I'm not buying this. It's contingent on a Dye Trade. The thought process is Bailey + Prospect + Abreu> Dye.

Iraqi "journalist" throws shoes at Bush

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) GWB is as unfit for command now as he was when he stole the election in 2000. Wow, it’s good to see liberals in this post-Obama world are still as bitter and politically uniformed as they were prior. It’s going to suck in 9 months when you can’t blame a thing on GW, isn’t it? -
Abreu wants an insane amount of money. Doesn't look like an option for a rebuilding team. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8945572...-Angels-uniform

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) LaRoche has played 11 games at 2B in his entire professional career. I don't think that means he can play it. Doesn't mean he can't does it? How does telling me he only played a 11 games there, refute my point? Clearly. the Pirates think he can play the position, as he has played that position, 11 times.
