Rumor: Reinsdorf aims to build second place teams
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I gotcha. I agree with that. He knew what the reaction would be initially. Samson is a pud. Nobody has disputed that. I just don't think it's appropriate to shoot the messenger in this case. Jerry Reinsdorf hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt. -
Rumor: Reinsdorf aims to build second place teams

Sounded fine to me. He has known Reinsdorf since he was a kid. He basically said it was an "anti-tanking" thing. He made it seem like Reinsdorf's plan was to finish 1st if possible but not worse than 2nd because it kept the fanbase hungry and thinking there was a chance for improvement. He said that Reinsdorf like most owners, wouldn't choose winning over making money or breaking even though. Reinsdorf has always wanted to win on his terms at his profit margins. Samson basically just confirmed that. -

I'm pretty sure they are getting like $1 million per game -
Rumor: Reinsdorf aims to build second place teams

David Samson is a piece of crap but i wouldn't shoot the messenger in this case. There isn't a doubt in my mind that Reinsdorf told Samson that. He apparently told Jack McDowell the same thing. 670 talked about it this morning in the 5 at 5. They're trying to get Jack McDowell on. Reinsdorf didn't deny any of it either. I hope this blows up this week. The only reason Reinsdorf responded in the first place is because Scott Reifert received tons of e-mails from pissed off fans after the audio leaked. The PR machine is in total spin control right now. -
1st round picks are off limits for compensation now. The White Sox pick 11th and won't have as large of a bonus pool. That's the only "issue" though. The 11th pick should carry a bonus pool of around $4.6 million. The White Sox total should be in the $8.5 million range for their entire class. They spent over $12 million on last year's draft. The 2nd round selection should be in the 54-56 range and carries a slot of like $1.2-$1.4 million. If they sign a QO free agent, they'll forfeit that selection and the bonus pool amount that comes with it.

Adam Engel improved a lot after going down to AAA and working with Frank Menechino. Every player that we talked to at Charlotte or that went through there raved about Menechino. He knows how to optimize swings and he preaches plate discipline. He was in Miami with Stanton, Ozuna and Yelich as well. I'd be totally fine if Menechino is the guy but I bet they employ two hitting coaches next year.

There absolutely is. The Sox coveted Andrew Benintendi in 2015. They would have drafted Jo Adell in 2017. It's imperative to get as high of a pick as possible.
-
I didn't write an article on JD Martinez to speculate FWIW. If he becomes a free agent, the White Sox will be interested.
-
They arent signing Gerrit Cole.
-
I'm sure they'll spend on older prospects. Probably some guys from Cuba. This organization is so averse to risk when it comes to 16-year-old signings. The biggest bonus ever is like $1.6 million still I believe.
-
I would be totally fine with the Sox giving JD Martinez 5/100 right now. He's a multiplier. He's a great hitter and makes other hitters better. I just want him around all the Sox younger hitters on a consistent basis. The contract would pay for itself. I was very impressed with Martinez after reading Astroball and The MVP machine.

Mike Shirley or Nathan Durst would be my guess.

74K in just over 50IP as a 16-year-old is nice.
-
Another outside the box candidate that might not seem outside the box very soon is Danny Farquhar.
-
No. We'd love to have one but I've never heard of anyone attending those games.

WTF? Vaughn has like an .860 OPS in High A after playing a college season. He's fine and will and should start in AA.

Sox Hire Ryan Johansen to PD staff // stat based hitting coach
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ryan Johansen and Matt Lisle were both Chris Getz hires. Getz and Hostetler have done some really nice things even though the Sox are behind the times. It's better late than never. -
I think this is too strong. I don't agree with their strategy but calling it a joke is wrong. Paddy signed Micker Adolfo, Fernando Tatis Jr and Luis Robert. They have multiple intriguing $300K signings recently. I wish they took bigger chances on 16-year-olds but they just don't.
-
They needed a corner guy in Kanny and didn't want to move Harvin Mendoza to play part time is my guess.
-
Yep that'd be him. He was bad starting at Texas Tech but looked great in relief on the cape.
-
Nick Hostetler loves Caleb Freeman. Talked about him similarly to how he's mentioned Ian Hamilton and Codi Heuer in the past. He's a guy to watch.
-
He could be put on the list. None of us decided to rank a 26-year-old definite DH though.

Lindgren is Rule 5 eligible

Any surprises in here, guys?

LOL okay. You aren't worth my time. Choose to be misinformed if you'd like.
