100%. But maybe this started off as the Sox looking for a way to get the comp pick and then us & the Pirates (or another team) gradually worked out a major trade with more pieces including Gonzalez.

I tend to lean your way as I don’t think front offices are worrying about major league trades the night before the draft. That being said, if there is a trade going down with Gonzalez, it likely involves a comp pick and other stuff.

Top 20 Prospects (Pre Draft)
Thanks for sharing! Like you have guys that all make sense in the top 10, but didn’t just go chalk. I have been pleasantly surprised with Sandlin and can see the argument for rating him higher than I had.

That would be better than just the pick.

100% is was. Still no idea why he changed it.

That would be a terrible trade unless there was a fuckton more coming back.

Top 20 Prospects (Pre Draft)
I feel you. Definitely don’t look at his ACL numbers if you want to feel good ranking him in the top 10. Ultimately, I placed a greater emphasis on his 2025 performance and didn’t feel awful about his ranking given the guys behind him.

Top 20 Prospects (Pre Draft)
Also, I will add doing this list was incredibly challenging. I feel very confident in my ranking of the first seven guys, but after that it was a complete crapshoot. I kept feeling like I was missing someone important, but just kept coming up with a bunch of guys all in the same general tier. There is another half dozen dudes that could probably be ranked anywhere in the 15th to 25th range IMO. And I thought very hard about slotting in some DSL guys at the end of this list, but ultimately chose against it. Someone like Romero is doing well, but I can’t put a prospect who got a $1.5M bonus in the top 20 solely on DSL numbers. He would certainly be in the next five guys though. Candidly speaking, this hasn’t been a great year for the system outside of a handful of success stories.

Top 20 Prospects (Pre Draft)
With the draft tomorrow I figured it was time for an updated Top 20 list to help visualize the state of the farm system. For this exercise, I will be excluding anyone currently on the major league roster, so Schultz & Braden won’t be listed here despite eligibility. Caleb Bonemer, IF Billy Carlson, SS Jaden Fauske, OF Hagen Smith, LHP Tanner McDougal, RHP David Sandlin, RHP Gabe Davis, RHP Christian Oppor, LHP George Wolkow, OF Mason Adams, RHP William Bergolla, IF Blake Larson, LHP Ky Bush, LHP Boston Smith, CA Colby Shelton, IF Mathias Lacombe, RHP Pierce George, RHP Javier Mogollon, 2B Matthew Baughton, IF Wikelman Gonzalez, RHP

FWIW, Josh Nelson over at Sox Machine is suggesting the latest into has us drafting Roch. He personally wants Emerson.

After the recent play, is the smart move to sell instead of buy?
Fully agree. Pereira has flashed some ability, but appears to be made of glass. Hays has never really been on the field so not sure what he even offers.

After the recent play, is the smart move to sell instead of buy?
Yup, getting a Gage Ziehl prospect in exchange for weakening a currently playoff bound team seems crazy to me.

I feel some here don’t watch the games. Dude was our best hitter the last two weeks and it showed.

Makes perfect sense when it’s a team full of controllable young players. There are a handful of vets with limited control, but none of them are overly valuable.

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
FWIW, Collazo at BA said he’d have Roch in the top 10 and pushing for top 5 and Emerson top 15 to 20. I’d assume that would be Roch above Bonemer at minimum.

Yeah, that would be fantastic. I wonder how much value those guys would put on being part of a Sox org that (unfairly or not) will provide some level of preferential treatment given their fathers being members of the front office.

Dollars wise it feels like it could be doable if we can get Contreras a bit cheaper than the $3M you referenced. Honestly, I really want us to take two high ceiling prep arms tomorrow. For me, the draft is all about upside and there is a nice group of HS arms that fit to the billing in this class. As much as college arm could help the major league team faster, I don’t want to settle for safety or proximity with our day 1 picks.
