  1. I know Burke remains inconsistent, but he’s a very productive starter over his last nine starts. Still a work in progress but has shown significant signs of improvement.
  2. That might end up being true, and honestly, I’m very open to a lot more platooning than Rick Hahn ever did. I’d still give Baldwin a shot against LHP until we are more serious about winning though. I not quite ready to write him off as a platoon guy yet.
  3. I think he’s a prototypical Dodgers UT guy in that he plays everyday, but can move around based on the needs of the team.
  4. It would be insane if they didn’t, especially post deadline when we should have gaping holes in the OF.
  5. Dude will be a 2 to 3 win guy with some growth and enough playing time.
  6. I actually think it’s a pretty good list. There’s eight top 100 caliber prospects at the top of it (including several high ceiling ones) plus a bunch of other arms (many who could be SPs) and infielders. Honestly, this is the deepest I ever remember a list being, although the list will be radically different by the end of this season with graduations. I think the relief prospects are simply ranked too high and should be in the 20 to 30 range. The real problem is the lack of power and OF talent. I get the notion that up the middle prospects can “play anywhere” but at some point you need guys with legit power that can fill holes at 1B, DH, & LF. I know it won’t be a popular opinion, but it’s an area we have completely underinvested in since the rough patch where we took Collins, Burger, Vaughn, & Sheets with 1st and 2nd round picks.
  7. I have no idea how Iriarte can be top 10 at this point.
  8. Just saw his numbers the other day…insane how much things clicked for him this year. Don’t think he was ever on the table Cease though.
  9. Rosenthal has claimed the Sox are willing to eat money to enhance a Robert return.
  10. He’s actually had a real solid season and should be movable. He’s one of the guys who could push us above my over-under target of five players moved (corrected from six).
  11. I’m sure you’re right on it just being old fashioned Rick Hahn fluff, but I will be mad if someone like Slater is still around come Aug 2nd. Doubt that will be the case, but just want my pitchfork on ready in the unlikely event it does.
  12. lol…it’s definitely what I would do as I don’t really care about the 1/1000 chance our starting catcher goes down with an injury and we lose our DH for a game.
  13. I do agree that we should wait and see how they handle playing time after the deadline before assuming too much. I like Sosa despite his flaws, but there is reason to believe he doesn’t fit the Getz mold and Harold’s commentary seems to support that. As such, they could be showcasing him a bit to prove he can handle 2B without being a total disaster there.
  14. If he doesn’t work there, he doesn’t really work anywhere. Dude gets the most of his natural raw power, but he does not profile as a legit 1B / DH in my opinion.
  15. Yeah, not a bad lineup. Would like to see the following post trade deadline: Meidroth, SS Teel, C/DH* Vargas, 1B Benintendi, LF* Sosa, 2B Montgomery, 3B* Quero, DH/CA Robertson, RF* Baldwin, CF#
  16. Robert is getting traded guys. I don’t want to try to police what people can post about here, but debating the merits of extending Robert is an exercise in futility. Jerry doesn’t want to pay him, the front office has lost confidence in him, and he now has Scott Boras as his agent. Unless he gets injured or suspended in the next 10 days, he will not end the season on the White Sox.
  17. Exactly. My point is that Getz & Barfield better be active and trade these guys for whatever they can. Probably won’t get a lot in return for most of these guys, but part of a GM’s job is taking as many swings as possible at the trade deadline when your team is a loser. The only way a guy like Slater returns nothing is because you go in with too high of demands. Take what you can get for him and use the last two months of the season to give the kids and AAAA types like Robertson a shot. There is zero excuse for not moving rentals who actually are productive players.
  18. No, cash considerations would basically be a nothing.
  19. See…this is exactly what I’m talking about. You refer to a guy who is currently 36% above league average against LHP as being “Sox fodder”. There are 295 players who have over 45 plate appearances against lefties this season and Slater ranks 64th amongst in wRC+. He’s right around the 80th percentile against LHP despite some bad batted ball luck this year and he has an incredibly strong track record against them to suggest it’s not a mirage. Factor in good corner OF defense and solid base-running and you have an attractive weak-side platoon OF that would be an upgrade for many teams. Him playing for the Sox doesn’t change any of that.
  20. That’s all my point is. Slater is a useful player who costs almost nothing money wise. Someone will be willing to give up something for him. Probably won’t be something all that special, but we should be taking wherever we can for him at this point given his lack of control. For whatever reason, Barfield was downplaying the likelihood of us making a lot of moves, which theoretically means we’re overplaying how much leverage we have in these convos. The reality is all the rental players should be traded for whatever you can get. Wilson has a couple years of control left, but I’d look to cash in now if I can get something of value for him because relievers are volatile and his track is far from sparkling. Tauchman is another possible exception where I need a piece above pure lottery ticket status to move him because of the his additional year of control, but we’re all probably taking a prospect in a system’s 16 to 25 range.
  21. Yeah, I’m going to give it more than 30 plate appearances before I believe Vaughn is suddenly transformed. Dude had multiple holes in his offensive game, and even if the Brewers found a way to tap into his power more, no way did they teach him how to stop chasing pitches outside the zone in a month.
  22. Post draft rankings: CWS’ Top 20 List: Noah Schultz, LHP Kyle Teel, CA Braden Montgomery, OF Hagen Smith, LHP Billy Carlson, SS Caleb Bonemer, SS Colson Montgomery, SS Grant Taylor, RHP Drew Thorpe, RHP Jaden Fauske, OF George Wolkow, OF Bryan Ramos, 3B Tanner McDougal, RHP Mason Adams, RHP Ky Bush, LHP Christian Oppor, LHP Sam Antonacci, 2B William Bergola, SS Jacob Gonzalez, SS Jeral Perez, 2B
  23. Thanks! He’s under 50 total innings pitched, so I believe he’s still eligible for prospect status under Baseball America’s methodology but technically would not have rookie status anymore to exceeding 45 days of service time.
