QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) Exactly, she completely disregards an order from an officer when she picks him up and takes him with. This is the exact same type of basic disobedience that is used as justification for a lot of force. See video above where man has given information, is talking normally with another officer, is refusing to go out of the car after having a gun pointed at him by the officer, the officers response is to break the window and tase him. These are situations where nothing is explicitly wrong, but one is handled well and the other poorly. I can see the response now if this women was in a poor neighborhood and dragged down and injured "She was motioning threateningly with her hands and started coming at the officer. The officer was scared and took down in self-defense" And everyone would say "Why did she not stop when they said to?" Would she have stopped if they told her to? Not justifying the obvious poor actions of other police officers, but the situations are kind of apples and oranges.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) That she receives or that she gives? I don't see anything wrong with how the cops handled her either, they told her why the stopped the guy, which again, seems reasonable. I agree with the fact that it's nice to see someone tell the cops the law and not take their crap. He's saying they didn't use any force against her because she was white. I think he would generally agree with the way the police handled the situation.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 12:51 PM) That is not correct fully. Sox draft allotment was 9,509,700. The 5% cap was at $9,985,184.99 One penny more, and they lost a draft pick. The Sox spent 9,984,600. They were $584.99 under losing a draft pick. Another $40k costs them a pick. Would getting $40k less have precluded Rodon from signing? I doubt it. I'm happy with the draft either way, though.

Self operated in the gray area at Illinois. Self operates in the gray area at Kansas. Good coaches do. Every program has terrible fans who accuse all other programs for being dirty. It amuses me how much people like to hate Illinois. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) That is basically 25 years ago now. Things have changed since then. Yes, before I was born. Happen to know how good Northwestern was during that timespan? I think things have changed with regard to their program. I understand what you're saying, but it's not impossible to be successful at Illinois. As you might say, things can change. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) Illinois actually has a pretty decent football history, including multiple national titles. Thats someting Wisconsin cant claim. Between 1980-1991 Illinois was 62-35-3 in Big Ten play. Then came 20 years of bad coaches and weak administration. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) Actually my exact words were set up for failure and dead end job. Nothing here has changed that. That didn't stop Wisconsin or Northwestern (or Memphis) from hiring decent coaches when they were dumpster fires. Believe it or not, you can be successful at Illinois. The last two coaches ended up as failures because they just weren't good coaches. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) That part makes sense. If he is that good, won't a better program want him? This is why you need to get in on him early before the bigger and better programs come knocking or before any of the bigger and better jobs are open. There's no guarantees that he'd be interested, but it can be hard to turn down a $2 million salary. Especially, if you think you can turn around any program since you just turned around a program in worse shape than Illinois. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) I think I'mjumping on the Justin Fuente bandwagon for Illinois. I'm with you. Loved pretty much everything he said in this article on rebuilding. He got his start at ISU, and Memphis when he took over was in worse shape than Illinois is right now. We might have a shot at him if we get on him early enough, before the Floridas and Michigans start hiring away from the middle tier programs. -

Hopefully, they fire Beckman sooner rather than later; he's done. A name I've seen thrown around a bit lately has been Justin Fuente at Memphis, and I think he could be a great outside the box type of hire, should we miss out on the Harbaugh sweepstakes. As an added bonus, he'd be a minority hire, which would hopefully stop any more discussion on that front from the BOT. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) Officially on the fire Beckman train now, this is pathetic. Wishful thinking, but if they can find a way to throw enough money at Chuck Martin to fix this dumpster fire I'd be ecstatic. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) That's just a guess. He has to be the back-up plan if they don't get Thomas or Moore. Moore btw seems like Kentucky all the way. Not a good sign that he canceled his official. You can take this for what it's worth, but I heard that Kentucky hired somebody to a position that might not even allow them to recruit him. Given that they are also recruiting several other highly ranked players, they may not ever bother. -

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) Do not remember that at all, nice catch. As for Thomas, just read that a couple insiders have heard he's saying different things publicly than what he's saying privately about who leads. Got to imagine Oklahoma State is selling him on playing him with Evans and Gilder. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) I'm sure he'd be batter than Tate So we should just take Tate's scholarship away? Is he better than Coleman? I know basically nothing about him (he looks to be from California?), but I don't want Groce to take him just because he's from Chicago. We owe nothing to Chicago recruits just like they owe nothing to us. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) It's about how multiple raters grade the impact of each player on each and every play. So each rater watches each player for each down and assigns a numeric value to what they did that play - most plays, a player gets 0. If there is disagreement on a given play, they have to work it out. The reason Alshon's grade is low, now that I'm looking, is because he fumbled. Marshall gets a poor grade for having a drop and Cutler's general lack of success passing to him. Grading defense is going to involve fewer concrete numbers, but they still use concrete criteria. Run D is going to involve doing things that affect the run game - did Bostic and Briggs read the play better than expected, fill the gap quickly and force the play to a different gap, blow up the lead blocker, etc. We did really well against their run game, you have to expect that somebody will be responsible in terms of being given credit. One thing that PFF is willing to say is up for debate is the overall grade. So, Marshall and Jeffery were so fantastic grade-wise last year due in part to the fact that they were both in their own world in terms of run blocking as WR. You might not think run blocking is that important for a WR so you won't think their overall grade is as indicative of their ability as their pass game grade. You might think a nose tackle should have no influence on the pass rush whatsoever so you won't factor in his pass rush grade. Etc. How do they account for mistakes and bad play? For example, if a team is generally a bad running team and the defense "plays well" against the run, do defenders still get a lot of positive credit for their performance? -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 12:05 AM) Can someone catch me up to speed on this rant Dan from IL went on this afternoon? What'd I miss? He sent about 15 tweets which were basically one of these two things: "f*** you if you sit in A section" and "f*** you if you buy tickets to the games and don't go." Nothing too exciting, but it is kind of amusing considering how stiff he is as a moderator of his boards. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 07:20 PM) He's saying that the statement that people like to throw around that Illinois can't get back to the top without the top Chicago players is being tossed aside by Groce as he's clearly getting top 50 out of state players in consistently now and he's still getting great talent from the Chicago area. It's really good because we aren't as reliant on those Chicago guys now, and it seems our perception is much better outside of the city. Get top out of staters interested and committed and suddenly Illinois looks much better to the in-state kids. More or less this. It's a common thought that Illinois should bend over backwards to please the Chicago basketball scene (hire Reggie Theus!) to get the top recruits from the area. I guess the best way to put this is that Chicago will never be owned by Illinois, so it's fantastic that we have a coach who can go out and recruit nationally (his top two recruits at Illinois so far are from out of state, and he has the interest of 4 other out of state top 50 recruits this year). I have no problems with the big name guys going elsewhere, by the way. They don't owe Illinois anything. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Just huge news, giant barriers broken with this one: Indiana, top 30 player and out of state, 5 star (at least on 247). BIG BIG BIG news for Groce and the program. Can't wait to see him and Jordan light it up. I love how we keep getting players out of state. We go after the top Chicago recruits, but we absolutely don't need them like everybody says we do. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) My argument is - people need to evaluate his tenure a little more reasonably. All I hear is how terrible he was, but he was actually not bad in comparison to other Illinois coaches. IMO as a fan, he had to go because he would never get the program where I want the program (the next Wisconsin). But that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge that for the program as it exists, he was "good." It surprises me that with Beckman and how the last 2+ seasons have gone people can't acknowledge that maybe Zook wasn't as bad as people thought. The problems with keeping kids in school and with being able to have both good recruiters and good coaches at the same time are pretty awful. And, that doesn't even account for his in game decision making or the way his teams just folded at the first sign of adversity. Beckman is not looking like a good hire right now, but that has nothing to do with evaluating Zook.
