  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) Ben Badler has his projections out for all 30 teams. Does anyone have a BA account that can get that info? I am hoping for Nunez and Alfaro at least for the White Sox at this point. Assuming this is the same article you're referring to: QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...ospects-july-2/ Good read since the game was postponed Has Amado Nunez probably signing with the Sox. But once again he has the Yankees taking the majority of the top 30.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) You'd think, given the fact that he has demonstrated no ability to strike enough guys out to be successful, they would have him focus on generating swings and misses at the expense of anything and everything else. I don't doubt what Balta saw, but I don't believe we've gotten confirmation from anybody else that Beck is purposely working on something which causes him to strike nobody out. Or, at the very least, that he has been doing it in more than just that one start. At any rate, he is going to have to show the ability to miss bats at some point or another. The longer it takes the harder it is to believe that he will.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) Temple hired Rick Brunson as an asst coach. Wha? More reason why saying recruit X is a lock for school Y before summer even starts is crazy. Not sure if this means Jalen will 100% be going to Temple, but I think you can scratch off any school that isn't on the east coast at this point. Totally controversial and new statement, I know.

    QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:47 AM) It can be ... growing up I was always mistaken for a very young kid when I wasn't. At 18, people thought I was 13, and at 21, unless I had 537 forms of picture ID, every last bar/restaurant would reject serving me alcohol because I still looked about 15. I'm pretty much in the exact same boat. Only, people have no problem serving me alcohol because they want my money.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) I can almost guarantee that they are offering slot and nothing more. They have no reason to be low balling him and no reason to be offering much more, if any, than slot. People are acting like they've already offered more than slot, and he's turning it down. All I'm really saying is that it's easy to judge Rodon from afar, but as long as he signs a contract by the deadline he's not doing any real harm to anybody. He's only trying to do what's the best for himself (i.e. what every human being on the planet does).
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:27 AM) I don't see any way the White Sox go higher than $6.5 mill - that's what Brady Aiken signed for, and that's well above the 3rd pick's slot value. They are likely offering $6.15 mill (give or take) right now. The difference - $350K - is 5.38% more. If he straight up busts and never pitches beyond the initial contract, he still makes $6.15 million. That's a lot of money. I don't care what the guy does, but going back to school IS insane and not worth it at all for him at this point. It could be that he personally wants to rest his arm, and that's fine, but I think the Sox do too. The thing is none of us here, save for Rock and Bucket perhaps, know what's on the table. None of us know whether or not Rodon is actually considering going back to school. As long as he ultimately signs, holding out for more money isn't necessarily hurting him at all. It's just inflaming a bunch of fans who want what's best for them in having him pitch now.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) Really, he would do that for like 3 months at the very longest. Did it hurt David Price's development? He isnt going to spend years in the pen, only a cup of coffee at the end of the year. Honestly, I think it would be good for him to spend a few months with Coop, even if out of the pen. What I was trying to say was: how bad is losing a month of development time when a lot of us think he's developed enough to pitch out of the pen right now?
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) There's about 3 ways he doesn't get opportunities until he's at least 30: -If his numbers are absolutely dreadful. -He becomes incapable of pitching effectively ever again. -He decides he doesn't want to anymore. (these are not mutually exclusive events) Either way, he's going to get like $6.17 mill guaranteed right now. It's really only hurting himself, but the thing Boras is best at is extracting the most out, even if it sacrifices job security and development. But how much money will he be making if he straight out busts? And how much development time is he really losing when most seem to think he can pitch out of the bullpen right now? I'm not saying it's necessarily the best decision, but I can't fault him like everybody here on their high horse.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) He could have to absolutely obliterate his left arm, Brien Taylor style, to never get another pay day playing baseball. Players with his talent will get chance after chance. I meant big payday, but what if his slider isn't all that special with a major league ball? There are tons of possibilities, though unlikely, that I can't fault him for getting as much as he can while he can.
  10. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) I agree. He isn't going to get more than we can offer. And I can only assume we are offering everything we have left to get him. So at this point he hurting the reputation of his player, and reminding GMs why they may hate to deal with the guy. But what if we aren't offering him everything we have? I can't blame Rodon for looking out for himself here. He might well blow out his elbow this year and never get another payday. The extra 100k or whatever might actually matter to him there.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) 99.9999% Six nines probability is pretty good.
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 03:10 AM) That's what makes sense, but it's not what FIFA does. Drawing of lots? Lol

    Iraq

    The only mistake was going to Iraq initially. No matter what happened next, it was going to go poorly.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) Sshhh, don't ruin their dream of equating a predominantly Irish Catholic universities mascot wildly popular with midwestern Irish families of being entirely the same as one of the most racist owners of the 20th century naming his team the Redskins. Doesn't stop it from being racist. Redskins is definitely over the line, though.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) This to me is a better argument for why censoring speech is dumb. Language changes. It doesn't mean the same thing over time. If stigma and connotation can be added over time, why can't it be lost too? Have you EVER heard of anyone refer to an american indian as a redskin? Nope, neither has anyone else still living. We all know it as a s***ty football team in Washington DC. This is an interesting point, but I'm having a hard time believing you could walk up to a Native American, call him a redskin, and have him not be offended.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) Doesn't make any sense. They've admitted worse most likely. So weird. They tightened things up after the Zook years. Incompetency is the name of the game at Illinois.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) if it isn't 16,000 sq ft, it isn't worth buying. What's the point in having a 16,000 ft² home if it isn't in Scottsdale?
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 08:26 AM) I love Magary, but he and Greg and others like them need to gain some historical perspective. The US has been in worse shape in the past. MUCH worse. Just throwing this out there: does this mean it can't be better?
  19. For what it's worth, Hahn has never seemed to really have a problem with Boras. He was the one who negotiated the Andruw Jones contract with Boras a couple years back.
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) So I tried doing a top 20 and realized just how much deeper this system is. I only included a few of the draft picks and I didn't know where to put Micker Adolfo. Also, I am hoping that Huascar Ynoa will be added to the list. 1. Carlos Rodon LHP 2. Tim Anderson SS 3. Micah Johnson 2B 4. Courtney Hawkins OF 5. Spencer Adams RHP 6. Matt Davidson 3B 7. Francellis Montas RHP 8. Carlos Sanchez INF 9. Trey Michalczewski 3B 10. Rangel Ravelo 1B 11. Tyler Danish RHP 12. Chris Beck RHP 13. Trayce Thompson OF 14. Jace Fry LHP 15. Jacob May OF 16. Adam Engel OF 17. Cleuelis Rondon SS 18. Andrew Mitchell RHP 19. Keon Barnum 1B 20. Brad Goldberg RHP There are some guys that I left off. I remember when it was tough to come up with 20 White Sox prospects. I agree almost exactly with your list. I feel like you have Danish and Beck a little low, but I also can't really justify moving them above anybody except maybe Ravelo and Davidson if you're completely ignoring what he did before this year. It really is amazing how much better things look for the system right now compared to just a few months ago.

    QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) Edge of Tomorrow really good. A lot like the movies Deja Vu, Groundhog Day, Source Code and Memento jumbled together. Emily Blunt is a revelation as an action star. Cruise puts in his standard, earnest/workmanlike performance. Good summer popcorn flick, drags a bit in the middle but then picks up steam the last 30 minutes again. Doug Liman's a high quality director, IMO. It was the best movie I've seen in quite a while, IMO. All that's left to do now is wait for Jenks to say how much he hated it haha.
  22. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) No that is not the case. Movement and control ADDED to velocity is always more important. In the Major Leagues you have to pitch off your fastball and then after that usually is the change. That's why Nola is the safer pick. But if you develop the guy that can work in the mid to high 90's with a plus slider or curveball then instead of the opposing offense having to force their opportunities by putting the bat on the ball they're in the dugout praying for rain. Or, they never learn the third pitch and command to be able succeed as a major league starter. Not saying I would pick Nola over Kolek, but after the draft nobody cares about "safety" if the guy performs.
  23. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) He seems to be interested in going back east and Jay Wright loves his guards. All of these rumors are meaningless until visits start happening. Wasn't it just a couple weeks ago that he was a lock to MSU?
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) I take it he's no longer looking for the hardship waiver? Knowing the NCAA, he has just as good of a chance to get it there than he does anywhere else.
