  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:44 PM) I think we did a good job. I think we "won" the Peavy deal in that we got an elite prospect, ate no money, and in general struck while the iron was hot - it also opened up a spot for Rienzo/Johnson down the stretch in the rotation. Matt Thornton for Jacobs - winner (though I'm sure BoSox are happy to have Thornton right now). Jacobs is a nice prospect who has a real shot of at least getting a cup of coffee in the MLB. Could do substantially more than that with his talent level. Jesse Crain for ??? - we'll see, but Hahn did a great job of finding a way to extract as much value from that bad situation as possible. Not eating money for better prospects, assuming it was possible, in the Peavy deal was a mistake, imo.
  2. QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 03:12 PM) I think it would get a deal done but I don't think Mozeliak will surender any of Miller, Wacha, or Martinez. I know that is not what White Sox fans want to hear but that is what I beleive. I think Wong could be the headliner. I do think Tyler Lyons could also be part of it. He is a very nice starter. I could see one of Piscotty or Ramsay being included and, finally, someone like Sam Freeman. There is also Ryan Jackson or Greg Garcia if the White Sox are so inclined. I really don't know how to play GM! I do think the Cardinals would take all of next year's salary and most of the remaing this year. Call me crazy, but I'd be more than a little disappointed if we gave up Peavy and cash for a deal centered around Wong. I don't know enough about prospects to know how fair that deal would be overall, though.
  3. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) If you can't spot the meathead within 10 minutes of talking about the Bears, then you are the meathead.
  4. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 08:02 AM) He isn't worth paying but really is it worth arguing over and blocking your friend from her lol. I used the term friend pretty loosely haha. I couldn't believe nobody would agree with me, even behind her back. I felt like I was taking crazy pills.
  5. So I just got Into an argument with a girl my friend is trying to bang. Urlacher is not worth paying, yes?
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 06:39 PM) Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA 1m #WhiteSox sign 19th-rder Adam Engel for $100k. Louisville OF, loaded with tools (VG run, big lg CF, raw power), inconsistent bat. #mlbdraft This means we should have about ~122,800 to ~287,880 to spend on Rodriguez depending on how much they want to get taxed, if I'm understanding things correctly. From previous accounts, it sounds highly, highly unlikely that he signs for anywhere in that range.
  7. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) He might as well narrowed his list down to Louisville and Indiana, Hopefully Groce can close on Black and get something outside of Finke for the 14 class. I'm really interested to see which way they go. We've only really heard about Lyle, Alexander, and Black over the past 6 months. I wonder if they plan on banking a scholarship for 2015.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) Why is TN on that list? Their coach is African American.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 26, 2013 -> 08:00 PM) What's the commonly-accepted "must be at least this rate of success" rate for stealing where the statistics say it's not worth giving up the outs? About 75-80%? For the minors, you'd like to see it at 85% or higher, because that's certainly not going to hold up at the major league level. I think it's generally considered to be 75%.
  10. Voted for the "Only take on players that add to payroll but not give up talent" option. With the Sox winning games again, selling off isn't looking like the best option anymore. However, I'd like to see them stand pat or only make acquisitions where they don't give up much of anything. This roster as constructed is plenty good enough to compete if they play to their potential, and I'd like to see the gaping wound that has been our farm system start to heal instead of opening it up yet again for what would likely be a marginal improvement.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2013 -> 12:38 AM) A bit. Don't take this the wrong way or anything, but the fact that you answered my question in 4 letters made me laugh. I must truly be crazy.
  12. Am I crazy if I liked Iron Man 3 a lot more than The Avengers?
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 21, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) The TV stuff is interesting, but the gesture stuff is just annoying. Who the f*** wants to say "Xbox, on" or "Live TV" or waive their hands in the air like idiots when a remote control works perfectly fine? Spend some R&D money on some useful innovations please. I think it would be pretty cool to say Xbox on and have it turn on. Something tells me it won't work that well, though. I don't think there's really any useful innovations left. At least I hope it's why every new piece of technology seems loaded with useless crap...
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ May 21, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) All the gamers I know hate it. This will not play old games and there will be no more used games. Each game will be assigned to a single XBL account. Still have to pay for XBL. I'm just going to get a Roku and be happy to live in the stone age...maybe I'll grab a PS4. Paying monthly for XBL will always kill it for me. Allowing backwards compatibility creates bloat within the architecture of the xbox. It's honestly probably a good thing that Microsoft is taking this approach to a new system instead of letting it get kind of out of hand like they do with Windows/x86. There's also nothing stopping you from just keeping your old system if you think you'd still like to play your old games.
  15. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 20, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) This. she makes my loins tingle. I don't think this is a good thing...
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 19, 2013 -> 11:49 PM) Really, really like Great Gatsby. I thought the modern soundtrack and CGI, which seem to be the biggest two complaints, actually really aided the movie. Really? I felt like the CGI took away from it a lot, particularly when they would do that thing with all the words on the screen. Ultimately, I think the metaphors of the book just ended up as corny in the movie, though I appreciated their attempt to make it work. The soundtrack was kind of weird, but I was ok with it.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 16, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) While I enjoyed the ability to enter the bars (and drink) while I was 19 & 20, I always thought it made no sense to let us in underage. I did contribute $260 to the Champaign government fund after a raid at C.O. Daniels. As far as I can tell, they just don't want the local high schoolers to have an easy time getting into the bars while still allowing local bars (and themselves via tickets) to get the increased business. They definitely ramp up the raids at weird times/places in the summer, which makes it look to me like they're trying to keep an eye on the local kids. There was a point last year where Murphy's got raided at least once a week for about a month in the summer. Luckily for you that ticket now costs about $320 I believe, assuming they haven't raised it again in the last year or so.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 05:25 PM) I also can't see the Sox having as small of a payroll as the Marlins, Pirates and Astros have had during their rebuilding years. Heck, just having Danks on the roster is more money than anyone on those teams were getting paid. I agree.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 14, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) I would lose a lot of interest in baseball the White Sox if they rebuilt. I'd probably start following the Pirates, Orioles, or Rays a hell of a lot more closely. Not that I wouldn't have my rooting interests first, but I'd have to develop others because I know how s***ty and depressing following the White Sox would be. I'm a Bills fan too - rebuilding for a long time is s***ty and kills your fan base. I also know way more about the Bears and Patriots than I should, but I happen to have developed a habit of watching those two teams whenever I can too. To think that wouldn't happen to the White Sox is silly, and most people would switch allegiances and start following the Cubs. That is the one time when Sox fans should care about the Cubs winning something. The reality is that whatever the White Sox decide to do during/after this season, if we don't want to sink to the depths of the Pirates and such, they need to not f*** it up. The reason the future seems bleak right now is that nearly everything KW has done since 2008 has backfired to some degree or another. It doesn't matter if they rebuild or compete or whatever you want to call it. If the moves turn out like Dunn, Peavy, Rios, Molina, Danks, Thornton, etc. we will suck regardless of the strategy used, and the hemorrhaging of fans will continue. That is the bottom line. I happen to think that selling off in July if we are still in last place is the best move in the long term for the team. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see us competing next year if we can't this year.
  20. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 13, 2013 -> 09:46 PM) If Monken was our HC maybe. I just don't see any way he'd come to Illinois. It's tough to make a case for it when there's a realistic chance that he won't even be eligible to play while this coaching staff is still in place.
  21. Personally, I think it's just too early to ask this question. But, if we're still >5 games out and in last place around the deadline, they should absolutely trade all the bullpen pitchers who will be gone after this year while dangling basically everybody not named Sale in the hopes that some team will bite. Realistically, Peavy's the only particularly interesting player amongst that group right now, but I could see somebody biting on Rios or maybe even Alexei. There's no reason we can't sell off at the deadline if it's obvious that we aren't very good.
  22. Apparently, Wes Lunt is considering transferring to Southern Miss, Illinois, Louisville, Tennessee or Vanderbilt. Despite the fact that Illinois seems like [is] a bad fit on the surface, if his top priority is getting closer to home, you'd have to think Illinois has a pretty decent shot with a list like that... I'll believe it when I see it, though.
  23. At the very least, I've heard that she didn't like how Brandon was developed and how dysfunctional the old staff was. I'm not sure how true that is considering all "information" that I get is 3-4th hand at best.
  24. Does anybody have any experience with Chondromalacia Patella? I've been having some moderate success rehabbing it by stretching out my quad and IT band with a foam roller along with just generally stretching out my leg, but I still get a slight cracking feeling in my knee when I bend it. Does anybody have any idea of what I could add to help the healing, or any idea of how long it should take for my knee to get back to normal, if it ever will?
  25. If I'm not mistaken, we have been dangling Floyd for about 2 years now. I don't think anybody wants him for any reasonable price.
