  1. "At PASCAL I'm number 1" Holy crap. I haven't heard anyone even mention PASCAL much less use it in over a decade. IIRC, it was last offered as a class in my high school when I was in 10th grade. That was around 92/93.
  2. QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) ...he's not a porn star, he taped himself having sex. He's doing this for the attention or the money or both. It's not like this tape was stolen and he didn't know about . He's releasing it on purpose.
  3. I didn't realize he's only 9 months older than me. Everyone else on that show was born in '72-'74. He still looks terrible with that goatee...

    Light cigarettes

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) Light ones do have smaller amounts of nicotine and tar per cigarette in each cigarette. Which is why you feel like you're smoking air with an ultra-light. In my opinion, its an accurate label - because it definitely feels like a lighter smoke than say a Camel Wide or Lucky regular. So how would this be a case? If there are less amounts of harmful substances in each cigarette, then couldn't they really be considered "less harmful"? Sure they'll still give you cancer, just not a quickly. Kinda like a cheeseburger and a double-cheeseburger. Both will make you fat, but one will do it faster...
  5. QUOTE(ptatc @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) This is Chicago White Sox. It's the "we aren't coming until you show us something". It doesn't surprise me that after winning last year people finally come to the games. I would think that it's common to have better attendance after you win. Also, the attendenace was artificially inflated by the people who had to buy season tickets in order to get the playoff tickets last year. Remember it's how many tickets are sold not how many are at the ballpark. It is common to have better attendance when you win. The team on the northside is the only professional sports team that has managed to figure out how to raise attendance without the help of a winning team or a new stadium. The attendance increased about 21% in 2005 over 2004. It was also the first time they broke the 2 million mark since 1993 (which coincedentally coincided with a playoff berth and a 2-year-old staduim). Not a bad feat for a team that had a season ticket base of, IIRC, somewhere around 15,000 and were predicted to finish 3rd or 4th. BTW, I don't know if they count the many comp tickets they give away. If they did, they would probably be over 3 million easy.

    Light cigarettes

My wife has always smoked lights. The description I've always gotten is that they aren't as "strong". Everyone I know that has ever smoked the ultra-lights said it's like smoking air. I'm not sure I've ever thought they were less "harmful" but I did assume they have less tobacco, tar, niccotine, whatever in them...
  7. QUOTE(Tigers Fan @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 08:01 AM) so the whole country can make fun of Detroit again... As if they ever took a break.. I just saw Scary Movie 4 the other day. The scene where they show Detroit before and after the attacks cracked me up.
  8. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 10:28 AM) heh heh, are you sure? I remember being ripped for predicting 3 million this year. Shoot, I was called off the wall for saying the SOX staff ERA would not allow them to make the playoffs. Thats what makes the SOX blowing it and not making the playoffs so FRUSTRATING, they really had a chance to take this town to another level You really didn't start posting regularly here until June. Most of the predictions were made before the season started. I myself predicted somewhere between 2.7 - 2.8 million and never heard a word from anyone. I'm just thinking that if this happened, it happened on the other board.
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) The other side of the coin on that is, having the team go through that particular bit of humiliation and the meaninglessness of the final series in Minny (regardless of when they clinch) might inspire them to make sure they don't put themselves in the same position again next year. I'm looking for potential positives in the strangest of places at this stage. Well the Twins did it win the Sox clinched on their field in 2000. They moved up to second the next year and then proceeded to win 3 division titles in a row. The Sox clinched on the Tigers home field last year. Look what happened... QUOTE(ZoSo @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Didn't Minnesota clinch in Chicago in 2004? Well, we know how they came out in '05 from the gate, whether that has anything to do with it. It'll happen when it happens and if the Sox are on the field to see it, it can only serve to light a fire in them for next year. Yep.
  10. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) Wow. Congratulations to the White Sox and this fanbase. I predicted this would the the 1st time the SOX ever got 3 Million (and was roundly mocked for it If I recall correctly) and was only off by 42,586. DANG! Thats basically one more good crowd, and we wouldve done it. 51 Sellouts. Congratulations SOX FANS, thats also a tribute to you too. I think you're getting your message boards mixed up. I did a search under your name for "million", "attendance" and "prediction" and can't find your prediction or anyone mocking you anywhere...
  11. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) I think they are trying to rid the convention of simple autograph and memorabilia hawks and trying to price them out. At the same time making hte event enjoyable for the players and the fans that do attend. I think it might cause the opposite affect. P eople with families that just go there for a weekend away to enjoy themselves are being priced out. The autograph hawks are probably willing to spend a little more money because they know they'll get at least some of it back by selling their stuff.
  12. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) I cannot IMAGINE what the room will be like when they do the Q&A with Ozzie after this turd of a season. Yeesh. Shades of 2004? Where, I believe, KW had to be escorted out or something? KW has always stood up and taken every verbal beating (and finger waving) at every seminar I've been to. IIRC, 2004 was the year they actually went over the alloted time because KW told everyone that he wanted to hear what they had to say.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) I don't work for the Hyatt nor the Palmer House Hilton so I have no idea other than guessing at their capasity. Perhaps you could call them for a more accurate guess. It's not a big deal. The only thing is if they squeeze in even close to the number of people they had at the "sold-out" 2005 fest, then their flimsy excuse of need to raise prices because they (willingly) went to a smaller venue is going to look really bad. If they had to double the prices because only half the number of people can attend, that might make a little more sense. I guess we won't know until the press release after Soxfest.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) I have no idea how you're making your guesses so I'm bowing out of the numbers talk. Based on this comment: QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) The place is 1/4 the size of they Hyatt.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) But all the guests at Soxfest were not hotel guests. Less than half I would bet. The guess of 5,000 includes hotel guests and single-day passes for the entire weekend. In 2005 there were about 12,000 people there the entire weekend. Last year there were about 25,000 people. This year, based on how small I keep hearing this place is, I'm guessing there will be about 5,000.
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) I have no idea how many tickets sold. And have no idea how you would know since each room can buy up to 4, and have not seen how many rooms were reserved for the event. I don't know either. You said that the place is 1/4 the size of the Hyatt. The Hyatt held about 15,000 comfortably throughout the weekend. 5,000 is a complete guess and could be way off but I keep hearing how tiny this place is.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) No clue, but a few friends who didn't get the package and are on a "wait list" in case of cancellations, that they have been told is close to 200 reservations. The place is 1/4 the size of they Hyatt. So that means about 5,000 tickets sold for the weekend? I'm still trying to figure out the logic of moving this thing to a smaller venue. Then citing the smaller venue as the excuse for the higher prices.
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) Yep. Since about 11am. Anyone know how many rooms the hotel reserved? I'm curious to know if selling out that quick is a result of a lot of people wanting to get in or just not many rooms available because of the smaller venue.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) Wow. That really shocks me. I guess Soxtalk is the only place that is this bitter? Me too. Between the price increase and the number of people that were first-timers last year and were disgusted with the way it was run and vowed never to come back, I figured they'd have a hard time selling out. There are definitely a few people that don't care about the price increase and are still going anyway. I'm sure there are more than a few people that are buying them in hopes of making some quick money on Ebay. Maybe people just want the chance to yell at the team in person for such a crappy season?
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) I think the Sox are going to regret the price changes after the way this team finished this season. I'm hearing the rooms are already sold-out.
  21. Just an FYI, there's a misprint on the Sox website which says: That should read more than two(2) adults. In other words, it'll cost $299 for 4 people to stay at the hotel. THEN you get to buy weekend passes...
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 11:50 PM) Do you still eat Macaroni and Cheese all the time too? Mac n Cheese and hot dogs (w/ketchup) is a meal around my house.
  23. QUOTE(mreye @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) This is my whole point. Why is it for the 5-10 age group? Why am I not allowed to enjoy ketchup because I'm over 30? Why can't the hot dog nazis let us ketchup lovers be? What's really funny is that when I was that age that's ALL I would eat on a hotdog. I hated both mustard and onions. I've grown to like mustard and onions are ok in moderation but I've never lost the taste for ketchup. I don't know why I would. In fact, there are a number of things I remember hating as a kid but will eat now. I can't remember anything I used to eat and don't eat now...
  24. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) Seriously? The game is identical to GTA, just with different characters. Its unreal how hard they copied. Again, I'm enjoying it. Oh yea. It's hilarious watching them try to defend it. Basically every argument they come up with is from the simple fact that it's on a newer console compared to GTA which came out a few years ago on a lesser system. Better graphics, better aiming, better character voices, better storyline... They completely ignore the fact that basic game itself (a ganster that steals cars, takes over territories, blows up stuff with different guns) is an exact rip-off of GTA. Then they try to counter with stuff like "Well GTA had racing in it. Does that mean they copied Nascar games?!?"
  25. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) Love the 360...currently playing Saints Row...a complete ripoff of Grand Theft Auto, but lots of fun. Don't tell that to the fanboys on the gaming sites. You'll start a war. Even though it's totally true...
