QUOTE(shoota @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) In reference to windows, one tip I didn't believe until I tried it was using glass cleaner on newspaper to clean car windows. That depends on the newspaper. I tried it once and got ink from the paper all over the place.

Ya know, back in my day people used to sit down and play games with a regular controller. It had a cord that was connected to the system. None of this jumping around throwing controllers was ever a problem...

I had a chance to pick up a Wii at Toys R Us around 11:30 AM on Friday morning. They had a bunch of display boxes but the actual systems were in a locked case behind the counter. There were a good 6 left. I passed. I just looked on Ebay, people are STILL paying $400+ for this thing... LOL

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) best episode of the season, imo. Definitely. Next week's episode looks like it will be even better. So is the nuclear explosion (or the prevention of it) going to happen at the end of the season or will they use that as a cliff-hanger to season 2?

QUOTE(juddling @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) FWIW....sounds like Sony is taking a hit on every console....makes you wonder when is too much too much...... It was clear that the cost of producing PS3 units were high for Sony, forcing the company to charge $600 per unit, but now we know exactly how high. Next-gen.biz has offered a full analysis of Sony's expenses. As it turns out, Sony is losing $306.85 for each 20GB system sold and $241.35 for every 60GB system. The full production cost for a 20GB system is a whopping $805.85, with the 60 GB coming in at $840.35. Chief among the expenses are the RSX graphics chip at $129 and the Blu-Ray optical drive at $125. In contrast, the $400 Xbox 360 only costs $323.30. For the first time in its five-year console publishing history, Microsoft is making a profit on each system sold. Did you happen to find out how much it costs to make the games they are selling for $60 a pop?

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) In 30 seconds I found this.... That one is twice the price I mentioned. Plus, it's after you mail in a rebate and get your money back 6-10 weeks later. Once again, you just can't find those kind of deals online. Besides that, the one I'm looking at is made by I/O Magic. I've never heard of Beyond Micro...

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) Sorry if this has already been answered, but I wasn't reading 6 pages........ Does the PS3 play games from the previous versions? Or are all PS2 games obselete on the PS3? It will play most of them. There's about 200 of them that they are still having problems with that Sony is working on a patch for...

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) I only waited outside in the middle of the night once and nearly got trampled and got nothing I wanted at Walmart. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, how do the sales work at the stores that are 24 hours, like Meijer? Do you wander around the store until they unveil the ad item? I've never had a problem getting the stuff I wanted. It just depends on what you're looking for and how soon you get there. At the 24-hour Wal-Mart, I think they just had all their "early-bird specials" stacked on pallets in the backroom. They brought them out at 5AM or whenever the sale started. Last year I went in there late in the afternoon and they still had the "early bird" prices on a lot of stuff. BTW, google black friday ads(there are tons of sites) and figure out what you want and where you can get it now. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) tip #1.... buy online tip #2.... buy online I saw a 250 GB external HD for $40 in one of the ads. You just don't find those kind of deals online...

QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) $14,100 for one PS3 He got off fairly cheap. I did hear that there were a few people running up the totals on some of the auctions with fake bids.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 04:30 AM) This is the facts of life. Are you running a PC? You probably have bugs, glitches and s*** all throughout your Windows. I am running a PC and it has run everything I've wanted it to run since the day I got it. I also didn't have to spend a week in line outside a store to buy it. Nor did I have to pay 4 times the retail price just so I could be the first person on my block to get one. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 04:30 AM) I wouldn't go as far as to call people morons -- and as someone already said, if they are software problems then there is really no big issue. Hardware, however, is another story. Spending an insane amount of money to buy something that will be readily available in stores everywhere 3 months from now = moron. IMHO of course.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) Are you telling me the xbox360 had 0 bugs when it was released... and they already said the problem will be able to be fixed with online updates so its not a big deal. No. I'm just saying there are stupid people all over the country waiting in line for days on end to get a machine that isn't even 100% glitch free. The morons paying $1500+ on Ebay are even worse. I'll wait a year or so to let them work all the glitches out and drop the price.

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) Personally, I don't think she did anything wrong. Obviously men who sleep with high school students should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law... But when its the other way around, I see nothing wrong with it. Well, except for that whole statatory rape law... You honestly believe it's ok for a 35-year-old adult to have sex with a 15-year-old child?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) Jas, I could have pretty much made that same post word for word. I was under the impression the new GTA would come out for PS3 1st, like it has in the past. If it's released at the same time with the 360, a new X-Box is almost a no-brainier for me. That's what I'm reading.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) oh movies too good call! I would like to see a list of dvd's out in december. Here's one site I found.
-
My list is mostly DVD box sets of old sitcoms. Maybe a couple of PS2 games and a couple of Stephen King books. My parents are extremely difficult to buy for. They pretty much have everything they need and don't really have any hobbies. I might get the new Microsoft Flight Simulator for my dad. My mom will probably end up with another sweater.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) So, all my Christmas shopping is done (and has been for about two weeks). But I still haven't made my christmas list for the family. I have no idea what I want. I will say, though, that the presents I'm giving this year are possibly the coolest ones I've ever given. So, I'm very excited about that. Is that part of being an adult? More excited to see people open the gifts you give than to open your own? I've always liked giving gifts almost as much as getting them. Especially since my family has a "tradition" of wrapping one present 10 times (and in several boxes) with an entire roll of scotch tape so it literally takes 10 minutes to unwrap it. Most of the time you can't see the floor after we're done unwrapping. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:15 PM) This year is so much more exciting for me with it being Madison's first year of "getting" Christmas. I am having so much fun trying to find stuff for her, all though I still really like to get stuff too :0) If she's like most kids, she'll be more interested in the boxes than the toys themselves.

QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 07:50 AM) I think people are overestimating the interest in the market for the PS3. The number of "brow-beaten" moms and dads buying will be a lot less with that $600 price tag. Two-three hundred bucks for a system is easier to drop down for the average parent than $600. Especially with many stores eliminating lay-away. Also, I predict that the secondary market could be tougher in the turnaround than many of you who are looking for the fast buck, think. Have you looked on Ebay lately? People are already bidding on these things.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) Take it out of your check. It happened once to a co-worker a couple years ago. Welcome to my world! It's been 2 years since I have received any kind of raise (or has anyone else I work with for that matter), we found out today our health insurance costs have gone up $15 a month and they are buying two lines from a competitor (this was 2 years in the making though). Yeah, I can't say I was all that motivated to work after meeting this morning (free lunch or no free lunch). I think it's why I can relate to Office Space so much. Peter's quote when he's talking to the Bobs about lack of motivation really sums it up. I can't imagine working for more than a year with no raises. Every single job I've ever had, retail or otherwise, I've gotten a yearly raise. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) I think non-smokers should get discounts on Health Benefits...likewise for Gym frequenters. I know that's not the end-all of health, but my unscientific guess would be that smokers and sedentary individuals have a higher rate of visiting their health care provider than the previously mentioned. thoughts? (I know that's a major hijack, but steff brings up a good point) My company gives discounts for being tobacco-free. We just have to sign a paper that says we haven't used any tobacco products in the past 12 months. If I could afford health insurance, I'd take advantage of it. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) What do your companies do when you use up all your sick days and have to take off? We're allowed to use vacation days as well. We can also "borrow" days from the next year. I'm currently earning days but won't actually get them until July. I can borrow them before if I use up all my days from this year. Hasn't been a problem yet.

I've never seen his act other than a few bits and pieces on Youtube. I did like him in Employee of the Month though.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) A normal year of work is 2,080 hours. Taking an extra three sick days is 24 hours. You just gave yourself a whopping 1.1% raise. Sadly, that's not far off from my actual raise earlier this year. My supervisor said I deserved more but the company has standard percentage. Meanwhile they are about to announce that they are spending 90 million dollars to aquire a company in Florida. I need to start taking more days off...
-
I get 7 holidays, 18 vacation days and 5 sick days each year. I also get to work from home 1 day a week. I also get paid salary. So I can work 7 hours one day and 9 the next if I need to leave early or whatever. As long as we are putting in our 40 hours a week in some way, it's not a big deal.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) Nice pics! Two summers ago my cat had kittens in my closet, and those pics reminded me of those great times having 5 kittens living in my room. We got her when we were camping of all places. My mom and wife were walking around and a lady had a basket full of free kittens. So she convinced me that we need another one. We picked her because she was the most feisty. All the other ones were perfectly happy to sit in the basket. She climbed right out every time we put her in. We knew she'd make a good playmate for the bigger cat.
