  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) I think it was a Hyundai Sonata Yep
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 07:15 AM) Don't buy new cars because they depreciate about 15% the minute you drive them off the lot. Have had 8 different GM and Chrysler vehicles in the past and have had major mechanical problems with every single one. Most recently have had two Toyota vehicles with no problems at all. We're hooked on Toyotas for life. I've never had much trouble with GM, but I've had somebody that actually worked at a Chrysler plant complain about Chrysler cars. I've known lots of people that have had transmission problems with them.
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 08:37 AM) Meh, there are so many incentives for non-luxury brands right now that you can tend to make up for the depreciation and then some, plus you won't have any miles on it. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 08:57 AM) Right now, I'd strongly recommend (for most people) a new car over a used one. Used car prices are, relative to new, more expensive now than they have ever been. Interest rates on car loans are absurdly low, you can typically get a new car at zero to two percent if you have decent credit - used cars are more, if you have to finance. Add to that the fact that warranties keep getting better and fuel economy (due to CAFE standards) keeps being upped with each new car model iterance... to me, new is the way to go. Agree with both posts. Low interest rate, 10 year/100,000 mile warranty and only 72 miles on the odometer when I drove it home where the reasons I went with a brand new car.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 12:50 AM) • Oz is the devil for "quitting" on the team with a week + one more season left on his contract to pursue the Marlins' job late in the season. You think he threw in the towel early. I believe ... Oz and KW couldn't coexist and Ozzie, with the blessing of Jerry, simply agreed in principle to become the Marlins' skipper cause he wasn't wanted in Chicago anymore. FIFY QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 12:50 AM) • The White Sox are doing better this season just because Ozzie is gone. I say that is crap. Some players are having better years which has nothing to do with the manager. Read the quotes from the players themselves. There is a completely different feeling in the clubhouse this year. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 12:50 AM) He was acquired for BIG BUCKS and HAS TO BE the Marlins' closer. I like you you keep saying this like it's a true fact. He doesn't HAVE TO BE anything, no matter what his salary is. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 12:50 AM) I don't have to defend him. I agree.
  5. QUOTE (SnB @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 07:46 AM) Easy That's the chips I couldn't remember. My kids got snack-size bags of the original flavor one year for Halloween. I tried one chip and then threw the bag away. I didn't know it was possible for a potato chip to taste that awful.
  6. I thought it was kind of sad how she pressured her daughter into going to a college closer to home and trying to find a job closer to home instead of letting her go out into the world and making something of herself. Kinda crushing her daughter's dreams there...
  7. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) You "got to go" with the higher paid player? Since when? I think Ozzie and Greg are the only two people in the world that believe this. Even Marlins fans are asking for Bell to be gone.
  8. Ours popped a stitch or 2 because she was so rambunctious when she was little. We had to drug her to keep her relaxed and calm for a few days.
  9. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) i have split feelings here. I dont necessarily like when guys say that they are happy not playing. While neither Dunn nor Peavy made the team because of fan votes, (maybe Peavy to some extent) it does irritate me that as fans we are asked to vote early and often and spend hours doing so. Just to have guys make a team and then ask not to play. Whats the point? Based on Peavy's quotes, had he been voted in he would have been more prepared. Coming in at the last second as a replacement didn't give him much time to get ready.
  10. Mrs. Fisher's without a doubt. Getting a big bucket straight from the factory is awesome.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 07:34 AM) Same thing happens in schools. High school teachers always ask how the hell did middle school teachers ever pass the students on when they were so improperly prepared. Middle school teachers ask what the heck was going on in that elementary school? Elementary or K teachers blame the parents when the students have only mastered 2000-4000 vocabulary words by age 5 when many of the suburban kids are at the 20,000 mark. Off the main topic but I figured this out just this year. A student can fail the majority of their classes, take 21 half-days of summer school reviewing reading, writing and math (even if those aren't the subjects the student struggled with) and the school considers them prepared for the next grade level.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) It's a performance business. Ozzie gives Bell the ball; Bell has to get the save. No excuses. And when he doesn't, let him keep going out there and trying. Performance be damned.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) He was not silent. he told Bell that was a f***ing lie when Bell said he felt like nobody had his back. And he looked like him like he was crazy when Bell said that stupid thing at the end rather than stroke the closer's ego. hey this is a performance business. Ozzie told the guy he couldn't get his curve over for a strike and called him on it when he said nobody had his back. MASTERFUL IMO. I'm assuming that conversation took place sometime in April or May. It doesn't look like it helped because Heath hasn't really gotten any better. A 2-4 record with a 6.00 ERA and only converted 18 of 31 save opportunities. Yet Ozzie seems to stubbornly stick by him and "have his back". I seem to remember that being a big complaint from a lot of people here.
  14. I like how upper management found out that Guillen reinstated Bell as his closer via the media talking about it on Twitter. Awesome communication there.
  15. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2012/fv/ballot.jsp JQ isn't on there.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) I have the ultimate defense: A world series title. Case closed. I was referring to the fact that you keep insisting that Ozzie didn't quit. Him winning a WS has nothing to do with that. Why he quit also has nothing to do with it. It's just a simple fact you can't seem to acknowledge. Ozzie had a contract to manage the team through the 2012 season, but instead he decided to quit before his contract was fulfilled and go manage the Marlins instead. Nothing you say can make that statement false, so quit tying.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) I think most posters would say I've said enough on Ozzie. This "quit on the team" stuff is tiresome. Did Rios quit on the team? Did Dunn? It's easy to spout such a simplistic phrase. Do grown men and women really think Ozzie Guillen quit on the White Sox? What's tiresome is you trying to defend something that is not defensible.
  18. I remember reading somewhere that a few of those lights have yellow lights that aren't long enough. Like they are supposed to stay on for 3 or 4 seconds and they have them set for 2.
  19. I have to take my husky in on Saturday to be put to sleep. They found a large tumor in his abdomen and said that's it's inoperable. He won't eat anything so he would starve to death otherwise. He's 13 so he's pretty old. He's slowed down a lot in the past couple years.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) Correct which is why he wont pitch, but he will be there. 1st in ERA, WHIP, 4th in wins. He's an All star. Actually, I think he meant to say pre-ASG. Which is possible.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) Didn't Ventura say yesterday that he'd plan their post-ASG rotation around who gets into the game? That's post-ASG though. IIRC, MLB has a rule that starters that pitched on the last day before the ASG can't pitch in the game.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) Maybe Greg wrote that to himself, and didn't use his normal, inimitable, staggered line/iambic pentameter style? I've thought for a long time that Greg is just a fake account by another poster that was made to rile us up. Nobody can be that happily clueless IRL can they? Thinking the NL is better than the AL was the last straw.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 07:37 AM) Oh, and start marketing outside the city. Put together bus trips from Rockford, Bloomington, Champaign, Lafayette, Indianapolis, and South Bend. Package includes bus trip + ticket + hot dog + coke. The Sox are an afterthought in the Rockford area. A lot of the major stores like Target, Wal-Mart, Kohls, etc have large displays of Cubs stuff with little to no Sox stuff at all. Sears is the only place I can ever find a decent selection of Sox stuff besides an actual sporting goods or sports collectibles store. I've also heard about Cubs bus trips from local radios stations. I'm pretty sure that's set up by the radio stations contacting the team, not the other way around.
  24. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Why have you gone to so few? Perhaps we can get some insight in to the problem using you as an example. The attendance problem isn't that difficult to figure out. It has been on a steady decline since 2005. Even them squeaking into the playoffs in 2008 didn't give it a boost because they've missed the post-season every year since. Expectations going into this season weren't that great and I'm guessing the season ticket base is pretty low right now. Maybe around 10,000 or so. The only thing that's going to boost attendance is consistent and sustained winning year after year. Make the playoffs 4 times in 5 years instead of 19 and you'll see a big difference. A hot streak that lasts a couple of weeks isn't going to make a difference. I don't know why everyone expects it to.
  25. Anyone have any experience with bark collars? We have a pug/shar-pei mix and she barks at pretty much anything that moves. When she is in the backyard she barks at the neighbors, the neighbor's dogs, people walking on the sidewalk, a leaf blowing by in the wind... When we take her camping with us she's almost as bad. We've even had our neighbors come over and meet her. They'll give her treats and she will literally wag her tail and bark at them at the same time. She's even barked at my wife and I if it's dark and she doesn't realize it's us walking towards her. I think it's partly a mix of excitement and her being very territorial and going into protect mode. She has never bitten anyone though. We've discovered that a spray bottle filled with water works ok when we are around to catch her. I know there are some collars that spray them so that's where I got the idea from. There are also the shock collars. I just want something so we can let her outside for 10 minutes or so and not have to be right there to keep her from barking at everyone and everything.
