  1. Man, 2000 was the first season I really remember, and what I remember most? Not Frank being a monster, Oh-wee-oh Magglio, or Ray Durham being extra awesome. What I remember most is Jose's 'stache.
  2. I don't understand the Nick Johnson love. He seems like a good guy for the Yankees, where he isn't supposed the be the big bat, and if he gets injured, they can probably deal with it. With the Sox, I just couldn't see it being a "this gets us deep in the playoffs" signing unless Quentin, Alexei, Rios, Beckham, and even Paulie just mash.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) It's been the Joe Johnson and Derrick Rose show today. We're getting extra showtimes. Also, if we don't land Wade, I'd love to get Johnson. Edit: Kirk and now Salmons have had clutch 3's. What.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) Dammit, I hoping somehow Ely slipped out of the trade. Its nice to have an illinois and a Miami University guy in the org. I wanted to see him make it to the Sox just because he was a Sox fan, and it was probably his dream to make it the the bigs with the Sox. However, doesn't make me shed tears that he's gone.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Chris Young is hot garbage. But it's not like his contract is that detrimental. And his contract is up after '10 anyway. That package just isn't anywhere near enough. If you're trading a player of Gonzales' caliber, you're looking for instant impact talent. Floyd (the new Floyd) would obviously flourish in the NL and in that park. Flowers would give them a near major league ready prospect. But his value lies in if he can stick at catcher. And that's still up in the air. Mitchell is at least 2 years away, maybe longer. Yes, you definitely value Morel too high. Sure, in our paper thin system he's a top 10 prospect. Not saying much. Retherford and Nix would just be throw-ins. If that's the kinda package it took AGON would've been traded weeks ago. Yea, Viciedo and D2 would have to be thrown in there for the Padres to look at it.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Ben Sheets would be a nice 5th starter. If we deal Hudson, I'd love to get Sheets if he were cheap.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) Hmm, I missed that game. What an idiot. Yea, I'm always hit or miss with LZ Granderson, and could see where he was going until he dropped the Ben Gordon an All-Star line. Then I stopped reading. Edit: So if the Bulls flounder this season and get a lottery pick (Aldrich?) lets assume Salmons opts out because in this hypothetical, he gets his stuff together, team just sucks it up. Would someone like Wade find a roster of Rose-Deng-Noah-Gibson-Johnson-Hinrich-Aldrich appealing? If Salmons stayed, would the Bulls have to pair Deng or Salmons with the pick in a trade to dump salary?
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/commentary/...tory?id=4751701 Apparently, BG was an All-Star.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 05:18 AM) Well if it's 1-2 punches, I could see how the Sox would be left off. Let's face it. As much as we all adore Buehrle, he's not, nor has he ever been, elite. He's just very good. I'd take all those guys listed (aside from probably Hamels/Burnett) over Mark without hesitation. And Danks and Floyd aren't better than Burnett and Hamels, even with Hamels having an off year. Now if ESPN was doing top rotations overall and the White Sox were left off, then you would have a legitimate beef. And yes, the 2008 draft should go down as the best of the decade. And you didn't even mention Tim Beckham, Brian Matusz and, the guy who I believe will be the best player from this draft, Pedro Alvarez. Eh, I've never seen Burnett as a top tier starter, and definitely think of Buehrle as better than him.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 04:59 AM) There's a couple who have said it on this board, and some analyst out there and I'll just echo their statements. We will NEVER get the kind of return that we should for Mark Buehrle. And if Mark Buehrle is ever traded (or left in whatever way)... I'd probably be alot more pissed (or pretty much ever) then when Frank left us. Also throw in that Buehrle negotiated his deal to essentially make him untradeable, since if he's traded he get's $19 million.
  11. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 12:52 AM) come on, it's kenny. we will add another big name bat somehow. and for all the anti-ozzie talk, he should be our manager as long as he wants. i'm not sure anyone we can ever bring in will be that much better and i for one love having his as my manager. let's also not forget that he is a young manager that should be learning and getting better every year. I pretty much agree with this post. Also, whichever admin changed the title of the thread is my new hero.
  12. Man, ESPN hates the Sox. During the coverage they listed the 1-2 Punches in starting rotations for MLB staffs. Mariners: Felix Hernandez, Cliff Lee Red Sox: Josh Beckett, Jon Lester Yankees: CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett Giants: Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain Cardinals: Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright Phillies: Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels How is Peavy, Buehrle/Danks/Floyd not on there? It's better than the Yankees (Burnett not bing that great), Phillies (unless Hamels returns to form), the Red Sox (I'd take Peavy over Beckett, and Danks/Floyd at times are just as good as Lester). /southsidebias Also, the Phillies made out like bandits in this trade...just wow. And Wallace on the move again keeps reminding me of how loaded the top of the 2008 draft was: Slayer, Posey, Wallace, Alonso, Smoak...
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) Second OVERALL pick in the draft. Right behind our old buddy Erstad.
  14. Also, keep in mind the Sox don't get in bidding wars and the last time they almost landed a big FA (Hunter) the Angels swooped in at the last moment.
  15. Trade for Gonzalez. Slide Paulie to DH. Paulie can spell AGon if need be.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) I think one of the things they'd have to have in place is an idea of Pujols's extension demands, because the one thing that I wouldn't do in that franchise is to sign Holliday to a contract that would prevent me from meeting Albert's extension demands...or a contract that would have me paying big money to Holliday after I've had to trade Albert or let him walk. While trading Pujols would indeed suck, imagine the haul you'd get.
  17. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:19 PM) One thing I disagree with seemingly most the board... I for one believe Andruw was signed to have a serious role here. What? No Nick Swisher blow up dolls?
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) No.. stop.. Your making too much sense on this board Chris. Every one knows common sense is a super power. Chris Rongey=superhero? Regardless, I'll beat the dead horse and hope for A-Gon. Only way I could see us out-bidding the Red Sox is due to Hoyer's knowledge of their system, and he'd demand top level prospects as previously stated.
  19. I'm late to thread, so I'm just gonna say I like the move, since we're getting a Pods at almost half the cost, younger, less injury prone, slightly better D, better on base paths, and generally a better average. Also, the top levels of our system are unscathed so (to be a dead horse) Gonzalez isn't completely out of the question, and that would give us a good offense to go with the pitching.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:43 AM) I'm going to hold you to that... Party at Ranger's place! I'll bring the cake (shaped like a Sox logo )
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 11:51 PM) They're not going to pay Halladay and Lee. Exactly, the Phils couldn't afford both pitchers, or they'd keep Lee.
  22. Cowley may be to blame for Carrasco's departure. http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog/_/...432/name/levine The Putz leak drove the price up by $500,000, and DJ and the team were reportedly only a couple hundred thousand apart.
  23. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) # KW is lurking out there, about to pounce. Shhhhhh ... Listen closely, hear it? Logic tells me that Kenny is behind Cowley with a big dagger, and about to pounce.
  24. That was exactly how I would have had my top 6, and I might have had Crede in over Maggs/Contreras/Rowand. Slayer needs to be an honorable mention, since he's gonna be #1 next decade.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 03:54 AM) Except that Betancourt sucks, Ramirez is good, and both Contreras and Hernandez won a World Series with the Sox. So there. And Dayan is waiting in the wings.
