  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 07:06 AM) It seemed obvious when Hudson was a White Sox that if he could throw strikes he'd be a pretty good pitcher. He's only walked 3 more hitters in AZ than he did in 15 innings with the White Sox. There was a radio interview with him and he said they do things in AZ they don't do in Chicago. I do know if he was a hitter who struggled with the White Sox but had 1/3 of a season with this kind of success with another team, Greg Walker would be to blame. Why no Cooper bashing? As to the trade, Jackson has been pretty good. It really didn't make a difference this year. Next year will be key. If Hudson can be anywhere near as effective as he's been thus far, he'll win the Cy Young. Yeah, Arizona lets him pitch his way instead of trying to change him. Go figure! Coop said they were trying to slow him down, change his arm slot a little. Arizona just let him be himself, work fast and throw strikes. Sure did work for them! The kid's slider has gotten better and he has even thrown a few curve balls again. No one will ever know if he would have been successful in Chicago but it sure would have been nice to actually see a home-grown pitching prospect stick!
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) But he did it against an NL team. It doesn't count. Hmmmm maybe if the Sox waited he would be doing it against the AL as well.
  3. BTW I have heard (actually read on Milb last week) that they are tweaking Hudson's mechanics a bit, like they did with Peavy, which would account for the slightly inconsistent outings. He still had 8 K's last night so I see no cause for worry. As a whole the starters are settling in some what; bullpen is in shambles (Whisler did have a good outing last night).
  4. OK- lets all step back and take a deep breath.....feel better? Now, lets try not to jump on players 3 weeks in to the season. Hudson, Flowers, Viciedo will be OK. Everyone sure loved 'em last year (and don't say ya didn't- I read these boards although I don't post often). More than likely they are putting too much pressure on themselves trying to live up the the super-human expectations we have put on them. The psyche does funky things when we mess with it and lets face it they are still youngsters and learning. The Sox are struggling, too, and this too shall pass.
  5. Thanks, Chisoxfan! I tend to look at the future as opposed to next year. I like the thought of the core youngsters staying together as opposed to trading them all away in one fell swoop for 1 big name. Clubhouse attitude goes a long way in developing a perennial winner, and having a group gel together will produce on the field down the road (ie; 1996 Yankees class). However, I do understand the need for a big bat and the "let's win it next year." Jim Bowdens reflections: http://msn.foxsports.com/video?vid=4de211e...38-d9978c3a6616
  6. Went in the spring and had a great time. The facilities are tremendous and we are in the process of planning for this Spring!
  7. Hudson, if he has control issues, is actually trying to be too fine, trying to get the strikeout vs groundout. Watched him yesterday and he was painting the black but getting the rookie pitcher strike zone as opposed to the veteran pitcher strike zone. I think when he gets a cutter developed and works his change up he will be around for a while.
  8. I think the kid looked great for a first start; had a few hiccups but really worked out of it; had pretty good command. Had the rookie strike zone which is nonexistant and if he continues to paint corners and get the calls he will have a major impact. Saw Coop and Ozzie jawing at the ump over the strike zone difference for Blackburn. Add a cutter and he will be deadly. I can't wait to see him in the bigs next year!
  9. Hudson hadn't thrown in days; plus he's a starter going in relief for the first time in his career. I would give him a pass. He threw strikes, had a K. 1 big mistake which meant nothing. Nunez, too. They are both young and what better time to learn than when you don't have a chance.
  10. Saw Bartolo in Spring Training and knew at that point we wasted our money, couldn't even throw a fastball more than 86mph. He looks like a weeble on the mound. Get him out of here now.
  11. Wow the Sox do have a flair for the dramatic: http://www.wavy.com/dpp/sports/mlb/sports_...hudson_20090901
