Strasburg officially opts out
What would be the max you’d pay these starting pitchers in years and total dollars?

Strasburg officially opts out
Strasburg being 32 in July and giving him 6 years would scare me. He has missed 5-10 starts 5 of his 8 years pitching. I’d be trying to poach someone from the Astros pitching department to run my pitching development department is what I’d be doing as well as their analytical department.

A Realistic Offseason
He’s worn that hat a lot this season. Many times. He was angry he didn’t get in the game that his team lost in game 7. He said he wasn’t an employee yet he still talked to the media. I have no problem with him for that.

A Realistic Offseason
I want nothing to do with Calhoun or Reddick.

A Realistic Offseason
So just keep doing what we’ve been doing and add nothing of real impact. I’m not worried about draft picks at this time. No matter what they’ll still have their higher pick this year in the first round. It’s time to start winning and to win, you have to sign veterans that make your club a lot better. (Like Cole, Wheeler, etc)

Agree on Grandal. This is a good post.

A Realistic Offseason
They’d have to be getting somebody really legit to add those guys in. Like Mookie if he had more years attached. But I (like most I think) wouldn’t trade either for Mookie with 1 year left unless you’re getting an extension in the deal.

Enlightened Speculation: Yankees AND Dodgers both going strong into FA
Don’t count on the Astros re-signing Cole. They don’t even know if they’ll be able to re-sign Will Harris. They have a big extension to give George Springer. They’re going to be close to or over $200M after that extension or final year of arbitration. The owner has said he won’t go into the luxury tax pretty much every year.

White Sox listed as interested in Marcel Ozuna by Dominican Reporter
I don’t want anything to do with Ozuna.

Plus he's a switch hitter better as a righty, but still had over an .800 OPS last year as a lefty. I'd sign him, he'd be starting 110 games at catcher, 20 at 1B, 20 at DH. Then you have McCann to catch some and Collins to catch some. But Grandal is a big improvement. McCann scares me. He had a wRC+ of 83 in the second half. His career wRC+ is 83. The first half of last year could just be a huge outlier.

Yeah his average I don't care about. His plate discipline though? He walked over 17% of the time. Struck out 22%. Plus the defense is LEGIT. He's got a 25 fWAR total over the last 5 years, 5.2 fWAR last year.

Lopez is frustrating. You can see the talent, but just not near consistent enough. I still think he can be a solid weapon in the rotation, but I think he could be a real weapon with his FB/SL combo out of the pen.

A Realistic Offseason
Would you guy be upset with a rotation of Giolito/Wheeler/Cease/Kopech/Lopez heading into the season? Then if you add a guy like Colin McHugh who can do both, that is good depth to start the season. Plus some depth signings that can be in AAA. They'll have Rodon coming back later in the season and Dunning will be returning from TJS as well early in the season. Plus Stiever should be starting in AA this coming season.

A Realistic Offseason
Having the 26th man this year on the roster is really nice for a guy like Collins.

What kind of deal do you think Grandal gets? He signed last year for 1 year $18.3M with the Brewers. I'd give him 3-4 years up and $20M+ easily.

I really want Grandal.

A Realistic Offseason
He is a realistic upgrade. I am one that wants him. I don't think he'll cost much in terms of trade. I think he allows them to spend on guys like Wheeler, Grandal and/or Martinez.

Madrigal Wins Gold Glove
I think eventually we see 1. Robert 2. Moncada 3. Vaughn 4. Eloy

Madrigal Wins Gold Glove
Putting your 2nd worst hitter 3rd in the order is crazy. You never give one of your worst hitters more PAs than better hitters. I see splitting them up like at spots 6 & 9, but you don't put them 3rd.

Madrigal Wins Gold Glove
I completely agree here. Ideally for me it would be 1. Robert 2. Moncada . 4. Eloy ...... 8. Anderson 9. Madrigal But yes he will win multiple GG in his career.
