  1. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) i saw this hmm KW needs to jump on it! Sometime this evening, before even reading that article, I came to the sad conclusion that there is almost no chance that the White Sox can trade for Adrian Gonzalez. This article out of Boston sums up that it would basically be the new GM hanging himself if he were to trade Adrian Gonzalez without getting an incredible package in return. Do we have the type of assets to put together such an insane package? Sure. But the only way I can even fathom such a package that would make us able to acquire him is if it included Beckham with 2 top prospects. We are obviously not going to do that because most of our fans and our entire front office view Beckham as the possible future face of the franchise. I don't even think Carlos Quentin and prospects for Adrian Gonzalez would be the value that the new Padres GM would want, although I personally think that CQ's offense production has the potential of being better than Gonzo's. I can continue to dream that our package of Flowers, Danks or Mitchell, and two other of our top tier prospects would be enough, but I really think the Padres GM would need to get some type of name back in the deal to be able to hold his head up in front of his fan base. None of the Padres fans know those names. They may know of Beckham though . I brought this up before, but what about trading Alexei? His production based on his contract is pretty decent. He isn't a big name though. It would also open up a hole at 2B/SS, but aren't there a few players on the open market still that could fill that void? Oh well... I need to move on from all Gonzo. It feels like any thought on it is a waste of time.......
  2. Is it me, or does anyone else feel like we need one more hot stove discussion move to make this offseason fully complete. Maybe we are just spoiled Sox fans because isn't KW one of the most active GMs the past 5-6 years? I thought i read that somewhere...
  3. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) but more ideally... pierre Beckham Quentin Thome Konerko AJ Rios Teahen Ramirez even more ideally Pierre Beckham Quentin Gonzalez Konerko AJ Rios Teahen Ramirez
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) I would bet we add another player before the end of the month. Hearing anything good today RockRaines?
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 09:02 AM) Ken Rosenthal reports the Sox are in hot pursuit of Adrian Gonzalez. The Red Sox that is. Well that is depressing.... hopefully this is sparked because KW is in on the trade talks to. Without looking into the PK trade to Angles for a prospect used by us, what would SD want from us that doesn't involve Beckham? I would imagine they'd want Flowers and one of Danks or Mitchell, and then 2 more players at the least.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) Prince is represented by Scott Boras so that is unlikely. Gonzo will be heavily courted by the Red Sox and while the Sox have enough to get Adrian Gonzalez, they can't afford to go toe to toe with them. I know you are curbing my enthusiasm here..... Regarding Prince, if the Sox couldn`t resign him wouldn`t they get 2 draft picks if he ends up being a FA
  7. QUOTE (monomach @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) I don't see how the pen is any better than last year. We ditched Carrasco, who was underrated and picked up a guy that no one is sure still has it. We'll still have Ozzie using an amazing lefty-only guy (Randy Williams) against righties. On the other hand, the rotation is so good that the pen should be "good enough." I was never that much impressed with Carrasco. He would come into a lot of games when we were losing by 5+ runs early. To me, it is easier to pitch 4 innings when your team is losing 6 to 1 in the 3rd, then to pitch 1 inning when it is 4-3 in the 7th or 8th.
  8. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) Lets see: Pierre L Beckham R Quentin R Konerko R Pierzynski L Ramirez R Rios R Teahen L Only 3 left handed bats. . . KW loves that Left handed bat in the middle of the order. I'm going to go on a limb and say he's not finished yet. I hope you are right. Please be Gonzo or Prince!!!! Of course that would move PK to DH FULL TIME, which goes against what Ozzie just said in an interview.
  9. QUOTE (JDSox @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) Tony Pena was lights out in AZ up until last year. Most people thought he should be closing over then-closer Brandon Lyon. He should have a nice rebound year, despite the move to the AL. I think he is going to surprise some Sox fans this year. But then again, I said that about Linebrink when he came over from the NL.... The first half of the first year Linebrink was here he was amazing. Then wasn`t there a cubs game that took place where he gave up back to back homers in the 8th or 9th inning resulting in a 2-1 or 3-2 loss. He kind of went down hill after that... i am going from pure memory here and didn`t verify stats or game logs for this post....
  10. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Hanley Ramirez for Alexei, Hudson and Morel. One of the few trades involving Hudson that I would do. I`m really high on Hudson and don`t want to include him in almost anything
  11. I can`t envision a trade that involves CQ that I would be for anymore. I was OK with the idea of trading CQ to Tampa for Upton because Upton could have been our leadoff and we could then have tried to get middle of the order power somewhere else. With the Pierre trade, any trade of CQ seems stupid to me UNLESS the Sox have a good inclination that the injuries the past two years are going to keep CQ from ever reaching his full potential.
  12. Sounds like another deal may not happen.... http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Ozzie and KW talked today and Ozzie likes what we have and doesn't want a "DH". He really likes the platoon DH idea. I somewhat like the idea of a rotating DH, but I think we are one upgrade in our offense away still.
  13. QUOTE (WCSox @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) I'm not even sure I'd want to trade Danks for two years of Gonzalez, much less Quentin and a top prospect as well. Plus, with the Padres rebuilding, they'd probably be more interested in Hudson. Hudson and Flowers for Gonzalez would make more sense. I am pretty sure the original poster meant Jordan Danks, not John Danks. Or are you that high on the younger brother OF prospect.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) I've got to be honest, I think we are looking at a trade, and I honestly think we are giving up an impact player. I really think KW is shopping Quentin. I still think the PK to Angels trade for one top minor league prospect, which we can then use with some of our prospects for Gonzo makes a lot of sense.
  15. Not to get people riled up, but haven't the sox been rumored to be interested in Gonzalez for more than a few years now?
  16. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) KW may as well go ahead and pull the trigger and bring Prince in. I would totally be down for Prince Fielder
  17. Adrian Gonzalez!!!! Please no Adam Dunn. Love the HRs, but I can't stand strikeouts. Is his K rate higher than Thome????
  18. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) No chance in Hell Baltimore trades Markakis. I know , but I haven't heard his name mentioned before so thought i'd throw it out there, haha
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) I only post what I hear from a probably 3rd hand source of info. Dont know about superior, but I think we'll see another trade. Cool. I'm a long time die hard Sox fan, but I am new to this site
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) I just heard Kenny has a guy in mind and he's in discussion to get him. I don't have anything more than that and anything else I add would be pure speculation. I think he'll make one more hard push at Adrian Gonzalez, but I don't think San Diego is ready to let him go. I honestly don't know who it will be, but I got a sneaking suspicion it won't be anyone we have speculated too heavily about. There just aren't a lot of FA options out there, so you'd have to think the club is looking to go the way of a trade. Awesome. I'm hoping one of the following: Adrian Gonzalez, Nick Markakis, or Carl Crawford. Is that too big?
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) KW isnt done yet BTW. I just hope this was the marginal bat I heard about. What does your post mean? Was KW plan to get a marginal bat and a SUPERIOR BAT such as AGonzo?
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) Well assuming we didn't give up Hudson, we still have Huddy, Danks2, Dayan and Flowers all still around and every hole filled except that big middle of the order hitter(another lefty reliever is obviously somewhat of a hole as well), Kenny might start up the full court press for Mr. Gonzalez. Please be true! If we can get Gonzo, and if we don't give up PK in the process, then we can move PK to DH
  23. Well, I'm definitely not thrilled with this move. There wasn't any way to bring back Pods for real cheap? I guess I was shooting for the stars though thinking the Sox would try to get BJ Upton or Carl Crawford. My question is will we make any more moves or is this it? If this is it, then the offseason is a C+ grade for me (on paper), not including the Rios and Peavy acquisitions.
  24. Would you guys trade for AGonzo with a package centered around Alexei Ramirez? Something like Ramirez, Flowers, Morel, Retherford, & Nix If yes, what options are out there for a replacement SS?
  25. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) yea, if we simply had a bit of a better pitcher prospect than hudson I do not remember where I read this, but I could have sworn I read something that the Padres are looking for ready now players. Didn't they get four pitching prospects from us for Peavy? I could see them looking for position players.
