QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 07:31 AM) Someone just called in saying Gonzalez' club option year is void if he gets traded. Also there's reports he's gonna want Texiera money on his next deal. 10 years $200MM. So I can't see KW giving up much if this is true and they only get him for a year or two. I think the option year is 2012??? a friend sent me this by text If this is true, I actually think this helps the Sox get him. They wouldn't have to part with Beckham and 3 to 4 prospects should be able to get him then. Where did your friend hear this?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 08:14 AM) If KW didn't trade for Gonzalez and it was because Dan Hudson was the sticking piece, he would need to be replaced. When you are as offensively challenged and seemingly always monetarily handcuffed like the White Sox, you don't stop a trade for a 40 homer .400 OBP GG firstbaseman making $5 million a year because a guy might be a #2 starter in a few years. Gonzalez only will make $5 million a year the next 2 seasons. It would make the White Sox far and away the best team on paper and probably on the field in the AL Central. Far greater prospects than Dan Hudson have been traded for far less than the entire package Gonzalez brings, and a good portion of those have been busts. Maybe Hudson is a #2 starter in 2012, but its not like he's the right handed Sandy Koufax. KW would trade him in a heartbeat and not even think twice about it. Well.... IF the Sox and Padres got into negotations on a trade, AND they were asking for just our prospects and we had to give them Hudson or no deal would take place, then of course I think KW needs to pull the trigger. I personally just want to see Hudson on the southside. I followed his games as best I could while he was in the minors, and I watched every time he pitched last Sept. I really think he has potential to be a great SP because he generally has command on his pitches (though he walked a lot more statistically in his few major league appearances last year than his minor league (seemed way out of the norm, possibly could have been nerves)), and hitters seem to not put good "bat" on his pitches. I'd have to do some research from scouts to know for sure, but to my eyes his ball has a good amount of movement. If I remember right he does have a high AO/GO ratio, but a lot of his AOs are weak pop ops. Nonetheless, this forum is all about Gonzo. He definitely would fit perfectly on the Sox. I wonder if the two teams have talked about any trade yet.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 01:46 AM) I wonder if a bad spring from Jones and Kostay would be enough to get KW to relent and put Hudson in the deal for A-Gone. I totally agree with this. I think KW will trade any prospect at this point, but doesn't want to part with Hudson if he can avoid it.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) Trading Alexei or Floyd to be able to hold on to Hudson is not a way to build. Both are a lot more essential to the core of the Sox. I agree with what you are saying, but I didn't state my point clearly after rereading it today. I feel that we need to add more value to some of the packages we are proposing the last 4-5 pages. I think we should hang on to Hudson and include Floyd for two reasons. 1) It would make our offering a heck of a lot more enticing, and 2) we could hold onto one of our top three prospects, and it would be the pitcher since we would be sending Floyd in the deal. Also in my Floyd, Flowers, Mitchell, Morel, and a prospect for Gonzalez and Young, we are helping out the Padres pocket books while giving them a better SP Everyone always says the Red Sox are the favorites because of the past working relationship they had and that Padres GM knows the Boston prospects. But I challenge anyone to consider that the Padres GM knows those players so well that he feels they are overrated. I can't stand "ratings" most of the time because it is generally just opinion based on judgment and use of statistical progressions. After all, some moron ranked the Sox prospects as DEAD LAST in all of MLB. Yet, didn't our entire farm system have one of the better W-L records last year? Also, we have players that are performing. Anyway, my whole point for this paragraph of my post is that the Sox prospects are more likely not as "low" in value as the general population (posters from all teams) think.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 09:01 AM) So nothing's changed, got it. No, post 344 i think The Padres FO and AGon's agent both stated on Tuesday or Wednesday that Gonzalez will not be able to fit into the Padres financial structure. The word was that they had met to talk about his contract and the future. I'm sure his agent said something like he is an 8 year 180M player. Padres said: thanks, we'll trade him now. Or something of that nature went down. It is in two different articles. Here is one again: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/feb/03/1s3sullivan/

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) Maybe the Sox are waiting until Thompson or Mitchell can benamed the PTBNL. They can't do this until April correct? Then they could not be traded/named until June. Sorry just bored. Someone mentioned to me a few months ago that a player can be a PTBNL for 6 months. If that is true, since Mitchell was drafted in June 09, he could be a PTBNL. Maybe i should google it... as I am just repeating what was told to me by another poster.

In my opinion, you do everything and anything that doesn't include Hudson. Dan Hudson looks like a core player for future Sox to me I feel there could be possibilities using Alexei or Floyd as the center piece. Some of the scenarios I'm seeing above don't make sense to me. How often are there 5 for 1, or 6 for 1, swaps in MLB trades. I mentioned this trade a long time ago, but how about Floyd, Flowers, Mitchell or D2, Morel, and one other prospect for Gonzo and Young. Going from memory that saves the Padres like 7M this year. Floyd>>>>>>>>>>Young

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) Mitchell cannot be traded before June, and I am not sure you can do a PTBNL with him either, given that protection. Hmmm.... i think someone mentioned a few weeks ago that a PTBNL can last for 6 months...

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 01:48 AM) I'll add that to the pile of s*** you'll be eating, if Jordan Danks becomes good. I guess we could make a kind of weird taco out of it... just kidding

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 07:19 PM) but but hes listed under free agents I used to work with a guy that was all about getting Dmitri Young before the deadline in 2005. He would bring it up daily to me. It was rather comical because I think he was very serious about acquiring him.

QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) I don't think Dmitri Young still plays in MLB darnit someone beat me to it

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) -Konerko to LAA has no potential whatsoever. They have Morales at 1B, Matsui DHing, and an outfield of Rivera, Hunter, and Abreu. The White Sox will have to explore a different avenue if they are to trade for Adrian Gonzalez, and odds are very good that they won't even consider it due to the cost of it this late in the offseason with good pieces already off the market. -Chris Young is not horribly paid. His contract entails for $6.25 mill next year and then a club option for $8.25 mill. Odds are pretty damn good the Padres are going to be looking to deal him separately at the deadline with the hope that he puts up a good and healthy first half of the season. -Dan Uggla is going to cost waayy too much to be a backup infielder, and I don't know why you'd trade for him when you can just sign Thome or Guerrero to a similar contract without having to give up the prospects. This isn't a video game world. I like my video game world For some reason I thought that Chris Young was being paid closer to $10M this year. My bad. Matsui can play LF and PK would DH.
-
I predict that KW will not make a move before Sox fest. Nonetheless, if I was the GM I would try to do to that rumored deal for Adrian Gonzalez. That trade involving PK to LAA would be something interesting that has at least a small possibility (although probably less than 5%) of actually being a realistic scenario. I would try a package involving Gavin Floyd as a center piece too and we could take back that horribly over paid pitcher Chris Young off SD's hands. If we landed Adrian Gonzalez and had to give up PK in the process, then I would also try to trade for Dan Uggla as our DH/backup IF.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) Gavin Floyd and spects for Adam Dunn oh how id love that, Adam Dunn would make the cell look like a little league field If we are trading Gavin Floyd, we better be getting back Adrian Gonzalez or Prince Fielder. I would NEVER trade Floyd for Dunn.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) If he was going to do that then Laroche would make sense, but I really think that would have been done already. No one's going to want to pick up his contract, and KW isn't going to want to pay $6 million to get someone else to take Konerko in exchange for an average prospect or two and then simultaneously spend $8 million on Laroche. What's wrong with Konerko's contract? Isn't it only one year left at 14M?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) you can go "there" as many times as you want. What happens "there" stays "there" haha!

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) For Rios' 08 production (which is not even his best) plus his glove...it's a market value contract. I agree with this, and hopefully he can return to that too

Best fit is Adrian Gonzalez. "Oh no I didn't go there again!"

QUOTE (Voros @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) Well I'm not really worried about the way they're splitting up the money they're getting from the two deals (time value of money is important but not that important). Money saved this year by that method is money spent next year, so if Johnson's deal was two years at $11.5 the White Sox would be paying significantly more for Pierre and Teahen still. IIRC it's two years and around $13 million total for the two after the cash back is factored in. My point is simply that the White Sox have spent money this offseason in a way that probably could have been spent a little more wisely. A million here and there on Kotsay and Vizquel, a few million on Teahen and four million on Pierre and you're now starting to talk about a fairly decent chunk of change on a group of players that aren't much of an upgrade from the Ryan Shealys that float about the league this time of year at league min. Throw in $3 million on a player like Putz with a good track record but recent concerns and it's actually quite a bit of money that's been spent. Any one of those moves in and of itself really isn't anything to worry about. But in total it seems like there were better ways to spend that money. Could the White Sox still win the division? Sure. But considering what else is going on in this division and the amount of money they're spending, the White Sox should be clear favorites in this division and they certainly aren't that right now. Maybe I've just bought into what the white sox are selling us this offseason, but I love how they've spent their limited money. Did you really want to go into the season again with a bench of Lillibridge, Betemit, Fields, Miller, and Nix? First off that bench is (was) absolutely horrible. Second, and more importantly, we have a manager that constantly will swap out starters to give them a rest at least once a week. We all know how much fun those lazy summer Sunday lineups are.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) In a few days. You can't be a PTBNL for longer than 6 months; if you want to trade Mitchell, you can't do so until After X-Mas I believe. That's good information. Thanks.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) LMAO! The Padres would laugh, puke, laugh some more, puke and then laugh some more if we offered that for AGON. I believe we can't trade Mitchell even if we wanted to because you can't trade guys you drafted until they've been in your organization 1 full year. Somethin' like that. The ONLY legitimate pieces in that proposal would be Floyd and Flowers. And the Padres could get MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more than that. Morel had a nice year. But he'd have to rake at AA over a full season before anybody considers him a legitimate prospect. Retherford? Nix? lol. C'mon now. I don't think it was that bad of a package. I agree that maybe I valued Morel too high in the trade proposal, however, in the deal I proposed we would be taking Chris Young off their hands and his $6.25M salary and mediocre-ness. In the deal I proposed, the Padres save about $7.5M, get two of our top 5 prospects (4 of our top 10), and a young solid starter in Floyd for a reasonable price the 3 years. Seems like fair value to me. Regarding Mitchell, you are correct that you can't trade him until 1 year after being drafted, but isn't possible to make him a PTBNL?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) Man, I'm all about getting Gonzalez, but I don't like that price. I'm with you too on not liking the price... but I think I would close my eyes and make that deal . Floyd has been a very good pitcher with the Sox. He does have tremendous value and still more upside potential, and we would be down that spot in the rotation unless Young can bounce back somehow (unlikely). However, Gonzo could potentially be a 50 HR hitter in the cell. Also, Young is an expiring contract, so we could make a run at another pitcher mid-season or next offseason. Maybe Hudson will be the special pitcher that his upside/potential calls for (a possible #2 pitcher on a team)... by the way, Steve9347, i love the picture of Kane at the bottom of your post. Go Hawks and Sox!
-
, thinking about the Sox trading for Gonzo again this morning.... (someone slap me).... I came up with this Adrian Gonzalez and Chris Young for Gavin Floyd, Tyler Flowers, Jarred Mitchell, Brent Morel, and either CJ Retherford or Jason Nix (if SD wants a player that should be playing right now) Obviously trading Gavin Floyd is not ideal, but I think he has a ton of value based on performance vs. contract. Chris Young appears to be really over paid and not even as good as Floyd in comparison. Thoughts?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) Damon DH Beckham 2B Quentin RF Konerko 1B Rios CF AJP C Teahen 3B Alexei SS Pierre LF I kind of like it, but I think I'd prefer an IF for the last piece of the offseason. I feel like we have 6 OFs on the current 25 roster... Pierre, Rios, Quentin, Jones, Kotsay, Teahen (yes, i know he is our 3B, but he could play OF).
