Taking Schnell at #4 in hopes that a decent HS player slips past the Rays/Royals to round 2 would be pure nonsense.

FS: We've Suffered Enough - Call Up Eloy
Eminor3rd replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox organization might be different, but: As someone who works in marketing/promotions for a minor league team, I can tell you for certain that the MLB player dev team (at least for the two organizations I've worked with) could not possibly care less about accommodating our promotional schedule. -
FS: We've Suffered Enough - Call Up Eloy
Eminor3rd replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If you want to argue that Eloy should be up because he's ready for the Majors, and that the player's development path is more important than Super Two -- that's fine and I'm 100% with you. But that's not the premise of the article. -

When will he stop and wonder why, when he's been running all these years, the finish line has yet to appear? -
FS: We've Suffered Enough - Call Up Eloy
Eminor3rd replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Calling for bringing up a player for the sole purpose of "mitigating the suffering" of the fans, despite the fact that it goers against the development of the player and/or the meta-game strategy of the team's plans is being soft. We're all embarrassed about how bad this team is -- that's why we're pushing so hard for them to do this correctly. Suck it up. Have the discipline to be one of the big boys, like the Astros and the Cubs did. You're right that there's no guarantee, which is why it's so important NOT to b**** out and rush it just so your nightly TV is easier to watch this year. -
Ozzie's was Marty34, confirmed.

FS: We've Suffered Enough - Call Up Eloy
Eminor3rd replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just can't imagine how any fan who has been paying attention still cannot see the forest for the trees here. Do you seriously, SERIOUSLY want to do ANYTHING with the prospects that isn't in their best long-term interest? Do you really think we should call our best prospect up simply to "mitigate the suffering"? Guys I want to fucking WIN A WORLD SERIES. You may not not like that we're rebuilding, but we are, and at this point there's no reason not to do it fully and correctly. Eloy moves up when it's the right time for his development, period. If you gotta do something else with your summer this year, then do it. Stop being soft. Let's fucking DO THIS. -
That's not how WAR works, my friend. It's a counting stat -- so if a pitcher and a position player end up with 4 WAR, they are equally valuable. The pitcher gets more WAR per game than the position player.

The team was always going to suck. What we need is to see a legitimate step forward from Moncada and one of Lopez/Giolito, and for a couple other randoms to look like they might be regulars for a few years (hopefully this is Davidson, Sanchez). Bonus would be a successful cup of coffee from Kopech and perhaps Jimenez. So far, it's not looking great, but there's plenty of time to make it okay.

Which, it seems, every writer except Mayo understood. But since Mayo somehow has one of the widest platforms, fans all over are talking about rumors of second rounders going in the top ten. If you look at that last mock, nearly every pick in the top ten has some random names thrown into the paragraph that no one else is talking about at those picks -- and I'm willing to bet those are similar to Schnell in that they're really second rounders that Mayo has heard executives have seen.

I (and others) have typed thousands upon thousands of words trying to explain concepts to you. You never even read them. The only place people are "towering over you" with stats is in your imagination. We are constantly trying to include you in discussion and you just ignore everything and type the same thing as if no one ever replied otherwise.

I mean I think there a lot of guys that are consistently successful at lower levels. To say a guy is "polished," though, you are saying that his repertoire/command/maturity/etc. have reached or nearly reached their ceiling, which can be good or bad thing depending upon context.
-
I'd be pleased with Bohm. If talent is similar, there are just so many good reasons to take hitters, guys.
-
Based on what I've read, it seems to be a particularly bad year for that strategy, because the Royals and Rays have so many picks between the first and second rounds (and so much extra pool money), that they're extremely likely to pop all the best "surprise fallers" well before the Sox get to pick again at 46
-
What makes you think that? From everything I've listened to/read, Mize seems like one of the most polished prospects ever. The main knock on him seems to be, in fact, that there's no upside because the repertoire and body are so settled and polished.

Some of the stuff Callis has been tweeting lately sounds almost like Onion-style trolling. What MLB executive would ever accept that as a reason for a guy not play SS? What was the other one -- where he said they Sox should draft a pitcher because they need pitchers, then finished the tweet with "you don't draft for need at #4"?

Mayo is consistently horrible.

Those traits are not necessarily correlated with "low ceiling"

TA: I Can Play Anywhere (talking about potential change to OF)
Eminor3rd replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, but only because of arm, allegedly. Which is the same issue with Altuve/Pedroia. Could definitely be a GG, at least according to what I've read. -

I feel like almost every report I've read has plus defense on him at second. -

When it comes to players, greg doesn't care about things like "ability to hit and field," only size, aesthetic, and how good they were when they were on the Royals. -
I can't believe we can't find some guy who can't hit but can actually play the OF to just step in. I mean I'm all for giving guys a chance to stick in a season like this, but do we really think Palka is someone who needs to be seen? How many bad first baseman are we going to stick in the OF corners this year? It's getting absurd.

He came out for the next inning, so I don't think he's hurt. Good
-
Walks the next guy, stretching a lot on the mound. Pitching coach came out but left him in.
-
Rodon just threw the wildest pitch I’ve ever seen. Almost looks hurt? Nope maybe just his pride.
