Official Squared Circle Thread
thxfrthmmrs replied to Rowand44's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Did anyone else notice the fact that Batista now rocks some tight ass jeans, got a tat around his belly button, and waxed his eye brows? -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) Why is MLB radio saying it's down to LA, Cubs, D-backs and Yankees? Because Dodgers will clear cap space for Tanaka by trading Kershaw to the Sox, effectively putting the Sox out of the race. Everybody wins.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 08:41 AM) God some of the noobies here are making this thread unbearable to read at times. Mostly just 14 year olds who are dying to find something to be excited about

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 07:12 PM) When has anybody ever written that the Sox were favorites to land anybody? It certainly wasn't with Abreu, and even with Dunn it seemed like the national media kept pushing other scenarios even when it seemed obvious to everybody that he was going to the Sox. Good thing you brought up Abreu and Dunn because those two are the two biggest contracts in our team history. And tanaka might end up getting more than those two contracts combined. And I believe we offered the biggest contract in Abreu's case. Money isn't the end all be all, but judging by the figures threw out there, other teams are offering a lot more than we can. Which isn't a bad thing, I wouldn't want to see the Sox shell out CC Sabathia money on a guy who's far from a sure thing

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 07:03 PM) MLB writers don't know s*** about Tanaka, he and his camp have been silent this whole time and every "source" that has been cited so far is just the writer's excuse for making up bulls***. Yet if the MLB writers wrote that Sox has the best chance here, some people here would be creaming in their pants

I have not been following too much on the Tanaka sweepstake, but all I know that's confirmed was that we met with Tanaka in L.A. So do people really posted 125 pages of speculations when no one outside of south Chicago see us as serious contenders?
-
This is crazy but if the season had ended today, Durant might just be the run away MVP.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 11:52 AM) If I'm the White Sox- 1. Tell Tanaka there's a whole (very nice) town of only Japanese people 5 minutes from The Cell 2. Pay 100 Japanese $25K each to move into this town 3. Pay 100 non-Japanese $25K each to move out of this town 4. Build a mansion right in the center of the town 5. Sign Tanaka 6. Move Tanaka into that mansion PROBLEM SOLVED. Not sure if you are joking or you are ignorant. Have you actually been in Chicago? Do you know the difference between Chinese and Japanese people?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) Sox outbidding NYY/SEA on this would be a bad move. Could work out, but too risky for this team, IMO. especially when our original plan this off season is to spend some of the payroll savings in the scouting and latin american market to ensure long term success. Throwing 100+ million on this guy would be a bad move.

Not sure if this is posted, but pretty weak s*** on Seattle's part. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1920786...amming-national I am disliking this team more and more. Can't wait till see them get smashed by the Broncos or Patriots in SB.

The only way Melo is coming to Chicago is if he's willing to take a pay cut so we can keep Noah and bring Mirotic to the U.S. otherwise, we are relying too much on a healthy Rose and Melo combo, with no defensive anchor and no offense from the PF spot. It's a dangerous gamble to break up the team for Melo. The other thing is we only offered $10 mil a year on the extension to Deng, who is about the same age as Melo and fits into Thibs philosophy perfectly. So it's hard to imagine the Bulls putting all the marbles in one basket and break up the team for Melo.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 05:55 PM) How many minutes has Greg Oden played this year? Oh yeah, none. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 06:56 PM) Yeah, that Eddy Curry signing really worked out well. Surprised the s*** out of me. C'mon really? I know we hate the Heat, but these posts are pretty biased. On top of my head, the bigger name signings that didn't work out for them the last few years: Eddy Curry, Mike Bibby, Rashard Lewis, Greg Oden. But there are other guys who signed who also performed over the value of their contract: Ray Allen, Mike Miller, Shane Battier, Birdman, and even Beasley this year. And yea, they also made it to the Finals three straight years, so I think things are working out pretty well for them.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 07:54 AM) I think you're underestimating the value of pretty much everything the Bulls got back. The 2nd round picks are really useful currency and hugely important in filling out the bench on a veteran loaded or expensive team, and they're also a lottery ticket in the sense that some of them turn out to be solid contributors. I'd rather have 2nd round picks fill out the bench than guys who are more expensive and in their mid 30's. The pick swap, yeah the value of that may not be stellar, but if the Bulls come together and the Cavs don't, then we could be talking about a swap that's much larger than 3-4 spots. If the Cavs sign Lebron that makes it meaningless, but if this Cavs team hangs around in the teens and the Bulls get back into the 20's, that's a big jump. And the Sacto pick...I really don't care when we get it. It's now a major asset in the next couple years that can be traded. My one worry with it would be that Sacto could stay in the top 10 through 2017 and only have to give up a 2nd rounder, which might well be why Cleveland was willing to move it. Just want to note that probability of signing a vet and contributing is much higher than a second rounder panning out, which is about 30% of them, and that's a generous estimate. And who knows what position the Bulls will be at in 4 years, so it's harder to get excited about the possibility of the pick.

This deal wil do. Would have love to see the Bulls somehow swing a deal with Deng for Greg Monroe and amnesty Boozer.

different s***, same story. Packers beat the Bears again to knock them out of playoffs.

This defensive series is for the season. Let's redeem yourself boys

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brandon Marshall is still better than Jeffry. Does it matter?
-
Tucker deserves no credit at all. Packers already have 11 first downs, could have had more if it wasn't for the fluke interception Rodgers threw, and we are playing against a QB returning from an 8 week injury and a banged up RB. Bears still couldn't stop the Packers from moving the chain nor force any three and outs. Look no further, our run defense is still historically bad, Tucker is good as gone.
-
Guys I don't want to see back next year: Peppers, Wooten, Bass, Frey, Major Wright, Conte, McClellin, Michael Bush, Jay disaster Cutler, Adam chickenleg Podlesh, and Mel f***ing Tucker. It's time to take out the trash tomorrow.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 11:10 PM) STAT OF THE DAY, STAT OF THE DAY.... Robbie Gould, who is the 3rd most accurate kicker in NFL history, has never ranked in the top 5 in FG% in a single season throughout his career. In his 9 year career he's only been in the top 10 3 times. I think with Gould it's more about consistency than elite ability. He's the third most kicker in NFL history because he's consistent year in and year out. The top kickers this year has had years in the past where they kicked in the 70% range. Bears are willing to pay Gould four years at top dollars means they feel he can be a consistent kicker for at least that duration, and I don't have a problem with that.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) I've defended Cutler for the past 4 years against irrational Bears fans. While their complaints were irrational, I'm not going to bother anymore. Cutler's had everything handed to him this year and he's still not an elite level QB. Meanwhile, a 34 year old journeyman outplayed him. Even though you called many Cutler bashers emotional posters and I hate to say I told you so... but I told you so
-
I will go on record and say Aaron Rodgers returns next week to beat the Bears and end their miserable season. The defense is just a joke.

Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
thxfrthmmrs replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
All signs point to Hahn having no interest in long rebuilds. All trades he's made so far, he's only targeting 1 player who's close to ML ready, and not any low A players which would reduce the total amount of talent he can net in the return. -
Ackley, Smoak, and Montero for Beckham, Viceido and Flowers. Busts for busts. Done deal
