Sox sign: Burke, Morales, Loaiza, Heredia, Cooper,
bulokis replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Daubach has hit 20 HRs for the last 4 years. This is a good signing. I think he will make the roster and Rios may not make it. We needed a lefty power bat and we got it now on bench. I thought our bench was our weakness before but Daubach will really be a big help. -

I like Daubach. He becomes our lefty off the bench. Does Daubach plays OF bcoz we have too much 1B? -
I agree Buerhle should be the #1 starter. He deserves to be our no. 1 bcoz he was here before and he earned it through his performance. He is one of the leaders of our team so its fitting to lead our team to 2003 season. I like your reasoning also, that its better to put Colon in between 2 soft tossers to keep the hitters off balance. I dont think our 2 ACES care who is the # 1 bcoz they know they are both #1 and Im so excited to see Colon and Buerhle dominate teams.

Great job finding this article. I liked the things said about Jimenez and I am excited to have Crede for a full season now. I really think Crede has the potential to be an all-star soon and its so nice to finally have a great 3rd baseman after Robin's departure. Another thing I'm excited about is our pitching staff. The article pointed out great things about our rotation and seem to take my little worries on our 3-5 starters away. Garland's ERA 0f 3.31 for the last 2 months is great showing signs that he learned to pitch and had grown already. Wright's 3.41 ERA is also good for the last month if they carry over that confidence they had late last year, this could mean great things for the SOX and for us die hard SOX fans.
-
Same here I'm excited to see Olivo for the whole season. Its so good to have a catcher who can run and play good defense with his arm. I think time is the only thing against Olivo. Its gonna be exciting to have Pudge like defense behind the plate and speed like Jason Kendall all from the cathcer position.

I just watched the the news brief on Colon's press conference and he seems happy to be a White Sox. He said he never hated the Sox while he was in Cleveland but he hated when the SOX hit him so hard when pitching against us. I dont know about the weight issue but he looks good and he has no problem with his own weight. Also when he puts on the Sox uni with all smiles, he jokingly put signs that he wanted a baseball cap bcoz nobody gave him one yet and everybody laughs. I wish he has a good time with us bcoz he seems willing to stay here. I like his attitude and that should help the whole team a lot.

Our bench seems to be our weakness right now so I'd say we get Cruz Jr. and split time with Rowand. Any of the two in the bench or the starter adds our team depth. Gipson is interesting, Daubach and Vander Wal are good for our bench. I would also say we need more pitching so Helling would be a great move. He started 30 games or more last year. He can be our #4 starter and or a luxury as a #5 starter. Hermanson is also interesting along. Suppan, Im not sure bcoz he has a career ERA of 5.00 I think. But the best move I can suggest is sign Lieber. Sign him 2 years, even if he doesnt start this year or just half of the year we have him for 04 season. Who knows what can happen this year and if Colon resigns back we have Buerhle-Colon-Garland-Lieber-Rauch or Wright.

I would say Garland also. He has a chance to be one of the best young pitcher in the game. I heard Sandy Alomar Jr. talk about Garland and all he said JG need to work on is just be focus and consistent. I watched the game when he pitched against Boston where he almost had a no hitter 'til late in the innings I think and he looked awesome. And then he went for consecutive starts looking like a dominant pitcher after that. With our 1-1 punch of Buerhle and Colon, if Garland steps up big it could mean lots of wins for the Sox and giving the whole team a great attitude towards the season.

Thanks for the info on Rios. I looked at his stats and he hit about .269 and 14 HRs in 2001 season. Hopefully he regains that back this year. Are you guys excited about this upcoming season? Its a good thing that finally we made a BIG Headline and everybody is talking bout the sox now.
-
Hey Jason, I just heard that the Sox signs Armando Rios pending the physical. Do you know anything about this guy?
-
Thanks, Gordon has the same stuff as Ozuna right outside of any injury? Well I hope Gordon can come up big for us. I agree with you that Palmeiro is a good option but I really like Cruz Jr. We need his Switch-hitting power specially on the left side.

I started a thread last night from what I heard from ESPN radio 1000 and I was excited to hear the Whitesox are actually involved with the talks on Colon. Today I got home from school, I was shocked and very happy that WE ACQUIRED BARTOLO COLON. I never thought we would get Colon but I could live with the thought that KW prove me wrong bcoz this move is definitely a GREAT MOVE. I am happy also to see we didnt lose any of our future guys like Garland, Wright, Rauch, Malone, Honel, Borchard etc.We lost Ozuna which I think is a good move bcoz we are paying him a lot of money. Biddle has great stuff but he always give up that 1 homerun that puts the other team ahead. Well, for Liefer, he wanted out so now he is out. So with two guys out of our pen, who is KW going to sign bcoz I read somewhere KW is close to signing a replacement for Ozuna? Also we need another OF so who is the possible option( is Jose Cruz Jr. a possibility?) Overall, KW just made my day. This is so nice to have 2 ACES in our rotation and deciding who is #1 and 2 is a great problem to have in a baseball team.

Ok with all the confusion, the station again said that Colon or Vazquez will definately going to be traded this week and the teams Expos are talking to are Yankees, Red Sox and the WHITESOX.
-
Just heard right now on ESPN radio 1000 that the Expos will trade Colon by the end of this week. The news update said that a 3 team deal is in the works b/w the Yankees, Expos and the WHITESOX. The Expos gets Ramiro Mendoza. The Whitesox get Colon (didnt say who would we trade or what players the Yanks get.)
-
Same here, I had no idea how successful Maggs can be in the majors. If I remember correctly, I heard Hawk or DJ or may be some other telecast of one of the games last year that Maggs was almost left out of 40 man roster when he came up. The sox had to decide b/w Maggs and Lyle Mouton on who will the sox let go. Whew! Wasnt that a close one.
-
Probably true but all this trade talk is fun, so what the hell. At first I was excited about all the trade rumors about the SOX getting Colon. But now I also dont believe we will get him or anybody else. For me, its better to feel this way than being disappointed. Besides, I can live with being wrong if KW actually got us somebody!
-
Hey the Marlins gave up on getting Colon and instead they got Mark Redman of the Detroit Tigers. Redman is a lefty starter who had 8-15 with 4.21 ERA. The fish gave up 2 minor league players. I wish we could have gotten Redman bcoz his numbers could end up pretty good with our offense. It would have also given us another lefty starter we surely need. Well, at least the Marlins are doing some things to better their team being one of the small market teams and all! KW wake up!!! Get us a starter (or 2 veteran pitchers) that is real good and not filled with your over-hype scouting reports about the player who you really had an eye for a very long time. If its not too much to ask, wake up and do something, do something, do something!!!!
-
Wouldnt it sound nice to have 2 ACE pitchers on our SOX rotation. Heck, I would rather have a controversy on who is our real #1 starter if we have Colon and Buerhle rather than going without anybody added in our rotation. I hope we still have a shot on Colon or Vazquez bcoz any one of them will fill a huge hole in our team. Hope KW do something soon.
-
Helling would be a sweet pickup if the Sox were to deal Wright in the Colon deal, then they'd be able to pick up another back of the end guy. I guess the Expos don't want Brad Penny, that or their just wasn't much truth to the rumor. It doesn't make sense to me. Its freakin hard to just sit and wait for anything to happen. Its so hard not to visit Soxnet and Soxtalk bcoz I dont want to disappoint myself again and again. But here I am just like you guys, true WhiteSox fans. Right now, I am just happy to see teams giving up on Colon trades bcoz I am really hoping we get him. I definitely want Colon on our team bcoz that gives us two 20 game winners(possible) and thats 40 wins-almost half way to a winning season. Helling is a great pick up. How much would it cost us if we sign him? I would be happy to get Colon/Vazquez and add in Helling. The upcoming season seems promising with our starters already on hand and add in 2 veteran pitchers.

I agree this offseason sucks. I am like you guys, I still cant believe we didnt get Milwood bcoz Phillies gave up nothing and so what if Milwood cost lots of money but isnt that what they have promise to get a #2 pithcer. There was Milwood available. I cant stand to see other teams stacking up with free agents and trades to better their teams. The sox on the other hand doesnt want to do anything, and doesnt want to spend money. There are clear weaknesses on our team and they havent done anything to fix it. Would it hurt to make some additions like a starting pitchers, CF, etc to help the SOX move closer to the smell of being the champs. What the hell, KW and JR really suck. Spend some money and the fans will come out
-
With all the ticket price hike and all star festivities on the wings, they better get somebody big who can help us compete this year. We have 8 million now to spend and still it would still be 50 mil. then they should use that money. KW said that fans will come out if they present a great SOX team, then use the money to better the team's future cheap asses.
-
I dont want to see Buerhle go. I think he is just showing KW the way the SOX players should be treated. Its good for him to get a lot of money and force these cheap ass mgt to spend money. I always heard him say on interviews that he love to stay with the sox so I am hoping he does.

Article: Colon Would Provide Sox with Final Pie
bulokis replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hopefully for all the other players KW didnt care to get, he can give us Vazquez or Colon. I think all the SOX fans have been patient enough and disappointed too much bcoz our mgt has not been active this off season. So hopefully, we get something bcoz we can really compete this coming season if we get a GOOD Pitcher/s. I just read from MLB.COM, where they rate teams from 0-10 on who can compete for the World Series. The SOX is at 4/10 points bcoz "the sox had remarkably been quiet" during the offseason. Just to add insult to injury, the Twins is at 8/10 points and the Cubs at 6/10 points. I just look at the stats of Vazquez and he is pretty good with double wins for 3 years out of 5 years in the big league. He also had good ERA so I think he can really be a good help for the following reasons: he is young and could come a lot cheaper than Colon. -
Yeah I think Helling is a good option to go that way. Like I said 2 veterns starters should be good enough to take us to the playoffs and who knows what will happen next, we just need to get to the playoffs. Ponson is going to be a good pick up also. If we get Helling and Ponson, our rotation looks promising with Buerhle, Garland, Wright and Rauch on the wings. If I recall KW wanted Ponson last year, so if we would make an offer, who will be our bait?

This new board looks good. The color scheme with the SOX colors would be good but you guys did a great job. Now it so pleasing to the eyes to read and reply to the board specially checking back here everyday. GOOD JOB GUYS!!
