  1. this is the make or break inning for Peavy here, top of the lineup coming, let's see what he got.
  2. Detroit coming back vs KC, its 4-2 and Chen is getting hit hard at the moment.
  3. Peavy reaching the 75 pitch barrier shortly.
  4. still velocity is low... but he's getting guys out, let's hope he doesn't hit that bump in the 6th inning.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) I almost thought Peavy would pull a Contreras there. Not watching the game, what happened?
  6. Flowers has pretty good plate discipline, something that is quite rare in our farm system.
  7. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) If JFP has a great 2012, he should sign for the league minimum with us as a way to pay back all of the money he stole as a member of this ballclub. Just sayin. I certainly think he will be willing to do that, after all just like Ozzie said he has never seen anybody like him work so hard to come back from such injury despite making that much money. Most ppl would just quit and won't give a s***.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Peavy's stuff has been nothing more than ordinary this year. Considering that he has been pitching on 6 days rest most of the year, I don't know that it will get better over the offseason. Well there is a chance that it might, since he will be going back to his routine offseason workout rather than Lat rehab which kept him from maintaining his overall strength. This is year is pretty much catchup to strength and stamina.
  9. Is Peavy velocity low today... Gameday has it 88-90 pretty much.
  10. why no offspeed pitches there vs Mauer?
  11. Good Win, great start by Stewart and an amazing job by the bullpen!
  12. Great job adding those insurance runs
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) No they won't. You know why? Because they actually have to acquire him as a FA and they won't know what other teams will offer him. The team that uses W-L as a reason to offer him less money will lose him to the Yankees. True, Yankees will overpay, any idea how Danks feels of Chicago, would he take a discount to stay with the Sox. I am quite sure he's comfortable and good friends with alot of the guys. But on the flip side he can be actually frustrated due to the lack of offense especially in his starts.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) Stop it with this W-L bulls***. Most of wins and losses is out of the starting pitcher's control. It's completely useless to use in evaluating a pitcher. LOL yea I know that's a pretty bad indication for Danks as we know he deserves to win a handful of games but any team thats gonna be in on Danks are gonna use that stat to their advantage when negotiating a deal.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:22 PM) Didn't Crain work a couple extra nights already this week? Crain only pitched 2 innings in the month of August. But hey, Frasor got the job done. But an interesting move by Ozzie tho.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) If Jon Danks hit the FA market this offseason, He'd get $15-17 a year for 5-7 years. If he would sign for 10-12 million a year under any circumstances, he'd have been extended by the Sox 2 years ago. That's ridiculous, an under .500 pitcher getting that much money.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) Take a look at John Lackey's contract. 5 years, $82 mil. He had a career ERA of 3.80, pitching in a better pitchers park than Chicago (Anaheim), he's a righty while Danks is a lefty, and Danks is going to hit free agency 3 years younger than Lackey. Well ERA is around the same, but Lackey's record was far better (102-71), and he won a World Series and won the AL ERA title in 07. I say the case with Danks is u give 10-12 million per year, if not you show him the door (maybe u put an option of 13 or 14 million like in the 5th year or something)
  18. Whoa Rios going opposite field
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 08:58 PM) Buehrle? Really, no. That's just about where Buehrle was. Well Buerhle had a hell of a 2005, 3X allstar and a World Series Ring under his belt when he signed the extension. Danks has nothing, just a career under .500 pitcher (yea I know bad 1st year, but still). I just don't see how Danks would earn Buerhle type of money.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) Why not? He's not an elite type of pitcher, Era is around 3.7. When Buerhle and Peavy got those type of contracts they were a class beyond Danks.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 08:48 PM) I think it's pretty clear at this point that extending D1 is impossible, unless we want to pay him into the $100 million range. Once you realize that, it forces some of your decisions. Peavy, Sale, Humber, and Floyd are the starting points, then you have Stewart now as an option and Buehrle if you have the money to bring him back, and any P you get back by trading Danks or Quentin. Why is Danks gonna get that much money. He hasn't been that type of money... he's good no doubt but not a type of pitcher that gets 15 million or something.
