  1. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Hey, when did Beckham change his number to 42? Someone's been living under a rock ... just like how one questions Dunn's talent
  2. funny thread here still ... opened up by the guy who thought Beckham changed his number to #42... hahaahaha
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2355515:date=Apr 14, 2011 -> 10:40 AM:name=southsider2k5)-->QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) <!--quotec-->I wouldn't cut him, but I have no problem with him becoming the long reliever. I think I'd rather keep Humber for that role. The problem is once Peavy comes back, who do you get rid of if you want to improve the bullpen? Crain, Thornton, and Santos aren't going anywhere. Despite his struggles so far, Sale has the potential to be our best reliever this year, so I don't see KW sending him down. Ohman is signed for another season and we all know how much Ozzie loves his lefties. If you want to add someone to the pen, it comes down to Pena or Humber going and I'd keep Humber right now. Not that I think he's anything special, but I feel more confident with him as our emergency starter than Pena. Didnt we just add Jeff Grey by sending down Milledge.... so can`t we just send down Grey once Peavy returns?
  4. "Peavy will start on the 18th and 23rd. If he hits 100 pitches both times, he could be back for that Baltimore home game April 29" (twitter via scottmerkin) I dunno if he can reach up to 100 on his next try maybe he can, he did pitch 72 today in the game and also threw in the bullpen (so in total maybe he threw some where between 80-90 today)
  5. I don't blame Ozzie for not bringing back Buerhle or Danks in their recent games
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) I think 72 pitches is ok. No idea where his velocity is at. I think he's going to have 2 more rehab outings, and then he'll be up around the 29th. Home vs Baltimore for a return? Hmm you think so .. i think they may want him to put in two 100 pitch outings b4 being back up, which then means he will be up around the first week of May (I think Cooper said May 3rd was one of his pitching dates)
  7. looks like he's done for the night... so another 72 pitch outing ... not really a gain/progress from his last start (he didnt get through 6 innings however, more than his last outing). Anyone think they should have sent him for one more inning? Or is it okay to just keep slow rather than push him? Some1 just tweeted that he apparently he went into the bullpen to get a little more work done
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) There is nothing positive about Thornton's struggles. If Sale can't be an impact reliever, then we're totally wasting a year of development of his. Matt is just struggling with his command, this can be fixed, atleast he isnt hurt. MT is too good of a pitcher to not turn it around. Not too concerned with fastball velocity (Fangraphs shows his fastball avg 96.1 mph, while this season hes at 95.6 which is just right around his career avg). Its just a matter of commanding the ball, pretty much what Ohman was going through early on in the season. He just needs to keep his head high, and one to fix it atleast to remove the pressure off of him by removing him from the closer's role. Not too concerned at, this is the game of baseball, s*** like this happens, things will turn around for the bullpen.
  9. I think there is way too much panic here ... I look at it as a good thing that we have blown these games early so that we can actually iron out the pen and put the guys in the correct places. I know it sucks to lose these games especially in this manner, but i think it may help in the long run of the season. What we have learned is that Thornton sucks right now, so we yank him out of the closers role and put Santos in. This may be a great thing in the long overhaul of the season. Only time will tell how Santos will perform. But again its only April 13th, ton of baseball left to play, and heck we are 7-5 while Detroit and Minnesota are atleast 2.5 games behind us at the moment. On the downside however we have a tough schedule coming up, with the Angels top pitchers up against us.
  10. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) Again, you ASSUME that Santos and Crain will be better. They may be, and I'm all for removing Thornton, but that doesn't change the fact that you are basing this on an assumption. Because they can pitch in the 8th, they can close. Well, they assumed that about Thornton, too...and that assumption turned out to be wrong. See how these are ALL assumptions? That doesn't make your opinion on this inept, it just makes it what it is. And no, it doesn't make your assumption more credible than mine. I've been saying for days that I don't want Thornton closing. Your right that its all assumption where we think that Sergio may succeed based on his 7th/8th inning role... but the way sergio has been throwing the ball there is no obvious reasons to why he would falter. Thornton on the other hand if some of you may have noticed wasnt really that great in spring training either and the velocity drop to about 95 was apparent. Matt is just pitching poorly right now it has nothing to do with 8th or 9th inning he just flat out sucks at the moment.
  11. might as well make Jake Peavy our closer now
  12. this guy has a pretty decent pickoff move, way to hard to run on him, I dunno why they didnt learn after the first pickoff.
  13. ppl tend to forget that this guy was the best pitcher in the league not too long ago ... give him a chance to prove himself.
  14. KC pitcher seems to have settled down while that cant be said about floyd
  15. how does the velocity on Gavin's fastball look?
  16. damn it looks like Floyd is in his bad April mode again
  17. Hey there ...my first post on this board...hope I fit in with this group. I am extremely excited for this season and for sure that optimism was not wasted in the first series. Let`s keep it going and beat KC
