I can't figure out what I want to do Friday night. How am I supposed to figure out what the Sox are going to be doing in July 2016?????

Is it just my TV/cable, or is TBS' sound out of sync with the picutre? I'm hearing the ball hit the bat a split second before I'm seeing the ball hit the bat.

A lot of state schools have $1B+ endowments, too. Especially the ones with the better medical schools.

I have a hard time swallowing taxpayer subsidization of higher education when so many universities have $1B+ endowments.

OK, not related directly to the shutdown other than it's the hot political issue of the moment, but here is an idea I've been kicking around: Left or right, I think we can all agree that a big part of the problems with current politics is that elected officials are making too many decisions based on future re-election prospects and not enough decisions based on what they actually think is the best thing for the country. So, lets have the elected officials face fewer elections. It would of course take a constitutional amendment but: 1) Presidential term is increased from 4-6 years but limited to one term. 2) House term is increased from 2 to 3 years and is limited to 8 terms. 3) Senate term remains 6 years but is limited to 4 terms. Election years move from every three years to every six years. In years divisible by 6, there are elections for President, half the Senate, and all of the House. In years divisible by 3 but not by 6, there are elections for the other half of the Senate and all of the House. This of course doesn't come close to solving all of the problems with the current political system, but I do think it's a good start.

I know you don't like Donnelly, but as a conservative you have to admit he'd be a massive upgrade over Harry Reid.
-
Can we just let Joe Donnelly run everything and tell the other 99 to go home?

What?? I don't think so.

Why would Democrats want to actively halt the destruction of the GOP?
-
That exactly sums up why the Republicans have no chance to beat Hillary in 2016. The candidates with the best chances of defeating Hillary have no chance at surviving the primaries. The Tea Party will absolutely destroy Christie.

They're hiring a ton down here, but they're all seasonal. They hire a s***load of temps every year for the Christmas season.

Take this personally: If you've never had a positive experience with a Federal employee, it's because you're a f***ing asshole. For example, lots of people have had positive experiences with me, but you haven't.

I would take the under, because October 8 is the last day the shutdown can end without everybody missing a paycheck. I think Congress knows that's the tipping point for their re-election hopes.

I want to make this clear that I'm not joking: f*** YOU!!! I actually wish bad things would happen to you.

Right now I'm watching a group of people, comprised mostly of men, wagering huge sums of money. You can't believe a word they say and most of the time they're bluffing. But at 9:30, I'm turning off C-SPAN to watch some poker.

Yes, kids are expensive to raise and we are living paycheck to paycheck because we've chosen to live near the best elementary school in the area and sending our youngest child to the best preschool in the area, plus my wife is now taking classes full-time instead of part-time. Also, we've chosen to put all of our extra income into my retirement account instead of something more liquid due to the employe match. My next paycheck would normally come on 10/12. Our only option to cover for the loss of income is to withdraw from my retirement account, which incurs a penalty of 10% of the withdrawal plus a loss of the employer's match to my retirement contributions for 6 months. Aside from the money I'd be taking out it would be an additional hit of about $3000. It takes about 10 days to get the money so I pretty much have to decide by tomorrow whether or not to do this. The fees from simply paying all my bills late would probably be less than the $3K, but then there's the hit to the credit rating. We've already had to 'furlough' the babysitter, because we can't afford her plus I'm home now anyway. Would be a nice gesture if Congress would at least waive the penalties for dipping into our retirement accounts.

I've gotten a couple of those, and I lived 200 miles away from the interview site.

So somebody could watch 14 hours of nearly-continuous football Sunday. I say nearly-continuous because depending on how long games run, there is usually about a 30 minute window between the end of the late afternoon games and the Sunday night game.

With no more games against the Sox, will Cleveland keep Kipnis on their roster for the playoffs?
-
You know Duke, you can just go f*** yourself right up the ass. I'm getting my furlough letter in about 30 minutes and my family of four is going to be without its sole source of income. I didn't do anything to you or anybody else to deserve this. If you think that there are too many government employees that's fine, but if you think suddenly cutting off the income of a million employees who haven't done anything wrong is fine, then you are a disgusting person.

As far as I'm concerned, anybody outside of Chris Sale and Avisail Garcia is fair game.

Depends on the timing. Indiana made a killing on the Toll Road. If they tried to make that deal again now they probably wouldn't get 75% of what they got back then. Huge win for the state.
