  1. I think you have to balance need and best available. If the top guy at your position of need is the 5th best available player, you take him. If he's the 15th best available player you go ahead and take the #1 guy.
  2. I'm not pro-gun, but I do think that's an exaggeration of the position and a bad analogy. Banning something (drugs, abortion, guns) will greatly reduce their use because the overwhelming majority of citizens are law-abiding and the risk of arrest/prosecution is higher than the reward for breaking the law. However, regardless of what you are considering banning, there are those who will disregard the law. Also, aside from the fetus in question, whatever abortion laws that exist don't present a threat to the lives of citizens. You may or may not agree with it, but the pro-gun folks will say that their own safety and the safety of others can be compromised by gun laws, so that's a big difference.
  3. So if Kansas allowed gay marriages this guy would have been off the hook?
  4. Just start discussing the futility of the Cubs beginning with 1909 and the other side will give in pretty quickly.
  5. The legal standard is that sperm donors who go through a doctor are not considered a legal parent, but those who do not are. And I understand that standard completely because outside of a doctor's supervision there really isn't proof as to how the sperm got there so to protect the children that's how it needs to be.
  6. Alabama's perception is based on their performance in the SEC, which is proving to be weaker than people thought, but if you want to hand me some money by giving me ND and 10 points, I'll gladly take it.
  7. No, the article said that he dropped off containers and the women performed the insemination themselves. The guy is an idiot. First, for not knowing his liability under the law, and secondly, for agreeing to do it this way because if the women can't afford to use a doctor to do this then that's a sign they might at some point have trouble supporting the child financially, so it shouldn't be a surprise that it has reached this point.
  8. I'm not saying Cutler is in a league with the others you've mentioned, but with even an average offensive line and the RB/WR Cutler has, he's plenty capable of putting up some great numbers. You stick Brees, Rodgers, or Manning behind the Bears OL and they probably don't even survive the season.
  9. SEC is horribly overrated. Can't believe people still think Alabama wins by double digits.
  10. I'm keeping Sale unless Stanton shows willingness to ink a long term deal and Sale does not.
  11. If I could only keep one of Peppers, Urlacher, and Hester, I'd definitely choose Peppers.
  12. For professional athletes, "married" does not generally mean "off the market"

  14. Yes. I think NBC had the Gator Bowl/Fiesta Bowl/Orange Bowl trio, ABC had the Citrus Bowl/Rose Bowl/Sugar Bowl trio, CBS had the Cotton Bowl, and ESPN had the Hall of Fame Bowl. There were always at least 2 games on at the same time so you never had to watch commercials.
  15. Les Mis is the first movie I've seen in a theater in 5 years, and I loved it. I have to admit I didn't fully understand the plot when I saw it on stage several years back, and the film made the plot make much more sense. Jackman was an amazing Valjean, Crowe played the part of Javert superbly but his singing wasn't great, and Helena Bonham Carter and Sasha Baron Cohen were perfect as the Thenardiers. Oh, and when they sang "Do You Hear the People Sing" at Lamarque's funeral, it was hard for me not to stand up in the theater and start singing with them. Very moving.
  16. You have to have Dunn batting in front of two of your best hitters or else all his walks get wasted.
  17. 10 Yes 9 Baltimore 8 Yes 7 Yes 6 Yes 5 Keppinger 4 Yes 3 Yes 2 Yes 1 No
  18. He was secondary coach at ND for a year or two while I was there.
  19. Bears have a tough schedule next year playing the NFC North. Four games against teams that won 10+ games and two more against a team with 10-win talent if they ever get their heads out of their asses.
