  1. I insulted a guy and the whole exchange, even less nasty parts, got deleted. That’s fine. I accept that, and I restated my position in a way that still stands so I suppose nobody had a problem with it. But a few pages ago a mod called a dude an irrational twelve year old. It’s still there. Am I to assume that’s OK?
  2. Think what you want. Just try to follow your own rules.
  3. Sure, when I was 17 or so. I mellowed out (for the most part) and now I definitely see that the mods permit themselves a level of snark not tolerated from the proles.
  4. They serve a purpose. More casual fans means greater attendance means greater revenue means more spending to improve the team and fan experience. Then again, JR doesn't seem interested in that sort of spending, so the hell with those sorts, I suppose.
  5. Being a mod exempts him from the personal attack rule.
  6. I'd say you missed James McCann, but he doesn't even qualify as "mediocre crap", does he?
  7. Agreed. I will not find another team to support. I am a White Sox fan for life. It is as central to who I am as my own name. But I don’t need to feed it any money when that honest investment does nothing but line Reinsdorf’s pockets. I invest for my entertainment, not for his personal wealth-building.
  8. You need to live up to your reputation today. We are NOT signing Harper. Some lesser, shitty free agent who will do nothing but suck and leave us in fourth place, sure. Bryce? No.
  9. Yeah, it was a stupid plan and I've said so from day one. That wasn't going to be the deciding factor in getting Manny, and it was cheap of us to try. And outside of that idiotic incentive, neither of those players have any actual value on the baseball field. .738 OPS last year for Alonso. As a firstbaseman. He SUCKS.
  10. I'm in Texas but I do the single team package. Does that revenue go to the Sox? That's gonna motivate me to cancel.
  11. Now that Manny's gone, we can sign Gio, Jose Bautista, Adam Jones, and Marwin Gonzalez, so we can focus on putting together a winning roster, like Kenny says. Winning roster, as in "winning 73 games". Someone convince me in the next eight days to cancel MLBTV. Please.
  12. Since I live in another part of the country, I hope I develop telepathy so I can still abuse Jay and Alonso. Fuck those guys.
  13. Exactly. They were given the opportunity to beat it, just like I said they would. They failed. Still shouldn't bid against yourself, but you need to bid big when there's competition. They didn't.
  14. I'm here. I was a big proponent of "don't bid against yourself". Still am. The Sox failed because they didn't beat the offer. I'm certain they were given the chance. There was no reason to up their offer if it was in the lead, but they blatantly failed to do so even when they were no longer in the lead and the end was nigh. That's on them.
  15. I'm not super familiar with Melville, but wasn't Captain Ahab's fatal problem that he was willing to chase the damn whale to the ends of the Earth? Clearly, that doesn't apply here.
  16. Why's everyone so upset? We still get to watch Moncada try to not strike out 200 times, Anderson try to reach the glorious .700 OPS mark for the first time in a full season, Luis Robert/Alec Hansen/Dane Dunning/Jake Burger/Micker Adolfo/Carlos Rodon try to play something even close to full seasons, Giolito try to post an ERA under 6, Zack Collins try to hit .250 at AA, and Luis Basabe try to play well enough to be worth caring about at all. In positive news, I'm fairly confident that Eloy will hit .280 with an .800 OPS, Luis Gonzalez will continue to rise as a prospect, and ReyLo will perform as a serviceable #3 starter. Yeah, probably not enough to excite me any more than last year's losers. But at least we have Alonso, Jay, and Nova!
  17. Barely playing at all is part of the problem. And he had 79 PAs in the AFL. Before that, he had about 250 PAs with a 25% k-rate.
  18. I’m not big on Robert. Too fragile, too many strikeouts. Hope I’m wrong.
  19. Man, this thread makes me feel like I live under a rock. Happy Death Day? Alita: Battle Angel? Aladdin and Pet Semetary remakes? I know nothing about any of these. I have heard about Bird Box. Doesn’t interest me in the least. Monsters can kill you if you see them so our protagonist wanders the landscape wearing a blindfold? Yeah, whatever. I did in the last few months see Aquaman and Operation Finale in theaters. Mega enjoyed both, and I don’t give a shit about the Oscars, but OF should have at least been considered. It was an excellent entry in a genre I love, but which has had some recent stinkers (Entebbe- worst movie I’ve ever seen, Dunkirk- why tell that story in some goofball non-chronological fashion, and I feel like there was one other historical epic recently which was so bad I totally forgot it). Would like to watch They Shall Never Grow Old. Colorized, voice-overed, real WW1 footage? Yes, please.

    Amazon HQ2

I can't comment on and don't really care about Greg's long-time MO, but again, if that person was using properly-conducted polling, then it's not unjust blanket outrage. It's a valid argument that NYers are not fans of how this played out. I'll stop beating the dead horse on that one. Also, your girlfriend is tied to major metros, but Chicago doesn't qualify? Interesting.

Dismissing his news gathering just because it's News Corp is weak. The author in Greg's article refers to polling done by Siena College indicating that a majority of NYers wanted Amazon to come in. That would back him up, somewhat scientifically, that people in that city are pissed. But all you did was scoff that News Corp =/= New Yorkers. What about the poll? Do you have something to refute it and its findings? Congrats on actually liking flyover country. If you dislike the NYC subway so much, you could actually move out here. It isn't just nice to drive through; it is in fact a nice place to live.

    Amazon HQ2

This is an insanely awful post. Everyone's focused on the "big chunk of change" that Amazon wasn't going to pay, but completely ignoring the much larger chunk which they were going to pay. Assuming you could have gotten your dysfunctional government and idiot mayor to do something right, that money could have been used to fix the subway system. But instead, you chose no additional tax revenue. Good job! Amazon doesn't have a responsibility to invest in "low-and-mid-income housing, transportation and other infrastructure projects". No company does. Their investment was going to be in paying 25,000 New Yorkers on a long-term basis, who then could have spent that money on anything they pleased, be it low-income-housing or strippers. But the politicians made that choice for them- they will not be spending that money on anything at all. Good job! Nice jab at "flyover country" at the end there. Feel free to look down your nose at us hicks, but I live in a beautiful and clean city with good traffic flow, low crime, and low cost of living. Enjoy your fucked up subway system.
  23. I'm not an agent myself, but lying about an offer to entice a higher bid would be massively unethical. We should assume, if Lozano tells us a number, that it's valid.
  24. Uh huh. You can just confess. I won't judge you.
