Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
I just spoke with Bowden. He said he doesnt want to see Fowler on the White Sox. Plus if we dont sign Cespedes or Upton your probably finishing last in the division.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Just for what it's worth Jim Bowden thinks that Cespedes signs by/on Friday.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
If anybody wants to read something that will make you roll your eyes read Scott Merkin's latest article. It seems that he refuses to listen to projections or past metrics when judging players/teams. Atleast that's from what I gather.

Opening Day - Who's standing in our OF (Poll)
I voted for Avi. Rick Hahn will pay for that mistake during the deadline when we have to trade one of our better prospects.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:35 PM) True, but it's hard to imagine them raising it a lot after last season. One would have to assume season ticket sales are down from last year. As we heard so often, they went after Melky due to an increase in ticket sales. I think the ticket sales would increase quite a bit if they made another somewhat significant addition.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:22 PM) Sounds like a job for Will Venable Well he would certainly fit the "Our OF really sucks" competition that we're trying to have.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Keep in mind that Dan Hayes said that Brett Lawrie might be our only acquisition. Plus he was iffy on those reports too.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:16 PM) So Merkin and Hayes are on the same page...maybe the Sox should have seen what Davidson could do as well Shouldnt have traded Josh Phegley either. Let him start at catcher.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
It's pretty interesting that Scott Merkin doesnt seem to evaluate any of the facts about Garcia. Instead he just keeps repeating "1st full year".

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
I mean say you dont add anyone and the lineup has Garcia in it. If Lawrie isnt hitting the bottom of that lineup is one huge black hole. Atleast there's some hope for the catcher platoon. Even if Lawrie is hitting that lineup still doesnt look good at the bottom.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 10:37 PM) You guys sure like to freak out about Twitter rumors. I'm not freaking out. But it would piss me off to see Cespedes back on the Tigers and for the foreseeable future. All while we have some fool in the OF who cant hit and is part of the collective(the entire OF last year) that surrendered 3-4 games worth of runs

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 10:02 PM) If the Tigers want him they will easily outbid the Sox Quite easily if they choose.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 09:59 PM) Oh yay, this would easily be worst case https://mobile.twitter.com/JonHeyman/status...930590360518656 Hahn is too busy kicking rocks right now to worry about our division rival getting a really good OFer.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 05:08 PM) For who, though? They don't need Anderson...you're willing to part with Adams and everything remaining on the shelf but Fulmer? For a rental? Probably not. I doubt either of them would be in the conversation anyway.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 04:43 PM) Wonder what would happen then. Trade Gomez and play Rasmus in CF? I'd take Gomez. I wanted him at the deadline last year.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Peter Gammons @pgammo 2m2 minutes ago Thrice today I had execs say "watch the Astros on Cespedes." 5th best HR park in MLB in '15. Good lineup. OK, I'm watching https://twitter.com/pgammo I'm not sure if I buy this one....definitely not the Larry King tweet

Avi Garcia agrees to deal 1yr/2.1m
QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) He'll be starting in RF for the White Sox on opening day. If that happens they are going to pay for it at the trade deadline. When they are forced to upgrade if they are anywhere near the playoffs.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Jon Heyman @JonHeyman 9s10 seconds ago to clarify, mets do NOT have a 1-year offer currently on table. theyd talk about 1-3-yr pacts if cespedes came off long deal https://twitter.com/JonHeyman Ok so in that case we would definitely be out of the running. He's still thinking long term.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
That doesnt sound like he's saying the White Sox are back in. That just sounds like he's just putting the pieces together with the info from a few weeks ago. Maybe Cespedes would only accept a low year offer from the Mets.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) What did he tweet? Sources: Cespedes believed to be weighing 5/$90m w/possible option offer from O's vs. one-year deal with Mets and become a free agent again. https://twitter.com/JesseSanchezMLB/status/...062113365889024 So I dont know what the hell Rick Hahn is doing. But passing up on either deal is rather silly.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Well after Jesse Sanchez's tweet I think we can consider this whole thing dead.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) I will say this, if the Orioles land Cespedes for a contract in that range, then I'm going to f***ing enraged. I'll be pissed. But not as pissed as I probably would have been a few weeks ago.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 06:17 PM) Out of curiosity how many runs did the Sox OF defense cost them in 2015? About 30 runs. That's what I was getting at with Jackson. With him on a down year in this category for him your still saving yourself probably 11 or so. Just off the top of my head I think that's atleast worthy of 4 games worth of losses.
-
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 06:02 PM) I know you are admittedly obsessed by the runs saved stat, but doesn't that vary from year to year? I'm averaging.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) I think with Sale, Q, and Rodon, elite OF are not all that necessary. Just make the regular plays, throw to the right base....the 2005 White Sox had Pods and Dye in the corners. They really weren't good defenders, but they made the plays they had to make. Pods couldn't throw, and that is really all JD could do. And that OF was considered good defensively. RH's obsession with ground ball pitchers and the small OF at USCF make having an elite OF defensively a luxury Nobody's asking for Elite Defense. If we wanted Elite Defense we would have signed Jason Heyward. Adding Fowler into that mix would probably equate them to being capable of combining for 4 losses worth of runs.
