  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) Contracts are the biggest parts of trades and signings anymore. It isn't about player comparision. I think everyone here knows Heyward is the better player, but if you have $23 million to spend, you are better off with Eaton and whatever else you can get with the balance. I seriously dont think the OP knows who the better player is.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) You have to give the White Sox credit for trading for Eaton and recognizing the value to lock him up longer term. They get blame when they screw up, but this was a very good thing. Having Eaton on this roster, not only makes the team better (as he's a good player) but it allows the franchise to spend additional resources addressing other needs (similar to say Q or Sale). Ofcourse they get a ton of credit. But if we're doing about player comparisons I'm not taking Eaton over Jason Heyward. I think comparing their contract status is silly. The circumstances are completely different for each player.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) If Heyward is making 4 times what Eaton is making, I'll take Eaton I love when people throw the 4 times number out there without context. If Adam Eaton hit the open market today you think he would be signing for a reasonable deal after what Heyward just signed for? No. Heyward hit the market at 26(1 day younger than Rizzo btw). That almost never happens. It's a fairly poor comparison and done without thinking about the situation both are in.
  4. QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) For the difference in $$$, I'll take Eaton!! and you'll be the only one. Congrats.
  5. Ah you guys and upgrading the OF....just let Avi Garcia drop those catchable balls. It's much more entertaining.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Gordon Wittenmyer ‏@GDubCub 22m22 minutes ago As expected, Heyward signed to play CF. Cubs plan to keep Soler in RF at this point (Schwarber LF) Heyward is going to be sprinting across the whole damn field
  7. Well Rick Hahn would just give us some lip service on not paying attention to what they are doing
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) Thats because holiday and adams were out with injuries and molina was trying to play with a tirn ucl in his thumb. Holiday and Matt Adams(especially) were not having that great of years on offense anyway.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) He said this in the Sox article "Chicago still has a sufficient amount of payroll dollars to add a free agent or another veteran through trade." Apparently I need to stop sniffing glue in the morning
  10. Interestingly enough after reading our good old friend Bruce Levines Twitter about the Cubs money. He wrote this morning that we(White Sox) have ZERO dollars for trades and free agents. Amusing because that's clearly not the case.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) Didn't he hit only 1? Carpenter has way more power than him, and I would say Piscotty looks to have as well. Yes he only hit 1 HR
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) There's nothing wrong with being jealous of what the Cubs are building. We all want to win too. That's the correct thing to be jealous about.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) Heyward with power? In the playoffs absolutely
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) Also had horrible luck with injuries. Well their depth was sad and their hitting was terrible. Heyward was the only power/reliable offensive player they had on the team entering the playoffs.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) They'll sign Alex Gordon now and a pitcher and still win 90 games. I dont think they want to win 90 games and then get kicked right out of the playoffs. They were incredibly weak entering the playoffs.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) It amazes me the value Soler seems to have around the league. He isn't much of an upgrade from Avi, and supposedly can't hit breaking pitches at all. Both Baez and Soler really shouldnt garner any interest in front of the line starter packages. But somehow they do.
  17. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) And the only thing we've done is sign 2 catchers and Brett Lawrie. We're doomed. Next year is going to be so bad. We're all gonna die. Where did I say any of that? I was alluding to the 3 teams in the running for him as I said the previous day.
  18. Cardinals really crapped the bed...they could not lose him.
  19. Staying off Twitter for a little while This was worst case scenario
  20. Sounds like he may be going to the Cubs
  21. Those teams dont give a crap if he hits home runs. That's just an added bonus that he can(in the playoffs he showed some pop). Why do they like him besides his Elite defense?
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) I would much rather go with Saladino over signing Desmond who has been trending downward for a few years. Funny thing though is his defense has remained consistent(positive play actually). So that's a little interesting.
  23. Ian Desmond is going to make way more money than that
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) Is this Scioscias last last last chance to get it right? I would imagine so. Great post Kalapse. Bill James in his handbook always raved about his runs saved capability. I think last year and the year before that he saved something like 23 runs.
  25. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) and again i will say i didn't think that is all true. then again i do know nothing of advance metrics. btw, is that the only source that tell these things. I use them for their defense mostly. But Baseball Reference has those too. Or if you want to read more into it Bill James comes out with a book every year which updates defense starts. It gives you runs saved and interesting bullpen statistics.
