I've actually heard a Maggs or Lee and Valentin for Perez, Isturis and some prospects, which I don't think is that bad of a deal. Here's the article from Phil Rogers bout all the Dodgers and Sox deals. If Evans had the flexibility to take on a little payroll, he could make a huge splash by using Perez and perhaps Izturis and one of his young relievers to pry Magglio Ordonez and offensive-minded shortstop Jose Valentin away from the Chicago White Sox, who are forced to pare down payroll before they can re-sign their own free agents, who include Carl Everett, Robbie Alomar and Tom Gordon. The Sox are listening to offers for the ultra-reliable Ordonez -- Manny Ramirez without the migraines -- because he figures to explore free agency after 2004, in which he's due $14 million. But the White Sox's outfielder Evans appears focused on is Carlos Lee, who set career-highs in 2003 with 31 home runs and 113 RBI. A trade of Lee and Valentin for Perez and Izturis makes sense. Evans also has some interest in Sox first baseman Paul Konerko, who averaged 26 homers and 95 RBI in 1999-2002 before slipping to .234-18-65 last season. The White Sox would love to move Konerko, who is owed $16.75 million over the next two years.

I still think Bartolo will be wearin an Angels uniform in 2004. They want starters badly, and if the Yanks resign Pettite and Wells, I still think they mite go afta Millwood as well. I think Colon would rather play in Anaheim than in New York as well.

Well I guess this confirms that Joe Mauer will be up with da big leagues next year. Hopefully da Sox can giv him a rookie poundin that he'll neva forget. . This moves clears payroll and now da Twinkies will prob be able to resign one of Guardado or Stewart, my guess it's Stewart.

Dang, the Hawks need to steal some wins with him out. But it doesn't look good that Leighton's been strugglin lately. If Craig Andersson ever had a chance to prove he's a NHL calibre goalie, now's da time.

I know this has probably been posted already, but here's a list of the top 10 White Sox Prospects from FoxSports.com. These 2 playa's interested me, maybe Rex can tell us a bit more about then and whether or not they can make it to the big leagues. Oh yeah, we were ranked 24th in da league for prospects. Not good. Article Ryan Meaux, LHP, Age: 24 The White Sox received Meaux from the Giants in 2002 as part of the Kenny Lofton trade. He's a small-bodied lefty, but he's done nothing but put up the numbers in his brief career. He's worked as a high-inning reliever the past two seasons, reaching double-A in 2003. For his career, he's got a sporty 5.4 K/BB ratio, which is excellent. He strikes guys out at a strong clip and has a 2.46 ERA in three professional seasons. He was very strong at AA-Birmingham this past season and could be a future closer. ETA: Late 2004. Robert Valido, SS, Age: 18 The Sox drafted Valido out of a Miami high school in the June draft. He projects as a solid defensive shortstop at the major league level with good gap power and speed on the bases. He had an excellent showing in the rookie-level Appalachian League this past season, but it's a limited sample. He's a long way from the majors, but so far so good. ETA: 2007.

If Maggs gets shipped out to Anaheim and we lose Konerko as well, if we can't get K-Rod, then this is the prospect I wanna go afta. Casey Kotchman, Angels, Age: 20 Kotchman has excellent plate discipline (more walks than strikeouts), can hit for average and plays good defense. His power stroke hasn't come yet, but he did hit 30 doubles in 288 ABs in the Midwest League last season. Those doubles may turn into to homers once he matures. On the downside, Kotchman's had an unfortunate run of wrist and forearm injuries — the kind of injuries that can hinder the developing power of a young hitter. He's a great natural hitter, though. He dominated the Cal League this past season and shouldn't have much trouble adapting to the high minors. If his power develops as it should and he stays healthy, he could be a top-tier first baseman in the majors. ETA: 2005.

My long steep ascent up the mountain continues Texans Dolphins Panthers Titans Browns Eagles Chiefs Saints Rams J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets Jets!! Broncos Raiders Bucs Seahawks Da Boys!! 49ers, Hmm what celebration will TO do if he scores a TD?

The thing I most worry bout Erstad is he throws his body around the park so much he's bound to get injured for at least 20 games of a season. I heard he mite consider goin to 1B, so if we ship out Paulie, he could possibly play there, and not take major playin time away from Rowand or Reed.

Who do ya want for him? McGrady, Jefferson and Wallace r definitely untouchables. Webber, Stackhouse, Bibby or Van Exel could go in the rite deal.

Student Teaching: Calling advice from all teachers
DBAHO replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in SLaM
Just try to relate to the students so you r like one of em and not an actual teacher, cos I think students hate some1 who just come in who thinks they know everythin. A few jokes here and there work nicely. -
With Green sayin he mite consider movin to 1B, I don't think the Dodgers will take on Konerko and his bloated salary. How much is Perez making for 2004?
-
If we trade Lee for Perez I want Greg Miller or Edwin Jackson thrown into the deal as well. But I don't see why LA just signs an outfielder and keeps Perez.

I watched Seinfeld last nite, and it was the episode where Costanza got hired by the Yankees afta he goes rite of at Steinbrenner, very funny stuff. Steinbrenner - "Hire this man!"

Well I know some ppl like Beastly ain't gonna like this , Having gotten nowhere with talks about a contract extension, the White Sox quietly have begun shopping four-time All-Star Magglio Ordonez. His salary has outgrown the ability of the organization to pay it—and according to executives gathered at the annual general managers' meetings, there is a very limited pool of teams that even can consider adding it. One of those is Anaheim, which might be willing to deal closer Troy Percival or center fielder Darin Erstad, but executives from other clubs caution that the return in a potential Ordonez trade probably would not be in keeping with his production. Ordonez, who hit .317 with 29 homers and 99 runs batted in last season, is due $14 million in 2004, the final year of a three-year contract. He will be eligible for free agency after the season and the Sox are pessimistic about their ability to keep him. "Magglio's a one-year proposition for us at this point," a Sox source said Tuesday. General manager Ken Williams declined to discuss specific players, including Ordonez. But he acknowledged that it would be impossible to add any significant parts this winter without first moving some salaries. The Sox have six players under contract at combined salaries of $43.375 million and project the cost to retain the major-leaguers under their control—including arbitration-eligible players such as Carlos Lee, Mark Buehrle and Jon Garland—at about $64 million. According to sources, the tentative 2004 payroll is $55 million to $58 million. "The job remains the same," Williams said. "You try to shape your roster so you can make the playoffs and go forth in them. It's a goal to do that every year. This year will just bring a different challenge." Frank Thomas' decision to accept a $6 million player option leaves Williams' hands tied by the four right-handed hitters in the lineup: Thomas, Ordonez, Lee and Paul Konerko, who collectively are due about $34 million. That's almost 60 percent of a $58 million payroll. Trading at least one of them or closer Billy Koch appears to be the first order of business for Williams. He would like to gain some flexibility to pursue a proven starting pitcher or re-sign one or two free agents from a group that includes Roberto Alomar, Carl Everett and Tom Gordon. Lee, who last year set career highs with 31 homers and 113 RBIs, might be the most attractive Sox player on the current market. He earned $4.2 million this year and is eligible for arbitration as a four-plus player. The Los Angeles Dodgers are interested in both Lee and Konerko and are dangling left-hander Odalis Perez, who was 12-12 with 4.52 ERA last year. A White Sox source confirmed talks with the Mets about a possible deal for Koch, who is due to earn $6.375 in the final year of his two-year deal. The Mets believe manager Art Howe and new pitching coach Rick Peterson, who worked with Koch in Oakland, could get him back on track after a season in which he had a 5.77 earned-run average and only 11 saves. But Mets GM Jim Duquette would like to get the Sox to take a bad contract in return. Center fielder Roger Cedeno is among those the Mets are pushing. Trading Konerko will be difficult. He has two years and $16.75 million left on his contract and hit only .234 last season. But sources say the White Sox have created interest in several of their veterans by indicating they would be willing to pay a portion of those salaries. Trading a homegrown star like the 29-year-old Ordonez would be painful but merits consideration if he cannot be re-signed. Williams said preliminary discussions on an extension broke off during the 2003 season because of Ordonez's asking price. He was believed to be seeking $15 million a year for four to six seasons. Among the possibilities is to deal Ordonez to Anaheim for a package of players topped by Percival, who converted 33-of-37 save chances last year, or Erstad. The latter is a risky proposition given that he has three years and $24 million left on his contract and played only 67 games because of hamstring problems last year. Erstad, however, has been on the Sox's radar screen for years. Baltimore, Los Angeles and both New York teams are also possible targets for Ordonez trade talks. The presence of Gary Sheffield and Vladimir Guerrero on the free-agent market will hurt the Sox's position in any possible Ordonez deal. The Yankees, for instance, are more likely to sign one of those two rather than trade for Ordonez. The Sox have two potential outfield replacements on the way in Joe Borchard and Jeremy Reed. They could buy time for them to spend the first half of next season at Triple-A by playing Willie Harris and Aaron Rowand or signing an inexpensive free agent.
