  1. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) The Bulls got seriously owned tonight. And oh yea... Kirk Hinrich is horrible. I figure this thread might be a little more inactive this season the way you guys are playing so far. Just seems to me, the Bulls are having trouble scoring, period. They don't have a real go to guy, and it puts pressure on 3 to 4 guys to produce 15-20 points every night, and obviously they're not doing that right now. And obviously that puts more pressure on your defense, and they're not responding right now. The whole Kobe fiasco, and now with Wallace's play, things aren't going swimmingly for the Bulls at all right now. What was wrong with Hinrich's game tonight Ace?
  2. Please sign him. You don't give up any draft picks, Japanese relievers have an excellent success rate in the 1st season here, and he's one of the better Japanese relievers out there. Signings like this, if they pay off, are the ones that are going to help the Sox get back over .500 next season.
  3. And Boston is no longer undefeated. Great game, and I thought the Celtics were going to steal in with a few mins left in the 4th. Dwight miseed about 7 in a row at the line at 1 point. But a win is a win. Now back to Bulls vs. Lakers talk.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) Didn't Brian Billick start calling the plays in Baltimore instead of Fassel because he was so terrible? Sort of. Billick just wanted to take on the responsibility, and Fassell quit because Billick meddled so much. I aactually think Tony Sparano would be a great hire as an OC for the Bears. He's the assistant head coach / offensive line coach of the Cowboys. They were 4th in points last season IIRC, and the Cowboys line is argubly one of the best in the NFL. And before he came in, they were argubly one of the worst. He knows how to fix it.
  5. Orlando beating Boston 58-41 at half time. I've got $15 riding on this game. Could we have a new contender in the East?
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:46 AM) Someone on Washington wanna watch for 81 on Dallas. Only 4 TDs today. Yep he was the difference today for us. Single handledy won a few games for us this season now. Defensively we're still average at best against the pass. Probably a 7 win team on talent and performance, but we've ended up 9-1, so I can't complain.
  7. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 09:07 AM) OHHHHHH NO Guess he won't be joining the Sox now.
  8. Going to be halting production at a lot of Copper Mines. I imagine the price of Copper will be going back up quite a bit after this.
  9. THAT'S HOW YOU HIT YOUR FREE THROWS DWIGHT!!!!!!!! Early candidate for game of the year right there. Magic have won 5 straight on the road, and are going places this season.
  10. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) I hate the Packers - but have you been watching the games? It's not even close. I have, but I thought after the weekend, you guys may have been a bit more positive about the D, but I guess not. FWIW, I think the Packers have a better secondary, as Woodson and Harris are probably argubly the best CB duo in the NFL right now, and I think that's where the edge is. Linebackers and D-Line are more close, although with Urlacher not healthy, and A.J Hawk coming on for the Packers with Nick Barnett, the Packers probably have the edge there too.
  11. QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 10:09 AM) It's called opinion. He's still facing professional hitters, I never said because he's dominating in low A ball that he will do that in the majors. Professional hitters that are probably either a) Still very young and learning. B) Just not very good. If you have read the thread by the White Sox scout and his thoughts on Poreda, you can see why there is a LOT of doubt on him as a prospect.
  12. I think they Colts signed Simeon Rice as a replacement though. Still Freeney's a big loss. And here's a question I'll throw out there, is the Packers defense better than the Bears defense right now?
  13. Yeah I'd rather Jones for 1 or 2 years over getting into a long - term deal with Rowand or Hunter. I doubt it will happen, but it's a possibility, and one the Sox should be looking into. There's no doubt he struggled last season for whatever reason, but he was one of the better hitters in baseball a couple of seasons ago.
  14. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 12:21 PM) How sad is it that the Heat are giving Anfernee Hardaway serious minutes? I almost yearn for Antoine Walker. Almost. Yeah it is majorly. Penny was my favorite player in the 90's, and it's just a shame to see injuries have made him a shadow of what he once was. I remember one play against Houston in the NBA Finals, when he did a reverse alley oop from a pass from mid court that really just showed off his athleticism beautifully. And here's a question, when are Seattle actually going to win a game? Durant is only shooting about 30% from the field IIRC, and he's trying to do too much, he needs some help out there.
  15. Now there's a nice lookin cover. Not crazy about Kane's hair though.
  16. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) I wouldn't worry about the knot in the shoulder. Our crack medical staff thought Big Hurt and Maggs were done also. Maggs was awesome last year and Big Hurt has been decent the past 2 years. Hurt obviously is so slow on the basepaths it's probably been a good thing he's gone, but Maggs still should be a member of the Sox. Keep garland. If we want to win the division we need his innings. Javy, Mark, Jose, and the two younguns won't cut it. I love Buerhle but he doesn't strike a lot of people out and is a question mark each and every year; Javy is Mr. 5 innings still; Jose is awful, simply awful; and the two younguns are too young to count on. I'd rather gamble on Mark, Jon and Javy having career years, getting rid of the old one, and picking up a Byrd type veteran to go with either Danks or Floyd. KEEP GARLAND 1. Do we win the World Series in 2005 if we had have kept Maggs around? Simple answer, no. 2. Thomas didn't much that season either, and I wouldn't say a lot of teams really targeted him that off-season. Is Jim Thome that bad Greg? 3. Since when did not striking out hitters mean that you're not a good pitcher? Buehrle's been a pretty damn consistent pitcher except for 1 season, and would get a killing on the open market right now if he was available. And now my favorite. 4. Javier Vazquez in 32 starts in 2007, only did not get out of the 5th inning, TWICE. Once in April against Cleveland when he only gave up 2ER, and once against Baltimore in July when he only gave up 4ER. Look at the freaking facts before you post that type of stuff, and it's one of the stupider statements I've ever seen on here (/end rant).
  17. QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) Beckett is the only sure thing and they had to rest(DL) him during the year. Schilling and Wakefield are both in their 90's so they can't be counted on much longer.Dice-K stunk the 2nd half. The two young guys haven't proven they can be long term answers. So, Boston, like every MLB team, very much needs starting pitching. They just may not be as desperate as some other teams. And is Garland a big upgrade on those guys you've mentioned? Maybe (if he was going to put up a sub 4 ERA season), but that's very debatable. Dice-K's ERA was around 3 IIRC when he pitched off 5 days rest. He'll be better next season I'm thinking because at least now he has the experience at the MLB level, but obviously the control is an issue for him. Depends if they do go with that 6 man rotation. How are they ever going to find out about Lester and Buckholz if they don't use them in the rotation? A major reason why the Red Sox won the world series this season was because of the young guys they had, who produced, and gave them massive payroll flexibility. Trading for Garland in the scenario you mentioned takes away an important part of their pen, and a good prospect. And if they acquired Garland for 12M, would they be able to re-sign Mike Lowell? Hence, I think their priorities lie elsewhere right now.
  18. Morrow's pretty much an untouchable Chombi. I know I'd certainly rather have him for 5 seasons than Garland for 1. Balentien and Clement alone would probably be a pretty good package for the Sox. As for Arizona, one of Quentin or Gonzalez would be good, along with one of the D-Backs young arms (Owings, Nippert etc.) plus maybe a Juan Cruz or Tony Pena for the pen. Probably a bit much though, but hey it's a good asking price.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) We will see in 2008. Javy has had good seasons before, and followed them up with not so good seasons. We will see if he's "found it" or if he goes back to the mediocre guy he was the previous 3 seasons. Where was he the first 4 months of 2006? His record was below .500 on a 90 win team, his ERA was higher than the league average. Pretty mediocre. He did well in 2007, but still has to be considered a wild card. I look at it as if he took time to get his head around what Coop was trying to fix with him and when he did he had success. To me his season in 2007 was no suprise considering the way he finished off 2006. It was quite funny how people thought he was our worst starter going into last season, and yet he's now argubly our best. He racked up over 200K's, lowered his HR total to about 25, and put up a sub 4 ERA, which in our ballpark is very, very good. I just find it a little funny Dick that you're willing to give Contreras the benefit of the doubt in terms of keeping him for next season, and yet he's quite similar to Vazquez for the reasons you think Javy won't repeat his 2007 numbers. He struggled with his control in 2005 for the 1st 4 months, and then got on that hot streak, and then fell apart. I'm not saying that's going to happen to Javy because he's in good physical shape and he's got dominating stuff, but Contreras is much older and lost velocity. Is he ever going to get back to where he was? Very doubtful at best.
  20. Yeah there's no doubt, having Chris Young on this team would offer us a lot more payroll flexibility. If we didn't make that trade, we probably would have kept Garcia, and had his shoulder blown out as it did this season, we would have had Danks and Broadway? in the back end of the rotation, and we would need a SP. But we'd probably be keeping Garland as well, and locking him up. So there are a lot of possibilities. Very glad to gave Javy, and have him signed to a good contract in this marketplace, but there's no doubt Chris Young would fill a hole on this ballclub.
  21. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) Those won't be Rowand's numbers. Well he'll be getting more than Byrnes, but I don't see him getting $15M a season, as Torii Hunter may. Just doesn't have enough "good consistent" seasons up on the board. He picked the perfect time to have a good one though. Somewhere b/w 12 and 13M is a good compromise for mine, and maybe the contract escalates in value through the years.
  22. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) I'll bet right now KW is giving his very best sales pitch in trying to get Hunter to take 4/$52. No way do the Sox offer up $ 70 mil. for Hunter and there's no reason they should. After Hunter goes to Texas or someplace for 5/70 then KW will go to work on ARow. He'll try to get him for 3/$28.5 , What makes you think Aaron Rowand would sign a 3 year $28.5M deal, when Eric Byrnes got a 3/33 deal (and probably took a hometown discount in the process?) Rowand should get 4 to 5 years easy. And he'll get around 12M a season I'm thinking. More than what Gary Matthews Jr. got last off-season as well. As for Hunter, well that's obviously going to be the starting point in negotiations for the Sox I'm thinking. He will probably get a better offer from a team such as Texas or even the Dodgers (2nd worst CF production in the MLB last season, Sox were last).
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) Absolutely...those are 3 integral players for the Cubs, and it would be way too much to get Crawford, who will be a FA again before you know it. Crawford's signed for 3 years though isn't he, so it's not like you're trading for a Jon Garland here, who's going to hit the market next off-season. Still signing Fukedome makes the most sense for the Cubs. Trading for Crawford's probably a backup plan I would imagine, if that signing doesn't eventuate.
  24. Dotel has better stuff, but is more injury prone. Linebrink probably the more reliable, but he's out of San Diego now. I wouldn't sign either. Keep the draft picks, and sign the best reliever out of Japan. Rebuilding the system should be a priority still.
  25. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 01:03 PM) Seriously, Hill, Marmol, and Soto/Pie looks like a really good trade for both teams. Yeah it does actually. The thing is here, would the Cubs be better off is signing Fukedome instead of trading for Crawford. My thinking is, they could do both, but the Cubs would have to trade Pie instead of Soto, and then you would have an OF of Soriano, Crawford and Fukedome. And Tampa also have Dioner Navarro at C, albeit, he hasn't really produced offensively yet.
