Right now, if I could dump Jose's contract, and use say half of that money per season to sign a Colon for 1 season, and then use the rest to sweeten an offer for a CF or leadoff hitter, then yeah I think that would be a good strategy. These young arms of ours have to get major league experience at some point to see whether or not they can be part of our core for the future. Paying $10M a season for a SP who could put up an ERA above 5 in 2008 doesn't really seem like getting a good return on your investment there.

Everyone's talked about the big 3 on here, Hunter, Rowand and Jones. But there's another FA CF available this off-season in Mike Cameron. Now yes, he'll miss the 1st 25 games of 2008 and yes there is probably still some bad blood b/w him and the Sox brass for the way he was treated in his 1st stint here. But if there was a chance you could sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal over say Rowand or Jones for 4 or 5, would you look at that? Very unlikely I know, as the Pads are probably going to re-sign him. But he puts up good numbers away from PETCO Park (.789 OPS in away games in 2007 in a down season). And he'e excellent defensively. So I'm just throwing it out there.

Big time win. Just shows the impact of special teams. The Hawks have been so bad at it for so long, and right now they're just a lot better, and it's really making a huge difference. Sharp is really becoming quite an important player now. Not the biggest name, but he seems to making an impact when it's needed most.

I disagree that it wasn't the pen that sank the Sox. If we have a good pen in 07 we're a .500 team IMHO.

Agreed on moving toward Phoenix. When I stayed in Glendale and Surprise a couple of years back, there were a lot of good areas for spring training facilities etc., and you can see why teams such as the Sox wanted to move there. Very glad it happened, because I'd love to go back 1 day.

Sounds like a decent idea. Obviously the stadium situation at the moment is a mess, and Tropicana is argubly the worst MLB stadium going around at the moment. They need something like this in order to be competitve in the AL East. It's all good that they're bringing up young players and everything, but they'll have to pay them one day, and having attendances of 30,000+ will certainly help that. And with the Marlins likely to move from Florida soon, they should get something like this done to keep baseball in Florida over the long - term.
