Benson Only
When was the last time the Bears paid a top 5 pick? Didn't they trade down from the 4 spot to the Jets to get Haynes and Rex a couple of years back too? It's all good in saying the Bears pay for players, but those guys are established, Benson is a rookie and has proven nothing yet.

Benson Final Offer
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) I would have made him a lowball offer and said take it or f*** off. Yep that'll work extremely well. The Bears waste the #4 pick, and don't get a big need on offense filled at the same time.

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) What world am i on? i just paid 350 for books for this semester and i think that's "not too bad" It's gotten to the stage now where I try not to buy the text books but only the study guides, which are only about $20 each for each unit, that tells you what you need to know in detail for each topic. Saves me a lot of $$$$$.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Someone's gotta help me with this quote. Chicago's ESPN radio 1000's Silvy and Carmen show have a hysterical sound-bite they use whenever they caught up in discussing something nerdy. It sounds like it's from an older movie and I'd love to find out which one. It simply goes: "Youuuuuuu are a huge nerd." ...in a rather nasally voice. "Excuse Me, Which Way to the Chess Club??"

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) Well, that's what you get for having your winter right in the middle of summer. I'll remember that when all of you are complaining come December.

Comments from Pauly
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 12:38 AM) I'm thinking Red Sox. There was an article in the Boston Herald when the White Sox were in town a couple of days ago, where Paulie was saying he didn't think he could handle living in Boston permanently, like he can now with Chicago. Kalapse brought up a good team in the O's though as well. There'll be a market for Paulie this off-season, don't you worry about that.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) Bill Mueller would be a huge upgrade over Crede. Mueller is a very consistent hitter who can be counted on to put together good ABs. There's not much of a difference in their defense either. The problem with Mueller is this, from an Aaron Gleeman blog article about 3 weeks ago;

Comments from Pauly
So another Pauly comment that's probably been blown out of proportion or something. Well it really wouldn't suprise me if he ran off to the Mets this off-season.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) Ick. That really sucks. Do you have a fever too? I would say get lots of sleep, drink lots of fluids and eat lots of fruit. A heating pad on the chest might feel nice and a cool bath if you've got a fever. Hope you feel better! No I usually don't get fever's actually, most of the time when a flu happens, it's the sore throat for a day or 2, and then the blocked nose. But the vitamin C intake, and fluids have been doubled to tripled over the past week, otherwise it's off to the Doc for some good ol Anti - Biotics. Of course there's no doubt I'd rather be back in Phoenix right now with that 100 degree weather. On Monday we had a cold front come over from Antartica, that actually brought snow to parts of the suburbs around here, for like almost the 1st time ever. Think the weather was about in the 30's to 40's that day.

Guardado Trade??
Well IIRC there was an article around the deadline saying Bavasi would just accept a prospect for Guardado. Unfortunately that prospect is likely to be Brandon McCarthy or Chris Young. And unless Raul Ibanez is included, a lot of posters are probably going to say, well we need offense more than pitching right now.
-
Greg Couch Article on current slide
Sigh another why couldn't we trade for someone at the deadline article. Obviously didn't know much about the current trade market. But yes the smallball isn't likely to work at the Cell unless of course the fences are moved back, which probably won't be happening anytime soon. And that puts pressure on the likes of Crede to swing for the fences, and sure he'll get ya 20HR's a year and solid defence, but is that enough to handle for the pop ups and weak batting average etc. This is Crede's 2nd bad month out of 5 now, he needs a good September to keep his spot next year. And unless you like Bill Mueller or Joe Randa, there's probably not many alternatives either.

So anyways I'm in that period of a cold flu at the moment, where I've used so many tissues my upper part of my lip is starting to go well how do I say it, red and numb. Not the best feeling in the world let me tell you. And since it's been about my 3rd flu of the winter in 50 degree weather, it's probably a sign saying that if I move to the States in the future, it probably won't be to a cold weather place in the winter.

Skype
So does anyone else around here use this program. If you've got a headset with a microphone, you can just talk to anyone else who has the program. I've used quite a lot over the past few months to talk to my folks in Phoenix, better than forking out lots of money on the phone bill. Skype

Fantasy Hockey
Ok so last time we had a 8 team league. Right now I'm assuming these people are in; Myself Mike (SS2K5) Kap (since Mike said he was prob game) Tony Tony's Dad Goldy Pauly Hawks That's 8 right there, unless we get more people interested to bump it up to 12, looks like we might have a league here.

QUOTE(farmteam @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) Alright, at one time I actually knew/read where he played...but I did have to google it. Bayer Leverkusen Yep and if I was him, I'd be angling for a move to say Liverpool right about now, or somewhere in the English Premier League to get more exposure.

I'm loving having a running back in Julius Jones right now. It's really quite funny if you're not a Bears fan at the moment.

Raul Ibanez
QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) No.. The issue is the M's are smoking some serious s*** if that's the Price tag.. It's the 2005 Trade Market. So many of these teams that are below .500 don't want to trade their big players because they want to win now, they've had enough of losing. That's why you didn't see the Pittsburgh's and the Cincinatti's trading the Griffey's and Mesa's etc.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) I have a question about Dmitri Young...since he can play 1B is his defense better than Paulies?? If so the Sox could use him at 1b and have Paulie DH. I don't have time here at work to check all the stats so any info would be good. Thanks. I saw Dimitri Young play at 1B in one game at Arizona first hand. To sum it up, Conor Jackson would be a better fielding first baseman than Dimitri Young. He was awful.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) It's Landon. Stick to American sports... Landon, why the hell did I write Lance. Ok, then Mr. Smart Guy, what club in Germany does he play for?

Raul Ibanez
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) That sounds about right. Both are top 10 prospects which is about what they'd be looking for. The price is just too damn high. Bazardo was the 3rd ranked player in the Marlins system and Seattle got him for Villone. Taking 2 of the Sox top 10 is about what they'd be looking to do. And people are going to say well for Griffey they only want Young and Rogowski plus a mid - level prospect (which was the deadline deal). Well the issue is this. Ibanez only has what 1 year left on his deal, is younger and his salary is manageable. And of course Bill Bavasi probably won't want to trade one of the guys HE signed to try and save face. He's already under enouh pressure at it is right now.

$5.00 per gallon gas
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 06:21 AM) That's about what the rest of the world pays, outside of some OPEC countries. Guess we'll see less Hummers on the freeways in LA. Gee, I'll be so disappointed. Yep it's $1.25 a litre down here at the moment (3.7 gallons = 1 litre approx), so you can imagine how much it's gonna cost down here if it keeps going up, up and up.

Raul Ibanez
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) his numbers are pretty damn good. He isn't bad defensively either though not good either. His numbers are: AVG .293 | HR 15 | RBI 68 in a pitchers park. That's not the issue, the issue is the price to get him. Think Chris Young and Gio Gonzalez.
