QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) They dropped the ball on Liriano. He should have been up a month ago or better. They'd still have a fighting chance then. Prediction: Juan Uribe and Brian Anderson get hits, but Timo gets the praise for driving in a run with a sac fly. He'll be up next season in all likelihood anyways with Scott Baker, when Joe Mays won't be back and Kyle Lohse is a good candiate to get traded for some offensive help.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) dang, didnt realize radke had cranked it up after the first half. he really was pretty damn good last year, and has throughout his career been pretty darn underrated imo In outdoor games this season however his ERA was 4.75 IIRC, hopefully we can eventually get on him, it may take someone like Anderson to spark us.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) Nope thats not the case, the reason for the holdout is that they were waiting to see the deal Ronnie Brown got... well now Brown is signed so now people are really going to get pissed if Benson still holds out. If the bears are offering inbetween the 3rd and 5th pick money and he isnt accepting than i say screw him and not to offer anymore than that. How much money did Rivers get last year compared to Ronnie Brown FWIW?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) Hey DBAH0, where is Honel pitching right now? In Birmingham, AA ball.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) youd almost rather radke stayed in there though with this bullpen I don't quite think that actually, the Twinkies could use say a Terry Mulholland and Jesse Crain has hardly been all that great in the last few months. Radke has something like a 2.25 ERA after the ASG however...........

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) I don't like our chances against either at this point. Just wait for Francisco Liriano in the next few years. = Johan Jr.
-
7 pitches in an inning, at least make Radke work a little.

I wonder how much thought they gave to batting Gooch - Uribe 1-2 in the lineup tonight?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) You mean when we were in New York, they weren't chanting "TIMO, TIMO, TIMO"?!?!?!!? Yeah they probably were, because they knew he was either going to K or GIDP.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Tino is acceptable, he has 17 homeruns, and plays good defense. And the fans actually like him.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:52 AM) Bruce Levine keeps mentioning Dimitri Young. If he has something like an extra few plate appearances, doesn't his $8 or 9M option for next year automatically kick in?

What are actual good GM's, 1 article Steve Phillips is never actually probably going to write himself.
-
QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) Yep,and that will teach Benson for holding out. Who does he think he is,Terrell Owens? It's the age of agents trying to hold teams for ransom, everyone's basically doing it, the Titans just got Adam Jones signed. It's not like Benson was the only rookie holding out or something.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) Belgium Beer should really never, ever, ever, under any circumstance, be mentioned in the same breath as "Heineken". Well yes you can probably say that, because well Belgim Beer's so damn good, but out of the normal "Beers" we get down here, well Heineken would be the best. But your point is well taken.
-
Without a doubt Coffee, you know why, because I can't stand it, well not at the moment anyways (althogh like William I've never really had much if any IIRC). That said I'm even a big Beer person unless it's of real good quality (I'm talking Belgium Beer possibly Heineken here).

And you thought T.O was bad;

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) What is your position on Cedric Benson's holdout? 5.5% Bears are being cheap (68 responses) 64.6% Benson is greedy (799 responses) 29.9% Just part of the NFL (369 responses) 1236 total responses Poll tonight about Greedy sob like you did at draft That's a ChicagoSports poll, of course the majority are going to say he's being greedy because they want him on the team already. Look it's a really a mirror image of last year with Phillip Rivers. He waited, Drew Brees starred in training camp and never looked back, so Rivers missed out on the starting job. Is that gonna happen with Benson? Possibly at the start, but Jones isn't good enough to hold down the starting job for a whole season. I think the Bears are probably gonna hav to cave in with everything that's happened with Rex etc. to try and save face and get him in camp.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) At some point our meathead hitters have got to stop swinging at crap neck and up. Arow Kd over the weekend on a neck high fastball from Schilling. Pauly swung at a pitch chest high last night. Do these guys have any clue on what a strike and what a ball is. You take the good with the bad with Uribe, he's been hitting good the last few days, hitting in the #2 spot for a few days will probably help. Although there are other hitters in the league who do swing at pitches outside the strike zone ya know........

Little piece from BA on Haeger;

QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) Ok, Mr. Drew Bledsoe/Vinny Testeverde/Quincy Carter. What would you suggest? Thomas Jones can hold down the fort just fine; but, Hutchinson (as you know) is a big stiff. We need a QB. Jones in a power running offense ain't gonna work for a whole season. That's why they drafted Benson. I just find it ironic that because pretty much most of the top draft picks have holded out, Bears fans are already giving it to him. People say he doesn't deserve Rivers' money. Well Alex Smith got more guaranteed money than Eli Manning and he was the #1 pick, and the amount of money given to the top draft picks have gone up every year. And yes Hutch is a stiff, so it sucks to be a guy like Muhsin Muhammed right now. As for solutions, well maybe Orton in a couple of years (not right now), or you just hope for Leinart. Either way, it's not looking good for the present.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) yeah, Uribe was 2-3, and reached in 3 of his 4 PA's. Add those in and it makes the numbers look respectable. Thank you, that's why small ass sample sizes should not be used (a lesson for all of you playing at home). Uribe's had a terrible year, we all know that. But last year he had great success in the #2 hole, and he had a good night tonight. Why not try to get him going because we're gonna need some offense without Pods.

I love this, Bears fans turning on him already.

Mavericks waive Michael Finley

My money's on Phoenix, but if I'm George Karl I can whatever I can to get him. -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) Honel has been dominating of late. This is like 5 really good starts in his last 6, correct? Yeah it is. The Sox have a decision to make on him at the end of the year whether to put him back on the 40 man otherwise he might be claimed in the rule 5 draft IIRC.

Politte needs to pick it up, his splits so far this month aren't good at all. We need some momentum heading into the bottom of this inning.
