    Colleges

QUOTE(KJean @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) I'm a Accounting and Finance major. I went there knowing I wanted to major in Accounting, but just recently decided to double major. The College of Business is great with exposing you to all different types of majors (well they actually require you to take a bunch of different classes in and out of the college of business) and it's "easy" to pick up a second major or minor the way the programs are set up. I can't speak from personal experience about the university helping with deciding majors. But they give you the flexibility to take a huge variety of classes that sound appealing to you, esp. if you're undecided cause then you'll probably go into the College of Arts and Sciences. My roommate started as a Journalism major but switched to Broadcast Communication this past year and she didn't loose any credits or have any go to waste. Plus it doesn't really matter if you're undecided your frosh or soph year, it actually can be quite good because then you can take a variety of different classes and such. Wooo sorry that was long, hope it helped. Exactly what I'm doing down here. I suppose in American Terms I would be a junior in college, as I'm in year 2 of my 3 year course. And for my course, we were forced to do 10 "core" units of Accounting, Macro - Economics, Micro Economics, Managment, Business Data Analysis (Stats), Finance, Marketing, Basic Business Law, Business Communication and some other I.T sort of course doing Access and Excel stuff. This semester I'm undertaking International Financial Reporting (which has become quite important now since the world are now undertaking International Accounting Standards), Cost Accounting, Money and Capital Markets and Business Finance. So for anyone who's thinking of doing that, that's the type of stuff you're gonna do.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) That's personal and besides, I thought they threw that rumor down. And also, it is not in the field of play and in no way effected the outcome of the game, did it? So if Pierzynski was being a prick to hitters when they were hitting, and it put them off, doesn't that possibly impact the outcome of the game? Just talk to Brett Tomko about Mr. Pierzynski.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) I do not recall and AJ cheap shots.... No, but do you recall how he was a total prick, and everyone on here hated him?
  4. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Mark Bradley mutha f***as! What he actually caught a pass?
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) If Torri Hunter was a free-agent and the Sox had a need in CF, no one here would sign him... Don't you think we would hav said the same thing about A.J Pierzynski a couple of years ago?
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) Wait, we want to complain about soft players but we also want to sign players who almost killed another player....oooooooh, ok. Now I understand! :banghead :headshake Hahaha, keep going please.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) Well with the .281 BAA, and the plus 4 Era you would think that you have a chance to hit him up a bit. Checked his ERA at home lately?
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) Jesus you guys are throwing in the towel early. This team's pulled some crazy s***. Give 'em a chance. I don't care who is pitching. Thank you. How many times have we come back from behind this season?
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) We should be able to put more than 2 runs up against the Yanks banged up pitching staff. Mussina's not good?
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) We'll be there.. And tell me about the whiny crap.. :rolly I get up at least 2 hours before most of you "kids".. work a full time job longer then your school day.. and maintain a household.. yet still find the time to attend weeknight games - and most of the time go out after the game. Ok I'll be good.
  11. Also since we're talking hockey, I'm wondering if anyone has played the latest version of Eastside Hockey Manager from Sports Interactive? It's a pretty good style sports management game and it's updated up to the season where the Hawks have the likes of Barker and Bolland in their system.
  12. As great as Garland's been this season, I don't think you can go past Buerhle. He had that streak going, had a huge stretch of games in the middle of the year after the Minny game at the start of the year where he didn't lose, and I think he just deserves because he's been so good for so long at someone his age which is really quite remarkable in itself.

    Discovery's Trip

BUMP. The bad weather conditions have delayed the Discovery landing for just over another 2 hours. Let's hope they make it back safely.
  14. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) I found another interesting hockey rumors blog....don't know how legit it is but the site looks creditable.. http://hockeyrumors.blogspot.com/ Interesting, it looks like Pittsburgh and Phoenix look to be the favorites for Thibault so far, and that Sean Burke is porbably gonna have to wait to see who gets him, and then go to the other team. Frankly if I'm the Pens I just sign Burke, so you don't have to give up picks / players for T-Bo, but I guess they just like Jocelyn more. As for Carter he wouldn't be a bad option but I think the Hawks are done. My guess is he'll actually get less than Martin LaPointe though (which is saying something in itself)..........
  15. I'll say this right now, if the Sox decide to let Konerko go (which is unlikely) and don't want Gload to take over the role, they've got options in the trade market. Here are some names; Adam Dunn - Stating the obvious here. Of course it'd have to be a hell of a package, think Gio Gonzalez, Brian Anderson and a fringe prospect for starters. The Reds would love to dump Sean Casey instead, but the feeling is mutual from other teams around the league with the money he's making. Lyle Overbay - The person who most Sox fans would love to see take over at 1st. Of course it's have to be another great offer for Doug Melvin to accept. They'd love Brandon McCarthy and / or Gio Gonzalez of course. Conor Jackson - Has been rumored, but fits the mold of a DH more than a 1B, which poses an interesting option in itself. Of course the D-Backs would young pitching. Brian Anderson is a local boy, and would probably have to be included. Chad Tracy - My choice. You won't have to give up as much for Tracy as you would Dunn or Overbay, but Tracy is going to be a great player for the next 10 years, and can play 1B, 3B and any spot in the OF, while he can anywhere from #2 to #6 in the lineup.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) The Atlanta Journal is saying the Thrashers are hot after Selanne and Bondra while the Pens are hot after Stumpel, CuJo, and Burke with Burke close to accepting a 2 year deal. The Avs signed Bruette to a 2 year deal and Ray Whitney signed with the 'Canes for 2 years as well. Now, I'm gonna throw out a name. Valeri Bure. I believe he is on the market. Any thoughts? Wouldn't say Bure fits the mold of character guys and toughness the Hawks are going after.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) I don't expect it but I wouldn't necessarily doubt it. If the sox and Dye decide they think he's suited to be a first baseman they can have him work on it all winter and spring and he seems like a good enough athlete to try it. The main thing is the sox are going to have a lot of money to spend and not to many holes to fill. I think the more likely situation is Pauly resigns and the sox make a huge run after Furcal, jmo. I think it's more likely we'd go after Alex Gonzalez before Rafael Furcal because he would command less on the FA market, and he's an Ozzie favorite.
  18. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) He'll be asking for Sexson money, which is $12M. You don't think the Mets would be willing to do that? They can overpay to get their players, but I don't think it's such a great idea for us. As far as who replaces him, that I'm not sure about, and it may just mean that we do indeed bring him back. I was just saying that he's not worth what he's asking for. Sexson's making $4 mill this season. That contract was heavily back loaded, because Seattle had some contracts coming off the books this season IIRC. Not doubting someone like the Mets could offer him $12 mill, but Konerko would probably give the Sox a hometown discount and probably stay for say 3 years $30 million.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) How about Brian Giles in right field and Dye at first? See I knew you were going to throw that up. Konerko's 29, and probably in and about his prime right now, you give him a 3 year deal, he'll perform fine in that contract throughout. Is Dye gonna be a 1B? Yeah he looked good in his 1 game there, but unless he spends say a lot of winter ball and spring training learning the position there full - time, it's probably not going to happen. Now with Giles. IIRC fathom said his bat speed was really starting to slow down this season (help me out here dude). He's 34, and probably going to want the security of a 3 or 4 year deal. My guess is he could go to Atlanta to join his brother, but I wouldn't rule out him staying in San Diego down there, he's probably one of, if not the "franchise" guy down there with Hoffman and Peavy. That said, I've got no problems giving him a 2 year deal. He has a 1.066 OPS away from PETCO this season, and a 49/16 BB/K ratio (that's insane). And he crushes righties. But will it happen? Unfortunately I doubt it.
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Comrie will be a great fit there, but that's just about all they have. Hull, meh. He'll do "ok"... but his success depends if they really do open up the game. He's always been a damn good cherry picker. Morris is an enigma. But he's not the quality that most other teams have in their division, forget the conference. I know Phoenix's organization well. Gretzky has nothing to prove and his legacy goes no-where but down unless they win it all, right away, and unless something really weird happens, they're not going to. Phoenix is one of the worst run teams in the league, and that will translate downstairs on the ice. From what I've read since they're probably going to miss out on re-signing Burke, they're becoming more interested in Thibault. But what problems do Phoenix have in the organization Kap? Do they just have bad owners e.g the Orioles with Peter Angelos?
  21. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) Whatever. Konerko is the definition of a one dimensional ball player, one that couldn't even crack MLB's top 30 in OPS in his career year. And it would be a good idea to pay him $12 M per? f*** that. I doubt he'll get $12M (unless some GM or owner in insane). But let's have a look at the other 1st baseman in OPS. You've got the likes of Lee, Pujols, Delgado, Sexson, Sweeney, Helton and Teixeira in front of him. Konerko's on a hot streak right now, and is tied for 3rd for all 1st baseman with 27 HR's, and 3rd for walks (something that we really lack) with 57, and there's not a great deal of difference b/w his stats home and away this season. My guess is he'll finish in the top 30 in OPS by the end of the season. Ok so if Konerko goes who replaces him? Can you handle Ross Gload and someone like Casey Rogowski splitting the duties at 1B next season? EDIT: Getting forgetful with HR's and STOOPID ESPN.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) I'm hoping not because him trying to be a HR hitter cost him last year. 2004: 12 HR, .244 AVG, 3.13 OBP, .677 OPS - 70 Steals All Season 2005: 0 HR, .285 AVG, .352 OBP, .695 OPS - 54 Steals Through 94 GP You forgot another important stat; 04 - G/F = 1.46 05 - G/F = 1.96 But forgot the homers question, nobody cares about that. The all important question is, is he going to he hit for a most important stat, the triple?
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) 0 makes him tied with everybody's favorite speedster Scotty Pods in triples. It's White Sox Baseball. We've just got to deal with it right? It's funny really that we've had people b**** about the triple stat, because frankly we don't play in a park that allows you hit many damn triples at all, because it's too small.
