Chicago Blackhawks Offseason Bonanza Thread

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Dabbs, I would think Roots is going to be a LW, but will be able to move into the C spot when needed. The Hawks need a C. And that's going to be a big problem because well there's not many at all out there now. Has Roenick to LA been 100% confirmed yet, because it's been mentioned on Rotoworld but doesn't look to be official, maybe the Hawks can sneak in at the last minute. Besides him there's injury prone (concussion) Jason Allison and not much else off the top of my head especially with Modano off the market now. -

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) I know you said Tony and Keith, but I'm here first, he's a winger from now on. He may center some ST and maybe fill in a game or so but for the most part he'lll be a wing. Ok thanks Tom, I wan't completely 100% sure, since I didn't really pay that much attention as to do what he was during the lockout etc, but he should probably be on the 1st line, with Calder or Bell and a good center, leaving Daze, Arny and the other out of B and C on the 2nd line. -

So Keith or Tony, fill me in here, is Ruutu currently slated to start the year at center or as a LW? Because here's some lineup scenarios at the moment with the top 6 forwards. Either way, Arny shouldn't start the year as the #1 center. 1 - Daze - Ruutu - Bell 2 - Calder - Arnason - ??? 1 - Ruutu - ??? - Calder 2 - Daze - Arnason - Bell Oh and the Modano deal includes a No - Trade Clause. That maybe could have been the holdup, besides the extra money his agent wanted. -
Charlotte lost 7-2 to Columbus. Ulacia with a bad start, Anderson 0 for 4, Borch didn't play, Harris 1 for 3 with a walk leading off, and Gload 2 for 4 in RF. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...colaaa_chraaa_1 B-Ham won 8-6. The Haegermeister picked up the win giving up 3ER in 6IP. Reynoso gave up 3ER in 1.1IP, ERA up to 4.53 now. Chris Young 1 for 3 with 2 walks. Fields 1 for 2 with 2 walks. Sweeney 1 for 5. Rogo 3 for 5 with a double. Owens 2 for 4 with a walk. Andy Gonzalez homered. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...msbaax_biraax_1 Winston - Salem won 4 -2. Ray Liotta started, 6.2 IP, only 1 ER, but 9H, 1BB and 2 K's. Valdio and Schnur 1 for 4, Nanita 1 for 3 with a walk, Molina 3 for 4 with a homer. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...wswafx_salafx_1 Kanny got shutout 3-0. Thomas Brice is back at 1B, looks like the pitching experiment was brief to say the least. Getz 0 for 4, Lucy 0 for 4, while Torres gave up 1ER in 5IP with 6 K's, a good outing. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...kanafx_lexafx_1 Bristol lost 13-4. Cunningham 2 for 5, Sanchez 0 for 4, and Rice with the pitching line of the day. 0.1IP, 4BB's, 1K, and 8ER. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...jcyrok_brirok_1 Great Falls losing 7-4 in the bottom of the 9th.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) Men on, less than 2 outs, shorten the swing up a bit and make contact. If you put the ball in play sometimes the ball can fall. And sometimes it can go into a double play............

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Yep, looks like the Hawks got played here. Thought they we're gonna land Modano and let some good players go by. And they need to rebound, with the big guns in Forsberg and Naslund in the forwards off the market. Not many #1 centers left at all on the top of my head, Jason Allison's one when healthy, but he's probably going to ink in Toronto. -

Hawks really need to get out there and get a top 6 forward. It won't be Kovalev which will please a lot of you, he re-upped with Montreal. The market's thinning up. -
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 12:04 AM) I love Posey. He is perhaps the most unsung mid-range defender in the entire NBA. It's kind of easy not to know about him...he played for f***ing Memphis. PG: Jason Williams SG: Dwyane Wade/Damon Jones SF: James Posey PF: Antoine Walker/Udonis Haslem C: Shaquille O'Neal/Alonzo Mourning They have to sign Haslem and Mourning, however. If they do that, they'll actually have depth this year, which is one of the major weaknesses of last year's team. I dunno what's going on with negotiations, I haven't paid much attention. Like a lot of y'all, I can't stand Antoine Walker. Him and White Chocolate are highly-skilled, incredibly stupid players. We'll see how things work out. I'll tell you right now that Posey is the gem. He is easily the most valuable piece (in my basketball world) involved in this trade. Haslem re-signed with the Heat on a 5 year $30M deal IIRC. You're right on Posey though, he was a stud 2 seasons ago for the Grizzlies.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) I picked him up on my soxtalk fantasy squad after his July 7 Philadelphia start. All that he's done since then: 3 Wins 25 IP 1 ER I needed another killer SP to go along with Pedro Martinez and Chris Carpenter. I hope that he keeps this up. Same here in SoxTalk League 1. The Pirates really have the making of a good stud young rotation next season if things play out. They really need another power hitter besides Jason Bay though, big time.

Ok I'm expecting news soon, the Aucoin signing went down about a hour from now, yesterday. Looks like the Bulin Wall is staying with the Lightning or headed our way; Jason Allison another #1 center is expected to sign with the Maple Leafs today. Chris Pronger got traded to Edmonton for Eric Brewer and 2 good prospects, very good deal for the Blues. Pronger then got re-signed to a 5 year $30M deal. Looks like Modano to re-sign with the Stars later today; -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) Wait I thought everyone said throw him under the bus and/or trade him??? :headshake He is 21 years old. People need to learn the Jon Garland lesson, that some pitchers just take time. Brandon might not *get* it for years, but when he does, he is going to be special. And if we have dealt him, we will regret it, there is no doubt in my mind of that. But B-Mac Sucks!!!! He can't throw his change!!! He gives up too many homers!!!!!! Sound familiar? Oh yeah, time to change the sig.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) Why would Memphis want Eddie Jones? Jerry West fav, plus doesn't his contract finish in about 2 years?

We need a RW more than a LW don't we? Selanne or Kovalev would be good fits. -

I wonder what we'll get back for T-Bo if we do trade him, maybe a 2nd rounder? That said, if the Hawks can get The Bulin Wall they gotta do it. They do need to sign some top 6 forwards still though. -
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Chris benson is an idiot if he wanted any chance to start then he had to sign already. Chris Berman?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Michael Clayton? Roy Williams? Lee Evans? Anquan Boldin? All were great rookie players. And did you watch the draft??? Mel Kiper was gushing over Bradley. Grossman, if able to stay healthy, will be a top QB in his career. He has shown the ability. The difference with those 4 is that the majority of those were top 1st rounders, except for Boldin. And I wouldn't take much stock into Kiper's opinion, he is after all Mel Kiper Jr. I know Bears fans think Grossman is going to be the messiah, but I don't see that, at least not this season. He's only in his 3rd year, and just needs to get out onto the football field and get comfortable. It's too early to expect him to lead this franchise into the playoffs. And the Bears have gotta protect him as well, which they're not great at doing.

QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) We should do 3 things, best of 3 gets a sig. -Julius Jones rushing yards>Thomas Jones rushing yards+500 -Bradley doesn't catch 25 balls -Need one more. Ok Dallas has a better record than Chicago this season.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) IMO, Brunette is the only one that I think would fit in with the hawks. The rest are either too old or too big of pussies to play for Yawns. Also, I dont think you meant to lump Holik in with #1 centerman... I think Holik's gonna suprise a lot of people, especially if he's on a line with Kovalchuk and Heatley. 2 years ago when he was the Devils everyone wanted him, but the Rangers, well they're the Rangers. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) Jason Williams on Miami will either lead that team to a championship this season, or lead them to the dumpster with team discord. I'm gonna go with the latter.
-
QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) I wish we could make some kinda bet RE: Bradley, cuz I think he is going to suprise. If you think of anything lemme know. How about say Julius Jones has 500 more yards rushing than his brother PLUS Bradley doesn't catch more than 25 passes for a CRAZY sig.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Don't be surprised if he does. He is an amazing athlete and many expert from the NFL are very high on him. He can run fast and he can jump high. I believe he got banged up in training camp last night though. He tweaked his knee going up for a bomb. I do hear Chad Hutshinson is ripping the s*** out of the defense. Which is bad news in itself...for the Bears. The fact is, how many rookie WR's over the past few seasons have made an instant impact? Reggie Williams didn't. Michael Jenkins didn't. Who are the expects who are high on Bradley FWIW? Because in almost every draft review I've read, they've stated that Bradley was a reach. And Rex Grossman will be learning his 3rd new offense in 3 years, plus he's only been in what 6 games? All in all, it doesn't equal good for the Bears passing attack, although surely it can't be as bad as last season, I'll give you that. And Chad Hutchison and good don't belong in the same sentence. He makes Drew Bledsoe look quick in the pocket.
-
Ahh I knew my comment would stir up the Bears fans. The fact is Gage and Wade don't have many catches combined in their career, and it's a bit much to expect one of them to automatically step up and be the 2nd man. That said, Gage looks the one to step up if any. And SoxFan, no I don't think Bradley will suprise many. He was a reach in the 2nd round, and he's unlikely to be higher than the 4th receiver this season. That equals zero impact in an offense that is likely to be built around a power running game.
