  1. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) the mod of this fourm is getting a little all mighty its a bit frustrating, isnt it There is no mod for this forum.
  2. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) I wonder how the possible acquisition would affect Konerko. He would quickly realize this is his last year as a White Sox. I wouldn't call that cut and dry, even if Huff's acquired.
  3. There's hope for Kris just yet, he needs to pitch like this for the rest of the season however........
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) We go from trying to get Tony G and losing out on that, to possibly getting Macowiak, and now we have Blum. Whatever, as long as Ozuna is not playing 3rd anymore. C'mon, Blum's got 13 doubles and 1 TRIPLE!!!!!! That's a sure fire winner. His numbers will rise from playing at the Cell from PETCO though.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:29 PM) Thats not how to judge this trade. I think some people might give two thoughts of a steaming pile of dog s*** over willie harris. Everyone agrees that Harris is a goner. But is this the best utility guy move KW could pull off? Who would you have preferred? Derek Jeter?
  6. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) Apparently, the Red Sox are working on a deal to get him. They are willing to give up their C prospect, Kelly Shoppach for him which would work perfectly for the Mariners. Uhhh wasn't Shoppach traded to Colorado along with Adam Stern for Larry Bigbie?
  7. Any chance of a trade up or trade down?
  8. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 06:39 AM) 1 and 5 signed no excuse for Benson/Agent anymore That depends on the offer / signing bonus Jerry Angelo is offering.

    Adam Dunn

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) I know he's been discussed before. And I have no rumors to report. But I look out there at the prospect of a Frankless team in the playoffs with no one in the lineup who will scare anyone and wonder what deal could get done. Adam Dunn. That's the name that jumps out at me. I bet he would be available for less than what Aubrey Huff will fetch. Yet Dunn is someone you can build upon. He's 25. He'd be perfect at DH. He's a LH bat like we haven't had in a long time. Now the rumor board says Cincy wants a #3 pitcher for him. Of course I wouldn't give up Jon Garland for him, and I don't think Cincy would accept either of our Cuban pitchers. But they aren't going any where this year. So why wouldn't they accept a combination of very solid minor league pitchers? Brandon McCarthy and Tracey, or McCarthy and 2-3 B-list pitchers? Dunn strikes out a lot, and doesn't hit for a high average. But his OBP is close to .400, so he isn't making that many outs. He would look very good in the middle of our lineup. It's going to cost a lot more than Brandon McCarthy and Sean Tracey for Adam Dunn.
  10. Urbina has sucked at Citizens, given up the long ball, he won't be an effective closer there. Can't see Ed Wade doing this.
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) First off, it wouldn't cost as much as you guys think considering we'd be taking on his contract. I don't know why people don't grasp that concept. Secondly, I didn't know it was a rule that Manny would have to play OF when there is a DH spot available. At last, Kenny wouldn't inquire if it wasn't possible. It's too close to the deadline to inquire about things that are very close to impossible. 1 - Are the Sox going to take on a contract on that size right now? 2 - Would Manny agree to be a DH? 3 - Why would Boston trade him to what looks to be their main rival for a world series spot in the AL?
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) Adam Dunn being traded to the Twins would be the worst thing ever. Kyle Lohse, Scott Baker and Lew Ford, would be a package they'd think about for Adam Dunn. Doubt they'd accept though.
  13. Thomas Brice. And I'd trade Anderson before I'd trade Sweeney.
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) Liotta will be slipped into a sort of 6-man rotation, as the Sox want to make sure Broadway is not overworked with his innings between TCU and the 'Hog That's a good idea, glad to see they made room for a spot for Ray, he deserves it.
  15. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) haha well.....2 answers. 1.) is there is a diminished return in which you spend so little, that the quality of product decreases so much, that eventually your business doesnt become profitiabe because your product stinks so much it doesnt make any money. 2.) ever look at the drays roster. i believe 2 years ago they ahd 3 players making over league minimum. that was it 1 - Well the D-Rays owners would still be making a substantial profit from the Revenue Sharing that goes on in effect. Just saying that if Huff is traded, D-Rays fans might just think that's the final straw, and just not bother anymore. 2 - Right now making over the league minimum are; Carl Crawford Eduardo Perez Danys Baez Aubrey Huff Travis Lee Alex Gonzalez Julio Lugo Toby Hall Josh Phelps Jesus Colome Travis Harper Trever Miller Dewon Brazelton
  16. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:40 AM) ok steff, ill explain this to you slowly. i can run a lemonade stand. i buy lemons for 7.50 and make a profit of 20 dollars on my lemonade. but someone comes along and says hey, your lemons are really good, ill trade you my 30 cent lemons, which may taste slightly worse than your 7.50 lemons, and all you have to do is give me your 7.50 lemons. i make the trade, and i use 30 cent lemons. fewer people buy my lemonade because it tastes worse, but i spend less, so my profit may increase to 21 dollars. now the trade for my lemons makes sense, not because i want my lemonade to taste good, but because i want my money. the devil rays are running a business, not a baseball team. and its simply dumb to sit tehre and say that doing nothing and sitting back with your feet up is teh best way to run a business Well wouldn't you trade every player who makes over the minimum salary for prospects then?
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) I don't care if Brandon ended up pitching for the Cubs, I'd still root for him. That is how good of a kid Brandon McCarthy is IMO. If we trade him, I guarentee we will regret it. It might take Brandon a couple of years to grow into the majors, ala Jon Garland, but he has the stuff to be a succesful major league pitcher. I know that some of you guys know everything about baeball and all, but no offense I'll take the word of the GMs and scouts who have raved about this kid, over anyone. Of course to some, if it's not instant success, it's just not good enough.
  18. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) ok 1.) i agree on keeping salary down. 2.) i disagree taht attendance does not matter. it does matter, becuase it will bring them more money. if they can raise attendence by not spending more on salaries of players then WHY NOT DO IT?????!?!?! Is an increase in payroll going to be greater than an increase in the money that would make from an attendance increase though? This is why I'm saying they may just hang onto Huff. He's a sure commodity, you trade him for prospects, and want to use some payroll room, are they going to sign anyone who was better than Huff in the 1st place?
  19. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) Anyone know the contract status of Huff? 4.75M in 2005, and 7.5M in 2006
  20. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) either Tracey or McCarthy, not both. I doubt they'd be included in the same deal anyway, I'm just curious if you rate Tracey higher than others (although I know Jason really likes him).
  21. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:17 AM) wow, some people just dont get it, of course they care. if the team does better, they make more money. but the key here is that they dont want to spend money. youre right, they dont care if the team loses 100 as long as they get their money. BUT if the team can win 80 games, and ownership spends the same....lamarr and co. will make more money. so to say that they dont care at all if the team wins or not, but claim that they care about their money is complete ignorance How is that team going to win 80 games anyway if major free agents don't want to come down and play in Tampa Bay?
