Of course the fact that Konerko only has 15 doubles and 0, that's right, count em 0 triples, is going to negatively impact him to "some". He's no Lyle Overbay right? Put simply guys with OPS's of .874 (which is better than the average of his past 3 years of .827) don't grow on trees.

QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Yea, Comrie, Hull, and Morris aren't stars... Comrie - He's still very small, and only had 24 points in 51 games in his last season with the Yotes. Let's see how he does in a full season under Gretsky before anyone calls him a star. Hull - How much does he have left in the tank? Can he keep putting up 60+ point seasons? We'll see. Morris - One of the best young defenseman in the league no doubt, but Phoenix will be the 3rd team he's been on in his NHL career. Will be great on their PP unit however.

Had splits of .315/.388/.500 in July and splits of .300/.417/.750 (3HR in 20AB) so far this month. Is finally hitting over .200 against lefties, but still has an OPS of just under .800 against them. His BA/RISP has also increased to .250 now which is 11th for qualified AL 1B out of 15 (Justin Morneau is last with .226 BTW). He'll get $10M from somebody this off-season, is that going to be us though? Teams that I can see making a run at Paulie are of course the Yankees, Mets, Blue Jays and Giants.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) Generally speaking, and of course there are exceptions, great players don't make great coaches. Not exactly sure why that is, maybe they don't have as much patience with "lesser" players, or maybe they didn't need as much teaching so they don't know how to teach? I wish Wayne well, he seems to really care about the well-being of the league and the Coyotes. With that new arena in Glendale and with everything that's happened with hockey over the past year, this is a move probably moreso for the future of hockey in Phoenix and to get people back talking about hockey again I suppose. But like kap said, I think a lot of people are overrating Phoenix. They don't have a star player, and they're top few lines aren't going to really worry many teams.

The Sox are on a 2 game winning streak as they travel to New York. El Duque takes on Mike Mussina in what should be a great game. Mussina only has a 3.03 ERA at home, so the Sox need to make the most of every oppurtunity against him, while the likes of Jason Giambi have just been on fire lately. Let's go SOX!!!

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Sanchez is practically Chris Young II. He doesn't walk as much, but from what we've seen so far he's a power hitting CF with a low average, good speed, and a lot of K's. Young, when 18 and in his first pro season, hit .217/.308/.380. with 13 doubles, 1 triple, 5 HR, and 7/15 in stolen base attempts in 184 at-bats. Sanchez is off to a better start in terms of average, but has almost the exactly same amount of extra base hits with a similar amount of ABs. Sanchez in 168 ABs has 13 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 HRs. Sanchez 12/12 in steals is definitely very impressive and speed looks like a more important factor for him than Young. The biggest difference is that Young walks more, but he has drawn more walks as he has progressed through the minors as do most players. It will be interesting to see how he develops. Sanchez is definitely going to be one to watch over the next few seasons. It'll be interesting to see if he increase his average up to the .300 level, or whether it stays around the .260/.270 mark, or if he can increase his walk totals to the level of Chris Young.

They should leave Sanchez in the #3 spot down in Bristol for a while. He's had some of his best games there, rather than the #2 and #6 hole. Still no Anderson, Borch didn't exactly have a great game either. Good to see Tracey pick up a win though, he's been sturggling a little lately.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) I' not sure that Pittsburgh has a lot of room left. But how about that line of Crosby, Mario, and Ziggy on a power play with Gonchar on the point? Holy s***! And don't forget that they got Mark Recchi from Philly before the lockout. They are becoming studs, FAST. They will be a top 5 team in the east if they stay away from the injuries as it stands eight now. You just hope for the team's sake the people in Pittsburgh show up to games, and they get that arena situation sorted out sooner rather than later. And I would like Kris Beech on this team no doubt about it. But with the likes of Colin Fraser etc. already scrapping it out for a 3rd/4th line place, I doubt that will happen. He does deserve an oppurtunity though. -
Since Aboz got to go for his streak, I'm going for mine (and will do so until they lose). Jon Garland takes on Jeff Harris who's making his 1st ever major league start. The Sox need to get on this guy and take the series.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) http://arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/NASApp...t=.jsp&c_id=ari Tony Clark gets extension D-Backs ink first baseman to two more seasons Conor Jackson anyone? He's a better prospect than Brian Anderson is, and he could probably be had for a straight up trade. Age Lvl AB .AVG/.OBP/.SLG BB K 2003 (Draft year) 21 A 257 .319/.410/.533 36 41 2004 22 A+ 258 .345/.438/.562 45 36 22 AA 226 .301/.367/.456 24 36 2005 23 AAA 333 .354/.457/.553 69 32 23 Maj 10 .300/.364/.400 1 0 Just for comparison's sake, here are Anderson's numbers Age Lvl AB .AVG/.OBP/.SLG BB K 2003 (Draft year) 21 Rk 49 .388/.492/.592 9 10 2004 22 A+ 254 .319/.394/.531 29 44 22 AA 185 .270/.346/.416 19 30 2005 23 AAA 395 .291/.359/.473 42 104 Forget Jackson, they'll trade Chad Tracy before Conor Jackson. And he's a perfect target as either a 1B, 3B and any OF spot. I would trade Anderson in a deal for Jackson though, but Arizona wants good young pitching not more good position prospects, they've got plenty of those already.

Just wait for the celebrations for the 5 years of spamming. Congrats on your anniversary though Mike.

That's 105 pitches now for Mark, I'd say he's done for the day.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) Wow, talk about 2 unlucky hits off Mark. Including one from the Aussie (who's more injury prone than Eric Lindros).

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) Again, I'm not being negative about our chances the rest of this season. I just go by the philosophy that anything can happen in sports. What's stopping a team from winning the rest of their games, or losing the rest of their games? You can throw as many statistics as you want at myself or someone else....but the game is played on the field, not in the papers. Hence why the Sox have been so good this season, and why if they slacked off, Ozzie would chew their asses out. Nobody predicited the Sox to be this good, not even the most optimistic Sox fan.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 09:24 AM) Rather Comrie, face off winner and a spectacular playmaker. That would be an amazing trade by Tallon but I think they just re-upped with a goalie, Boucher maybe? Yeah they re-signed Boucher to a 1 year deal. I don't think they'd trade Comrie for Thinabult. Isn't he not the best clubhouse guy, and didn't he have the real big holdout in Edmonton or am I thinking of someone else? -

Ok news from the Southtown and Rotoworld; Daily Southtown - Rotoworld - So it looks like Bell will be a center, and LaPointe on the 2nd wing. I can live with the former, but I don't like the latter. And I figure Los Angeles or Carolina will probably get Thibault, for about a 2nd or a 3rd and a 4th. Once again, there's no need to trade him within the division, unless that's a much better offer. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) Atlanta doesn't want him. Out of all the trading partners, I would agree with most's assessment on Vancouver. Maybe even LA. Everyone else seems to be pretty much set on what they have. Interesting thing is actually, I think Thibault goes somewhere that we would totally not expect, but with some cap room. Another one that comes to mind is Carolina, although they thing Gerber is the next big thing. :rolly The only 2 other teams that still have cap room that come to mind; Columbus - Doubtful since they wouldn't want to trade T-Bo within the division if possible. Buffalo - They probably want to give Miller and Noronen a shot. Vancouver's only got $22 mill locked up at the moment. Seems perfect for Thibault to make his way there for some picks. -
Former 'Hawk & current loudmouth Roenick now in LA

QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 07:23 AM) LA got him for nothing. The Hawks should've picked him up. I think he would have lit a fire under the asses of the rest of the team, and he should retire with the Indian Head on his sweater. Not for the current salary he's making. -
Mark Buerhle takes on Jamie Moyer tonight in the battle of the lefties. The Sox need to start getting their groove back at home, and this is the perfect game to do it. Moyer is 3-3 with a 6.79 ERA away from Safeco this year, so it's a great oppurtunity for the Sox to light him up, especially considering they hit lefties better.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) Gotta love that WHIP for Munoz tonight. :rolly You see he's always got something positive to say about him.

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) Montgomery 6 Barons 1 W- Shields L- Honel Kris had a hard time with command tonight mostly missing high. The Bullpen with 3 pitchers used was great BJ had a little struggle but at least it was because they were hitting him and not with command so he was able to get out of his own jams because he didn't walk people to go along with the hits. Pollok had a great 1-2-3 inning and so did Paulino Reynoso. Jerry Owens hit streak continues and Rogo was punishing the ball all night with a long homerun and one drilled to the wall in RF and one smoked off the pitcher. Andy Gonzalez had a pair of doubles and Ryan Sweeney had a 2 hit game and missed his first homer by 3 inches. Any change in Honel's velocity tonight Tom?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) vs Dallas: 4-1-0 2.00 GAA vs San Jose: 2-4-0 2.33 GAA 2.08 GAA for the playoffs with a .922 SV% They're not bad numbers, but it was always going to be a challenge to fit into Patrick Roy's shoes. Either way, Thibault when healthy and at his best is an upgrade over Aebischer. Colorado just have to decide whether they're in such a win now mentality, whether or not they'd want to trade for him. My guess would be no. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) I really don't think the Hawks need to try to find a true center on the FA market. Roots and Bell can both play center, obviously not like an elite center, but capible none the less. Dump T-bo and Daze and sign Ziggy!!! It depends if they want Ruutu or Bell to play as a center though. I'd actually have Ruutu as a 1st line center, with Arny on the 2nd line. Then you can have Daze and Calder as the LW's, with Bell and a FA like Ziggy on the RW's for the 1st 2 lines. Depends what they want to do though, but they have options nonetheless. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Tampa is happy with Grahme, who actually had better regular season stats then did Kahbibulin. Detroit has no room Atlanta - are you kidding me? Keri Lehtonin is the next Patrick Roy. Maybe not this year, but this kid is the real deal, mark my words Edmonton just signed their #1 from last year today Washington, maybe, but who do they have to offer in a trade? No one. Colorado still believes in Aubisheur (sp)... don't ask me why Pittsburgh - can't make it work... and besides they have Marc Andre Fleury - remember him? Thibault will get moved, IMO, but it will be interesting as to where. Good points there Kap. On Atlanta, yeah Lehtonin is going to be a stud, I was just thinking it may take him a year or 2 to get settled into the NHL, and if they want to win now trade for a Thibault and let Lehtonin settle in. Looking at it now, Vancouver seems like an ideal trading partner. Dan Cloutier has been under a lot of pressure there, and Thibault would be an upgrade.
