QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Agreed but you are talking about a HOF'er who is going to break Aaron/Bonds' record here. (Injuries not withstanding of course but typically pitchers have more concerns with injuries. Position players are much safer bets) And we would be set to contend next year too. And this team needs to take over the city from the Cubs. Look at what Steinbrenner gave up for Pay-Rod. Crede and B-Mac is NOT going to get it done. As much as we would like to acquire an A-Rod, our payroll is not able to handle the increase his contract would have, even if the Yankees pay what up to a half of the remaining deal (which they'd never do). If he's so good, why would the Yankees want to give him up? Why not ship out the dead wood instead?

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) YASNY What would you be willing to give up for a ARod? Would you be willing to give up Anderson, Crede and BMac? I would, in a heart beat. Prospects are just that....prospects. Don't question the impact good young players can have on a team though. Look at the Minnesota Twins. Jesse Crain, Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer would make what about $1million combined this season. If you can get good young players contributing at a good enough level on the MLB stage, then it gives you so much more payroll flexibility, so you're not locked into big contracts like the Yankees etc.

They can also buy out Wright's contract for $4 million if he spends something like an extra 21 days on the DL. They've got some wiggle room, and I can't see Ol' Steiny selling his prime stock.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) Thanks YASNY. I have been really thinking about this the past 3 days seeing the Yanks implode against the Brewers. Yes, Kenny should pick up the phone and ask. It cannot hurt can it? The one thing folks may not realize is that the Yankees plight is not just restricted ot this year. They are screwed even for next year and maybe even the year after. They have ridiculous $ invested in Giambi who no team will take. Same thing for Kevin Brown and Randy Johnson, both of who will only get worse and more injury prone after this year. They have absolutely no bull pen for next year, and they just cannot buy their way in anymore. They need young, cheap pitching badly and there is no way they get it except trading some stud this year. Mariano Rivera is the other chip they have and I have even thought about maybe the Sox calling for him. But if one out of Shingo or Viz settles in, with Hermy doing great, I rather have Alex than Rivera any day for this year and for years to come. Also, considering Toronto and Os have really good young pitching, they will be good next year and year after too. The Yanks have a battle on their hand despite this huge payroll. Brown is signed through this season only. They will buy Giambi's contract out, and reach some sort of deal.

When did George Steinbrenner ever think about saving money?

On Danks, there's an article here which requires registration, bugmenot won't do the trick, but this little snippet doesn't get my hopes up much; http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/registra....12b8390c4.html

If Danks gets signed (and I certainly hope that's the case), one of Anderson/Sweeney/Young/Owens could very well be moved at the deadline. Put one of em with Sean Tracey, and you could definitely get someone who'd make a big impact for us.

Now you have another Aussie to make fun of.

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) please do not get me started on damaso marte. he is the a-rod of relief pitchers. has great numbers every year, but he is complete crap when a game is on the line more often than not. i can give a crap when he fans the side against the royals in mid-july. i don't care how hard he throws. holds might be one of the most meaningless stats going. find his stats in one-run games and tied games and find his stats for when it comes to inherited runners scored. i bet you'll change your mind. and who takes his place? i'd take cotts over marte any day of the week. dl marte, call up mccarthy, and let him be the long man, just like buehrle was when he broke in. great, you got me started lol Didn't see B-Mac's performance in Charlotte tonight did you.

QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) Crede is so clutch. Anything else to complain about?

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Wow Colorado is really bad. Didn't they win 7 straight before this series, or did I hear the Rockies broadcast wrong on that yesterday?
-
Anybody for getting rid of Widger now? The guy can bunt, unlike SOME on our team.

Jermaine Dye or Richard Hidalgo? I'd know who'd I'd definitely want now.

QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) I thought I was the only one who noticed... Oh don't worry we've noticed.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Damnit, now we're up 5-4. What can we complain about now? The Rain.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) At what point do we start saying that we might have to acquire a SS? Uribe's offense has been worse than Crede's offense has been over the last month. 10 million over 3 years says otherwise. Uribe's a streaky hitter, just gotta take the good with the bad.

QUOTE(ReinsdorfSucks @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) you're pretty dense aren't ya? who said castilla? didn't see his name brought up. when you know what you're talking about then post. cause otherwise you look like a jackass. Somehow I don't think "others" feel that way. You wanted a major league third baseman, I gave you an option, not a good one at that. Who would YOU recommend then.

A J.T Snow / Ross Gload combo for 2006 is looking better by the day.

QUOTE(ReinsdorfSucks @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) i want kenny williams to make a move and get us someone. i don't even care if mccarthy gets traded. it's just mindboggling these line ups ozzie puts out there. and then tonight when someone asks why ozzie make the line up ozzie will b**** like a little girl. he'll get all upset. but just like any hypocrite he will say "i don't care what anyone says" i see his moves as our only obstacle in making a serious run at the series. Ok, lets trade B-Mac for Vinny Castilla then. At least "somebody" will be happy.
