Well some people can take Ozuna off their pedestal now.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 07:02 AM) where are all the mods to change the desription of this thread, damn!!! Here I am, the Knight in Shining Armour. 2334, please in the future post things that aren't related to the Sox directly, in the Around the Horn boards. I'm moving it there now.
-
In response to 2334, you're ALWAYS looking for ways to improve your team. The stats prove that Timo has indeed "sucked" this season, hence people are gonna criticize him when others have done so well.
-
Can someone please post our record in the final games of series we've played in so far this year, to put a little more "stock" in this Ozzie in the 3rd game thing.

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) I was wondering if anyboby was, Kris had good control and not just the walks but hitting his spots. Those Breaking balls he threw were old Kris Honel then come back and hit 90 on a Fastball which is the best I seen him this season. That's even better to hear Tom. Let's hope he can keep the velocity up on his fastball around that 90 MPH mark. This may be a turning point for him hopefully.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) You are watching the emergence of a set up man now, and it is due to Ozzies "terrible" bullpen management and willingness try guys in different roles. You may all praise him now. Who? Ozzie or Neal?
-
No-one's gonna comment on Honel's good outing? Sounded pretty good to me, especially if Reynoso gave up his runs. Let's hope he can come back the way Malone has this season so far.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 06:59 AM) That really sucks that he whooped ass aginst the Pistons. His value went up to the point where he may be raking in the dough, making it next to impossible for the Bulls to get him. Oh well, I hope that he goes to the Hawks. The Hawks really need to end up with a big this off-season. Trade up for Bogut, or sign Dalember or Curry to such a big deal that the Bulls or 76ers won't match. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) Look at the Sox of 2005 and 2004 and think about that question. You need more parts than 2 studs if you are going to win. You have to be deep. Unless you are the Yankees and Red Sox, it doesn't make sense to spend that much money on one or two great players, when you can get 5 good players for the same price. Teams are hurting themselves wasting so much money one so few players. I remember at the start of the season a lot of people were looking at our lineup and saying it was weaker because we didn't have Maggs and Carlos (who both make a combined approx $20 mill this season). That's what about b/w a 1/3 and 1/4 of our payroll in 2 players right there. For a team that doesn't have payroll of close to or above $100 million, it doesn't make sense to have that much money locked up in just 1 or 2 players. What happens if they get injured or if they slump? The Sox's offense may have struggled all year, but that's because a lot of players have struggled. At least now, it's a lot deeper, so we don't have the likes of Uribe hitting in the #2 hole like he did last season. Pods and Iguchi provide a great platform and they make what just over $3 million together? You don't have to spend heaps of money on Bora$$ clients to bring in talent, there's enough available elsewhere.

QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) IIRC Andruw Jones would be an example of someone who stayed with the club as opposed to your scenerio. And you look at Jones now and think "damn, he's probably overpaid". Well imagine what he could have gotten from another team under Bora$$. Jones chose to stay and play for a winner. Good for him.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) Too bad his clients are too dumb to see this. Those that think an agent has an obligation to the team to make certain the team doesn't do something stupid, do you also believe the team has an obligation to make certain the player doesn't do something stupid like sign for millions less than the player is worth? How many people here asked their employer, when an offer was made, if the company could gain market share by paying them less? How many would take a cut in pay to help their company gain market share? But money shouldn't be the ONLY factor in negotiations is what I'm trying to get at. Teams have budgets, Bora$$ has an idea that teams have a big revenue stream that they should be throwing at his clients. Sure you could be getting some extra money, but would you prefer to be happy and winning, or would you prefer to be miserable? Look at Alex Rodriguez. Perfect scenario.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) And you blame that on Boras? If they spent $40 million on a different agent's players, they would not have been handcuffed? The decision to pay that much for two players was flawed, regardless of who the agent is. But the thing is nowadays teams aren't going to be that stupid. Look at Colorado with Todd Helton. Bora$$ thinks it's ok for the a team to pay at least an extra half of what he would probably get with another agent. He FORCES his clients to go into the FA market, and things like loyalty, family and comfort etc. just don't come into play with his negotiations. If the Tampa Bay Devil Rays offered Mr. X $25 million over 2 years, while say the Yankees offered $17.5 million over 2 years (if he played for the Yankees originally, and enjoyed playing there), Bora$$ would advise his client to take the D-Rays offer, even if the teams sucks and has no chance of making the playoffs. Jeff Weaver and Stephen Drew did the right thing though, even though Bora$$ was desperate for them to stay in the draft, for an extra $2 million. That's how this guy works, plain and simple.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) Boras' clients are a virtual all-star team. The best players all eventually find him and he finds them. How much of a disadvantage is it to any team that will not deal with him? And yet only a handful of teams are willing to draft Bora$$ clients. Figures.

Not good, not good at all. At least we've got a capable backup in Willie Harris.

What isn't our seafood good enough? Just ask Jim.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Focking sounds like something you would say in front of your parents because you don't want to get in trouble for saying ''f***''. Unless you said it like "fook" to sound like a Pom...... but yes f***ing is the way to go.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) Not really, plenty of posters have been sticking up for him all season, just been plenty more hating on him... I have always been high on him though... Hmm hmm, I've been defending him ALL season long than you very much Mr. 101. I hereby declare myself the President then.

Any problems with how Ozzie handled the bullpen today?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) I've turned the corner and I'm loving this broadway selection. Plus change and curveball and he flat out hammers the zone with his fastball (inside and out) and its a pitch with good movement. He's gonna be a quick mover, although the Sox should be careful with his workload. He can fill out a bit as well like B-Mac so that fastball could yet have an a couple of extra MPH on it. With a plus curve, and an improving change, he could move, very very quickly through the system. We've got some real good SP prospects now though.

Did anyone else think Hunter just missed the plate?

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) WTF was that? Alex Cintron screwed up....... Twice. :headshake

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) I didn't, nor did I know that he was hitting so well. After that bomb, he is hitting .374 with 8 HR and 30 RBI. With 13 RBI's as a pinch hitter. The next best in the NL is Brad Hawpe with 6.
