  1. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) Exactly what is he useful for? Pitching away from the Cell and to righties I guess.
  2. Nothing on Shimizu yet, but I have found this guy who could be the next Hideki Matsui;
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) Ya, I read those. But his velocity is way down. Anyways, what does Shimizu throw? I hate to say it on Freddy, but maybe it could be a reoccurance of the arm / shoulder injury that he had late last season that affected him. I'll try to see what I can find on Shimizu's stuff. The Forums at Japanese Baseball are usually a good place to start.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) Very true.....but he's blown 2 straight 3-run leads... It happens. What if it happened to Mark Buerhle instead? Would the reaction be as great? Just some food for thought. Also see my post on the Freddy Garcia thread that Nuke started. I made a couple of points about Garcia's struggles, and what he needs to improve on.
  5. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) Bobby Valentine's Chiba Lotte Marinees are 28-11 and in first place. Naoyuki Shimizu, the Marines' ace, has been cozying up to agent Don Nomura and telling folks he'd like to join Tadahito Iguchi with the White Sox next year. Hard-throwing righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka of Seibu, scouted this week by Kevin Towers and Fred UhlmanJr. of the Padres will be the most sought-after Japanes import this winter. That is some good news. Hopefully we may be able to get him for a discount, like we did for Iguchi. But really for this to happen, we'll have to move one of our starters, most likely Contreras. And then B-Mac is going to have to wait for another season, unless the Sox decide to move him into long relief like Neal Cotts to give him experience at the major league level.
  6. Here's a picture of Shimizu's delivery;
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) Does he get run-support from his offense? Shoot, he's probably better than what Freddy has been doing this season. You wouldn't have been saying that about Freddy before his previous 2 outings.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) Beat you to it! Rand McNally slowed my post down.
  9. QUOTE(3E8 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) Shimizu currently has 2.72 ERA and is 4-2 in 7 games. Matsuzaka with 1.77 ERA and 3-4. And he lost 2 nights ago giving up 1 ER, 4 BB's and 7 hits over 8 innings. Certainly, signing Iguchi and Shingo has opened doors for us in Asia, and really is going to give us multiple options on the trade front too.
  10. Here's the guy's page of Japanese Baseball, 10-11 last season with a 3.40 ERA, 126/42 K/BB ratio. http://www.japanesebaseball.com/players/pl...p?PlayerID=1193
  11. If only it was Daisuke Matzusuka. I'll see what I can find out on this.
  12. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ May 15, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) i think the most shocking news about this is that there were As fans still around in the 8th inning let alone any inning the place always looks so empty Weren't they considering moving to San Jose? They've got new owners as well now right?
  13. Ok, well my problem is that most of the time when I try to watch a video from the internet whether it's a sporting game etc., it says it's opening, and then nothing loads and nothing happens. Is there a patch or something I could possibly download if anyone would know anything? Any help would be gladly appreciated.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ May 15, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) And no doubt they were looking at Corwin Malone's progress and the continuing development of Ryan Sweeney. Watch out folks, Sweeney is coming on fast ... Yes he is, and I hope they hang onto him. He could easily be in Charlotte by the end of the season. It's great to have 4 really good OF guys in Sweeny, Anderson, Owens and Young in AA or higher, showing they're not too far away.
  15. Here's one from the box, Scott Strickland from the Mets. He'll be a free agent today if he's not promoted from AAA. Even though he's a righty, he had a pretty good year in 2003, and fairly good lefty / righty splits. Some team will probably give him a chance before us though.
  16. I really had a good look at a lot of lefties stats so far this season, but in all of this, 3 things really have to be considered; 1 - He actually HAS to get lefties out. Some lefties do better against righties. 2 - The team he plays probably can't be in playoff contention otherwise he won't be traded. 3 - It takes 2 to make a deal. Just beacuse we may want a guy and we may be able to trade for him, we'll have to come up with a deal to satisfy the opposing teams needs as well.
  17. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 15, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) Can he take Cotts with him? And the 2 guys to come up are.................
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 15, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) Yeah, but Tiger can buy more expensive clothes The fact remains; Better clothes >>> Expensive Clothes Adam Scott >>> Tiger Woods
  19. A White Sox Series just isn't the same without a Nuke Game Thread.
  20. Ok I'm going to start a thread to put forward some names that we could target at the deadline. I don't think it's any secret we need a LHP who can actually get lefties out. Some names to consider; Mike Gonzalez - Pittsburgh John Grabow - Pittsburgh Casey Fossum - Tampa Bay Joey Eischen - Washington (currently on 60 day DL) Kent Mercker - Cincinatti Jorge De La Rosa - Milwaulkee Ricardo Rincon - Oakland Aaron Fultz - Philadelphia Ron Villone - Seattle John Foster - Atlanta
  21. I remember some experts calling this one of the worse trades if not the worse trade of the off-season.
  22. Ok my take on everything; 1 - Qwerty was right when he said expect a lot of threads of JC tomorrow if he doesn't perform. 2 - Sleepy came up with a very good point about us facing Baltimore. We haven't really faced too many "great" offenses thus far this season. 3 - The White Sox have an overall ERA of 3.13 in games thru 5/13/05. With all the threads about how bad some of the pitchers are, you'd think it was in the high 5's, 6's instead. 4 - The White Sox have a Defense Efficiency Ratio of .730, the MLB best. The league average is .697. 5 - Freddy Garcia is down on his K/9 this season from his career, 6.85 to 5.87. 6 - Garcia is really sucking against lefties so far this season. .299/.362/.470 splits compared to righty splits of .200/.244/.306. 7 - Garcia at home has an ERA of 5.68 with .308/.368/.510 splits compared to AWAY of 2.54 ERA with .204/.255/.286. It's almost getting to the stage where the Sox need to adjust their rotation as much as they can to get Freddy pitching more away games. 8 - Neal Cotts against righties, .053/.308/.053, really, really weird. All of his 7 walks still have come against righties, yet he pitches better against them. Cotts still hasn't had a BB in his last 4 outing too FWIW. 9 - Cotts also sucks at home, he has a 5.40 ERA there with .286/.545/.429 splits compared to away of 3.12 ERA with .161/.235/.226. 10 - Cotts and Hermanson are the only Sox pitchers who haven't given up a HR so far this year. 11 - Kevin Walker, get your ass back down to AAA. 12 - For all the reports of Vizcaino being a flyball pitcher, he has a G/F of 2.07, the highest of any Sox pitcher. That said, his lefty and home splits are absolutely terrible. 13 - The Sox pitchers who have better home stats compared to away stats so far this season are, Mark Buerhle (4-0 2.18 ERA), Jose Contreras (1-0, 1.82 ERA), Jon Garland (3-0, 1.50 ERA), Dustin Hermanson (.147/.147/.176 vs. .231/.310/.346), Orlando Hernandez (better ERA but worse splits at home from less innings), Damaso Marte (1-0, 0.00 ERA) and Cliff Politte (0-0, 0.00 ERA in 3.2 IP). Ozzie and KW need to recognize this, and have these pitchers pitching as much as possible at the Cell at this stage, especially bullpen wise. Politte needs to be given much more work, especially at home. 14 - Two guys who probably would be next in line for a bullpen callup, and their lefty stats from their stints last season (even though much shouldn't be taken into consideration). Bajenaru - .278/.333/.389 (much better compared to his righty splits) Munoz - Had an 3.97 ERA as a reliver with lefty splits of .320/.452/.360.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 15, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) I forgot to mention, Mora has been superb defensively tonight. Not that he's bad defensively, but I was really impressed... Baltimore really have an awesome infield right now. League best.
